About Steve Host
Susan and Steve Host are small business owners in Richmond, Texas.
Steve Host purchased this Estate in 2002
Why Steve Host chose Leakey
Susan and Steve both vacationed at Garner State Park growing up, and always dreamed of having their own place. When they saw the property, they fell in love with it. They built all the structures on the property, and cleared the land. They have created a vacation place for their families and hope you enjoy it as much as they do.
What makes this Estate unique
Steve and Susan hand picked where to place the cabins for optimal views as well as to take advantage of the breezes that blow through the porches year round. They have taken a great amount of time, energy and care to make the property a wonderful vacation destination for you and your family.

Perfect for our group!
I rented this property for our annual river trip and it fit our needs perfectly!! All of our guests were very impressed with the accommodations and there was plenty of space for our large group. We floated out of Concan but this location didn't have long of a drive at all! A few things to know before renting the property - if you have Verizon you will not have any cell service (not even in town), AT&T had spotty service. There isn't wifi at the house either so make use of the few places in town with free wifi if you need reliable service. Although, you should take advantage of being disconnected and be totally present with the people you're traveling with. Lastly, the address listed is incorrect so you need to contact Steve prior to arriving for correct directions on accessing the property. He's super nice and very responsive. All in all, highly recommend this location. If we come back to the area with the same size group, I would definitely stay here again. Book this place - you won't regret it!!!
Absolutely wonderful, so peaceful with an amazing view.
We booked our stay here for my daughters birthday with family & friends and it was wonderful. So much to do on site, the kids played volleyball, basketball & also sat on the nice rocking chairs on the wrap around porch and enjoyed the view. The owner Steve was very informative on how to get there as it can be tricky to find but we found it & it was totally worth it. The Frio River is a short drive from the cabin. Everyone enjoyed the stay here & look forward to staying again in the future. Thank you Steve & Susan for allowing us to stay at your beautiful property.
My wife, daughter and I met two other families there that had four other children. All children ranged from 5-9 years old and each one of them had a great time. Waking up early in the morning to a fresh cup of joe, while taking in the deer feeding near by on the wrapped around porch, surrounded by mountains captivated my wife and I. The kids stay busy all day, as there is an unlimited amount of activities for them to get into. I would highly recommend this property if your looking to enjoy a nature filled and relaxing weekend.
We had an amazing time! Loved the beautiful scenery and it was so peaceful. The kids had a blast. We brought our Gator which was a great idea that way we could go from house to house especially at night when it got dark. None of us really got internet service but it was actually a good thing because we all had great family time. Thanks again Steve we will be back!
Great time and great property
The property was great and very beautiful. My family loved it. Although there was one issue, the owner quickly called his grounds keeper and solved the issue. The grounds keeper was also very professional and was available for any thing needed all week.
Outstanding houses and very secluded so that our family could enjoy ourselves without the hassel of a bunch of others vacationing. It is only a short drive to the river and only 5 minutes to town in case you need anything. Overall if the same amount of our family go on vacation again next week, we will be booking this same property. Thank you Host family for allowing us to rent.
Overall nice, A/C issues, not close to the river
The place is nice and clean, the owner was very responsive the week before the trip.
Biggest upsides: Neat place nestled in trees between large rolling texas hills. The trees help shield a bit of the raging heat. The porch is big and has great rocking chairs and the ceiling fans make it an ideal place to hang out. Free firewood and huge firepits are another great place to visit. The other facilities are perfect for the kids that we brought between 6-13 years of age -- they played tennis, basketball, pingpong, pool.
Here are the biggest downsides: Directions to arrive are difficult. Google/Maps can't do it alone and it feels like you are trespassing.
There is little to no phone access and certainly no internet. When people are lost or coordinating, this is hard. I highly recommend bringing walkie talkies. The two buildings are a few hundred meters away, so this can make trips back and forth a little onerous.
I was a little disappointed about the lack of water access for play. I had kind of hoped it was a nice little creek, but when we went it was stagnant. There is a cute little water-hole in Leakey that we went to and Garner/tubing is probably 10 minutes away once you get to the main road.
We had to reach out and get the A/C fixed because 2 of the rooms were over 80 degrees at night, but the property manager didn't make it out or get our messages in time to fix for another hot night. The pull-out couch is kinda broken and dangles. The dishwasher at the main house needs some love and leaves dishes pretty dirty.
Overall, it was as expected and I am thankful for The Hosts for sharing their space with us.
The Host Reserve is in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Drive the scenic highway from Leakey to Utopia. Enjoy antiquing and shopping at one of a kind shops and boutiques. Hike our property or visit Garner State Park for views of the Texas hills. Golf at the Concan Country Club. Tube or fish the Frio River. Lounge on our spacious wrap-around porches gazing at the Texas wildlife and birds. Play tennis on site at our tennis court. Watch the sun set with a glass of wine in hand at our wine cellar.
