A wonderful week of renewal!
Having been to this part of Maine it was no surprise that our location was quiet with a quality of peacefulness compared to crowded vacation spots. A wonderful area to be in and to take day trips to New Brunswick, Canada, Bar Harbor and explore and enjoy all of the little coastal towns close by. "Wreaths Across America" is a must see when staying in Harrington. Our home away from home was beautiful and had everything we needed to be comfortable. We enjoyed seeing the wild life on the property and awakening to beautiful sunrises over the water. Lin and John are wonderful hosts and always there when you have a question. Though we are home now we hold great memories of Harrington and the beautiful home we stayed in. This will be placed on our list of "let's go back again". Thank you Lin and John.
Slice of Secluded Serenity
When we were looking for a getaway to celebrate our first anniversary, we wanted a house with a peaceful view that's secluded but accessible to outdoor activities--Misty Tides checked all the boxes! Walking into the house, you really feel like you're at home in your own private hideaway nestled in a beautiful, thick forest + backed by a peaceful cove that is home to a host of wildlife. The house itself is well-appointed with everything you need for a stay. The large kitchen was perfect for cooking meals, the family room has a couch + two very comfortable chairs, + the dining table makes a great surface to play cards. The outdoor space is perfect for enjoying the outdoors + for watching the sunrise with a hot cup of coffee. A large deck overlooks the backyard (and cove) where there is a firepit for making s'mores or telling ghost stories. There's also a covered side porch that enables you to enjoy the pine-smelling air even if it's raining. We especially enjoyed sitting out on the back deck, watching the tides change (+/- 13 feet while we were there) + seeing all the various creatures that would visit during different hours of the day. In the morning, the deer, herons, squirrels, + woodpeckers were active; in the afternoon there were seagulls + rabbits; and at night our favorite guests would make an appearance: porcupines! There were 4 porcupines--3 adults + 1 juvenile--chomping on the clover in the backyard. One of the porcupines has taken up residence in one of the trees on the side yard + you would hear him (or her) feasting in the early evening. They were very docile, doing their own thing without paying any mind to our gawking. The juvenile porcupine is a bit more curious + would come right up to us, sniffing, to check us out before scurrying away back into the trees. Recent winters have caused erosion on the shoreline of the yard, preventing access to the cove, but the house is close to water activity offerings in Milbridge + Machias (Sunrise Canoe + Kayak offers awesome kayak rentals + tours of great sites), so if you want to be on the water there are opportunities to do so. The house is close to food + shopping in Ellsworth + sightseeing + hiking at Acadia NP, Great Wass Island (our favorite), Lubec + Campobello Island (Canada). It's a FANTASTIC location for enjoying all that DownEast has to offer. Overall, we loved the house! The owners are very communicative and willing to answer any Qs you may have. We hope to come back again soon!
Thank you for your nice review, we hope to have you back again! just one note to everyone, you can get down to the waterfront , but there is a bank and do so at your own risk, there is also a public access just a short walk down the road. For the most part most of the houses on these bays are for sitting by the water near the fire pit and deck, and enjoying the amazing views, peace, and tranquility
Rest, peace & tranquility
The house and property were absolutely beautiful. The house was very tastefully decorated with a “your home” atmosphere! It was very well equipped and comfortable. The property was centrally located between Canada & Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park & many other spectacular places to explore. Definitely a keeper as well as a highly recommended place.
Thanks much Rick! We really appreciate it, and hope you can come back again very soon! :) Lin and John
We had such a wonderful time here. Such a beautiful home and so peaceful and quiet. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home with us.... I hope we can come back!
BEAUTIFUL SECLUDED VACATION HOME
It was a pleasure working with Lin in securing their home for a week's vacation. It was a quiet, peaceful, secluded vacation. The house and grounds are stunning. If you wake up early you may find a beautiful sunrise over the bay. We traveled nearly every day visiting quaint shops, farmer's markets, and nearby attractions. "Lunch on the Wharf" had the best lobstah rolls! The Machias Blueberry Festival was our last stop before heading west to Michigan. If you're looking for an out-of-the-way, away from the congestion of tourists getaway, this is definitely the right place for you! Thank you Lin and John!
The peace and quiet of this secluded and very comfortable place was amazing. It felt like we were staying in a nature preserve! We saw deer, fox, rabbits, and birds galore and the birds songs and delicious smell of the fir was something i wish i could take home! We enjoyed going to the local farmers' markets and cooking in the well stocked kitchen. The Thursday morning farmer's market in Machias was our favorite. An added bonus of Misty Tides was that early in the month we ate wild strawberries and by mid-month were collecting wild blueberries right on the property! Having morning coffee on the porch and evening drinks on the deck was highlite too! Thank you Lin and John for sharing your beautiful home!!! It was a wonderful vacation and I highly recommend to others!!!
Remote, Secluded and Quiet, 11 Acres of Land on a Beautiful Bay, and breathtakingly Beautiful location. Away from it all, yet within 15 minutes -an hour of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Schoodic Cliffs, and Cadillac Mountain, Roques Bluff Beach, Bangor, the Canadian border, and all the tourism. Great Hunting, Fishing, both salt water (bluefish, cod, haddock, mackeral) and Fresh water in local lakes and streams for Bass, Trout and Salmon. Wild Blueberry picking seasonally all over the property. Amazing Hiking and Mountain Biking (bring your own bikes). Bring your bike on the Winter Haven Ferry to Bar Harbor for a day trip! Gorgeous views of the Bay, short distance to Ocean Beaches. Go Clamming right out in front of the house on low tide. Buy Lobster from the local fisherman, dig up some clams out front, and have a clambake by the water. Don't forget to have the best Wild blueberry pancakes you ever had at the Millbrook Diner! A true gem, with no neighbors anywhere in sight! Start your day off right with a cup of coffee on the back porch overlooking the bay, everything will seem just fine after that!!! No Hunting on the property allowed, but plenty of hunting around the area.
