Our desire is to create a country feeling in the middle of the city. Our 'urban farm' includes chickens, bees, a greenhouse and vegetable gardens along with beautiful seasonal flowers. Our friendly chocolate lab, Koko, will surely greet you! No pets are allowed in the B&B area. You have the best of two worlds when staying at Gardenside B&B... your own private 710 square foot space (it really is ALL yours) where you can actually spread out and make yourself at home and at the same time have the opportunity to tap into the local attractions and offerings provided by your local hosts. How sweet is that?

About Heather Johnson

Your hosts, Heather and Doug Johnson, are excited to share their home and love of alaska with you. Doug is the fourth generation of his family to live in Alaska. Doug's family came to this great land in 1898 to mine gold in nome. Heather, on the other hand, came from the tropics. A third generation kama'aina (local) from the Big Island of Hawaii, Heather came to Alaska in 1976 and immediately fell in love with the land and its people. Together they share a love of travel and adventure and have an appreciation for what travelers need.

Why Heather Johnson chose Anchorage

The Johnson family home was built in 1958. Doug was three years old when he moved from his 5th Avenue home to where we currently live on West 20th Avenue, which was then considered the boondocks and great moose hunting grounds. Our home was remodeled in 1998. After our children moved out to pursue their university studies, we decided to renovate a space for fellow travelers and officially formed Gardenside Bed and Breakfast in 2012.

Our spacious 710 sq. ft. executive suite has a cozy private bedroom and bath. Also, one can relax in a sitting room or take part in a meal at the dining room table.

What makes this bed and breakfast unique

We are within walking distance to downtown Anchorage and also are located in the quaintness of Spenard. Chester Creek is in our back yard, giving guests access to fabulous x-c ski trails in the winter and wonderful bike paths in the summer.
