About Robert Woodling

Avid lover of the hardwood ecological environment. 2007 Indiana Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year. 2009 North Central Regional Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year. Retired from Indiana University in 2010. I play in the woods, that's what I do.

Robert Woodling purchased this house in 2009

Why Robert Woodling chose Unionville

We purchased this property as the last parcel of the original farm dating back to the 1860s. It is now part of our 103 acre managed forest. Enjoy your stay with access to the forested trails, wildlife ponds, birdwatching observation towers and still be within easy driving distance of all Brown and Monroe counties have to offer.

What makes this house unique

Enjoy all that nature and the surrounding communities have to offer during the day and a relaxing hot tub in the evening followed up by a movie on the large screen TV, listen to your favorite music, or just visit with family and friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have stayed in a number of cabin rentals and have had a wide range of experiences. While all of them were good, some stand out as better than others. The difference is the little things. This property is obviously well maintained and the few 'small things' in the kitchen make a big difference in comfort and experience. Thank you so much for taking the time to put that effort into your property and our experience. My wife and I do not get much time to be away from the 'real world' so this really means a lot to us. It may be a business for you, but for us it is freedom, nature and just being able to be with each other. My only suggestion would be some trail markers. Your property brought us an experience that we will cherish for years. Thank-you!

P.S. This place is a bird lovers paradise! Loved it! And thanks for the wild flower bouquet!! :-))

Family Reunion at Elm House

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time renting a house and boy did we hit the jackpot! There was plenty of room to accommodate our family members that came from north & south Indiana and Michigan. Elm House was very clean and inviting. Because of the rain and lightening storms we were disappointed that we could not enjoy the hiking trails and the hot tub. The weather got better just in time for our family barbecue. Everyone was amazed at how nice Elm House was. If your looking for a very nice place to stay out in the beautiful country, Elm House is a must. Thank you Robert Woodling for making your home a wonderful place to stay.

Owner's Response: Thank-you for the kind words. I am glad you were able to enjoy your family and get in a BBQ in spite of the crazy weather. I really appreciate the care you took of the property and the wonderful condition you left it in. Hope to see you and your family again in the near future.

Fantastic setting for a small group for some peace and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

Robert (owner) was quick to communicate. Place was isolated with wilderness all around. You could hear lots of wildlife at night. Decks and yard added lots of space for our group to congregate for some fun times.

Beautiful & tranquil setting made for a peaceful stay

  • 4 of 5

The host was very responsive and easy to deal with. The hot tub was the best I've ever encountered in a rental. Many jets with great placement! The kitchen was also very well

equipped and had everything you might want/need. It was unseasonably hot while we were there and the air conditioning worked wonderfully. The wi-fi connection was not good and very spotty at best, but it is out in the country. Some end tables in the living room would be appreciated! All in all a very nice stay.

The Elm House near Brown County State Park Is A Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

The Elm House was simply perfect for our weekend getaway to Brown County! We found the lights on for us , as Robert had told us they would be since we arrived after dark,, and we were in love immediately with the place. The house is so clean and we were all impressed with how stocked it was with towels, extra blankets, tissue, etc. and I have to add it wasn't the cheap brands you find in most places that you can barely tolerate. It is good stuff! There is ample room and having the 2 bathrooms makes it so convenient for getting everyone showered and out the door for all the activities. The decks are nice and the area with the woods behind is beautiful. We enjoyed the fire pit and were grateful for the wood already chopped for our use. The hot tub is a great added luxury.

There are boxes of great movies and plenty of games. We enjoyed "Jurassic Park". The sound system is great and the dinosaurs were so real that my Granddaughters slept with me

downstairs that night! Ha! I could go on and on . We have stayed at the Family cabins at Brown County State Park and they are nice but The Elm House wins hands down for me. I only wish we had had more time. We were only 23 minutes from Brown County State Park so we got to take the girls horseback riding like we do every year. We also spent some time shopping in the numerous shops in Nashville.

Lastly the instruction manual is wonderful. It is very thorough on everything. Thank you, Robert, for allowing us to stay at your beautiful Elm House.
