About Bob or Peggy Oxford

We first came to Makaha in 1979. Since then 3 generations of our family have come every year to enjoy paradise. It's a wonderful change of pace from our home in Colorado.

Bob or Peggy Oxford purchased this condo in 2005

Why Bob or Peggy Oxford chose Mākaha Valley

The Leeward Coast of Oahu is truly Hawaiian, away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, but near enough to visit Pearl Harbor, the Punch Bowl, Bishops Museum, the USS Arizona Memorial, the Flea Market at Aloha Stadium. and good food and big waves on the North Shore, all within 60 minutes.

What makes this condo unique

The view of the mountain across the valley as the sun rises is a joy we love to share with each other and those that come here as our guests. Or a 5 minute drive or 40 minute walk brings us to a small Makaha beach where the green sea turtles come daily to bask.

Great stay on the West coast

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great stay at this condo in August. The condo location and grounds are very unique tucked into the valley with a less than 5 min drive to beautiful, quiet beaches and gorgeous natural scenery. Grounds and pool are great. Yes there is security which was nice for us with having a small child and a car to secure. Condo has everything you need and Bob is great to deal with. Bit off the beaten path on the West coast so make sure to have a car to get to town and the beaches. Honolulu is not far away for day trips, shopping, etc.

Kapaau, Hawaii

Colorful and well-appointed condo.

  • 4 of 5

The contract we received initially had the incorrect charges on it, so we called the owner to get a new contract. We thought, "Well, that could happen to anyone." When we got on-island, we found that the code to get into the condo had not been e-mailed with any of our information from the owner, so we called for the code. We thought, "Well, that would be easy enough to overlook." When we got to the door of the condo with the code and found that there was no key in the key box and that condo security could not let us in, once again we called the owner. We waited on the doorstep for about an hour until the cleaning woman showed up to let us in. The condo (#713) was clean and had most everything that we needed for our 4-day stay. The decor is colorful with mirrors throughout the condo. We appreciated the use of the beach towels and the small cooler for carrying drinks to the beach. As others have noted, the peacocks can be loud if you sleep with the doors open. We didn't find them particularly intrusive, but the air brakes and back-up beeping of the garbage trucks and city buses starting at 4:45 AM each morning did get old. All in all, we had a pleasant stay here.

The towers are tucked back by themselves and are gated making the stay a very private peaceful place to stay

Blue Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

Affordable, comfortable, perfect location, literally less than a mile from the beach.

The salt-water swimming pool was refreshing, warm, and clean.

The feel of the property was like being in a resort.

This is “Old Country Hawaii”. It does not get any better.

Comfortable, but needs some updates and improvements

  • 4 of 5

Our vacation stay was great !

But, the condo was small and needs many updates.........

Kitchen was small and not functional. Storage was minimal.

Luckily we went out all of the time ........and, the roads were terrible with tons of accidents daily, which made travel very difficult to and from condo.

Condo was Great....All the "rules" and the peacocks...not so much!

  • 3 of 5

Stayed 3 days in the condo. Nicely furnished with everything needed for a comfortable stay including lots of extras. Owners were close by and very nice and helpful. Bed was comfortable and the condo was clean with no bugs! View of the Makaha Valley was beautiful!

....But the rules and regulations and the noise were a joke! The condo is located in the Makaha Towers. The towers are nice...but not Great! I have seen much nicer places with far less security! The people running the security think the place is FT KNOX...literally! Getting in requires your ID and sometimes your car rental agreement while they perform a mini background check which amounts to a 2-3 minute delay every time you drive in. If you are looking for friendly...some of those running the "check point" were not at all. If you parked too close to the line in the parking lot...they let you know in the form of a "citation" they left on your door. If you parked in the wrong parking lot...they let you know. If you are driving too fast(17mph) posted 15mph...they let you know. If you drive around the speed bumps...they let you know. If you hang something on the railing on the lanai to dry...they let you know. Who knows how many more rules we would have broken had we been there longer.

Another, complaint are the noisy peacocks that are on the property. Easily 25 of them running around. 1 peacock is noisy, let alone 25. At 4am EVERY morning(sometimes earlier)...they let you know they were there. Beautiful birds....just REALLY noisy!

So, if your not a rule breaker like I was...and don't mind the waiting when you enter the "compound"...and can get used to the noisy peacocks......the place is great.
