This 100-year-old bank was left to ruin, after a larger bank bought it out and closed it down.
The open design of the Bank makes it ideal for 2-3 adults plus children. The only bathroom is accessed through the main bedroom, off the kitchen.
**Note: If you are one family with more than 5 children coming (NOT adult children :)), and many of them are young, send an inquiry to me with how many adults, how many children plus their ages, and we will consider going over the maximum in this case.
The Bank's septic system is also "historic", and we have to treat it with tender loving care!
The vault is now a bedroom, with a twin over full bunk bed. There's also a TV with video player in the vault (no TV reception), just in case you want to lock your kids in there for a while. (Kidding...the steel vault door is wired open :)
The main teller's area is now the living room with TV/DVD. Plus a table if your group is larger and wants to eat meals in this spacious room. The living room has a twin day bed, and a twin trundle bed.
Off the living room is the former office area, which now has a queen size bed, a large reading chair with ottoman, and a nice-sized closet filled with extra linens, blankets, and some games and puzzles.
The kitchen is in the back of the bank--this was the employees' area. It comes complete with dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster oven, pots and pans, dishes, coffee maker, and a small dining area.
Off the kitchen is the laundry area, and that leads to the full bath, with tub/shower, towels and washcloths, plus hairdryer. (NOTE: The only bathroom is located at the back of the Bank, accessed through the main bedroom and the kitchen.)

Originally from the St. Louis area, I lived in Petersburg from 1998 to 2013. The first time I drove into town looking for a home to buy, the 'Old Petersburg Operahouse' was for sale. Having majored in music many years ago, the old building sent out a siren call for me to buy it! I've been buying and rehabbing in town ever since.
In 2011 I opened The Cottage for vacationers. It was a very slow start, and I wondered if it had been the right decision. But soon the Creation Museum guests started arriving--I love my guests! What a joy to interact with these Christian families (many with lots of children :), who are kind and intelligent...and take care of my home!
It was obvious right away that a vacation home offers a much-needed alternative to hotel rooms...most of which cannot accommodate the larger families. Also, the ability to cook your own meals instead of eating out can save money.
(And doing a little laundry during vacation can rescue you from a mountain of clothes when you get home...;-)
I hope you enjoy the adventure of staying in this historic bank building...
We loved staying at the Bank! We felt at home right away in this beautifully decorated home that is larger than it looks in the photos. Lots of extra amenities, and kitchen is supplied with everything you need to cook. My kids loved the free Netflix, and we all fell in love with the charming little town right near the river. Thank you, Deborah!
We enjoyed the peaceful town of Petersburg. We would spend our days on adventures and enjoy evening walks beside the river. The views this town offered were breathtaking. Deborah thought of everything we would possibly need. The library ,a block down from the Bank, offered fun facts about the town. The beds were comfortable and the appliances were top notch. We all had plenty of hot water to take our showers. We had plenty of seating to enjoy each other's company while we ate our meals. There were many different board games/games to entertain us but we enjoyed the town and area attractions. We had a huge supply of towels/wash cloths and dish towels. The neighbors were friendly and willing to answer any of our questions. The fridge and freezer was oversized and kept everything extremely cold. The bank had plenty of lighting and the lighting was adorable. Every square foot of the the Bank had personality. The washer and dryer were full sized and throughly cleaned our clothes. We had a lightbulb blow out. I emailed Deborah and 10 minutes later someone was contacting us to make arrangements to replace the bulb. Deborah provided two sets of keys and one of the sets had a clip on them so they were easy to keep up with. The tub was huge and we all enjoyed relaxing in the tub. The decor was simply adorable. We are so grateful to have had this opportunity to make memories at the bank.
The bank is a great place to stay. We are a family of six that fit comfortably. The surrounding buildings are rich with history and seeing the old Petersburg jail was a treat. There is a park nearby that the kids enjoyed playing at as well. The bank itself is well kept and clean.
The bank was an awesome place to spend the weekend. There was a comfortable amount of space for everyone in our 7 person group. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone looking for a super easy to access, beautiful and clean place to stay in the lovely town of Petersburg.
Very quaint, comfortable and cozy with a bit of history. Our three grandchildren loved sleeping in the vault. Very convenient location, only two blocks from the Ohio River, 7 minutes from the Creation Museum, and 50 minutes from the Ark Encounter. This rental is a great value.
5 miles from the Creation Museum.
16 miles from Perfect North Slopes.
