Overview

About the property

Recently remodeled 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, sleeps 8.

From our “Gualala Point View” house here’s what you’ll see: White water views with waves breaking on Gualala Point. Flights of Pelicans and Seagulls gliding by at eye level. The Gualala River flowing into the Pacific Ocean. An occasional fishing boat, and — in season — you’ll see whales as they make their eternal migration up or down the coast.

What you won’t see: traffic, malls, and parking lots.

What you’ll hear: the waves crashing to shore creating their own rhythmic and restful soundtrack to your relaxing visit.

What you’ll smell: The salt sea air.

What you’ll feel: Relaxation and renewal.

“Gualala Point View” is conveniently located within easy walk to shops, restaurants and grocery stores, and situated on a quiet bluff overlooking where the River meets the Sea. Beach access is a short 1/2 mile away; there is no direct beach access from GPV.

There are 3 bedrooms, plus a media room, an expansive living room with fireplace insert and a fantastic open kitchen. Both bathrooms have just been beautifully re-tiled and updated. We offer a propane BBQ and spa on the ocean-view deck.

R&R in a unique setting. The ocean-side deck and yard are your front-row seat for a kaleidescope of wildlife. We’ve noted raccoons, deer, rabbits, a large variety of birds, plus whales, porpoise and rarer sightings of orca! Join us, and create lasting memories. We’re excited to share!

About Coasting Home

We are native San Franciscans who still primarily reside in the City. But when busy schedules allow for a bit of rest and relaxation, we head north to our GPV home.

Coasting Home purchased this house in 2012

Why Coasting Home chose North Coast

We've been annual visitors to Gualala and the 'Mendonoma' coast since the early 1980s. Having rented homes up and down the area we came to know exactly where the area's weather sweet spot was located. When this lovely 1950s mid-century home (formerly owned by a well-known architect) came on the market we had to make it our home-away-from-home.

What makes this house unique

The breathtaking views from the deck and living room never fail to work their magic. Coming to GPV house is like entering another world where nature at her best is front and center. The cares of the work-day world fall into perspective and a certain enjoyment of nature seeps in to replace them — sometimes in as quickly as the time it takes to unlock the front door. Easy walking to stores, coffee shop, groceries and restaurants mean that you can park the car and forget about it till it's time to go home.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We arrived from Sherman Oaks and walked into paradise -- What an amazing view. We brought our binoculars with the hope of seeing some whales. Our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren loved sitting in the little nook -- we made it the library and read books in there.

We loved the house and deck and watching the birds come to eat! Even deer!!

Great setting, relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

A comfortable, spacious, well-appointed house with a deck overlooking the sea with its ever-changing activity. You can see the beach at the nearby regional park, a short drive through town. You can watch seals and whales. Gualala's shops and restaurants are a short walk from the house, which nevertheless feels quiet and private. We took a day trip north as far as the Point Arena lighthouse, stopping at several beaches. The house is clean, comfortable and pleasant. We found the kitchen convenient, and cooked several meals there. I will definitely plan to return!

Incredibly comfortable retreat with ocean view

  • 5 of 5

This is my second visit to this spacious, comfortable and clean home. The view from the deck is amazing! You can easily walk to shops for groceries and the kitchen is very well equipped for what ever you may want to prepare. Sit in the hot tub at night and see how many constellations you can name. We saw seals in the surf, a bald eagle and whales migrating north. The sound of the ocean will help you to sleep soundly in the very comfortable beds. Great location for a family reunion or friends get a way. Close to many great beaches on the beautiful northern California coast.

These photos are misleading. This house is NOT of the oceanfront. This house is a cobbled together ranch style home that has a lot if minuses. - especially the kitchen and equipment. Very dark lighting - most stuff in the house is chintzy. Master bedroom bed is awful. Clean: Yes. Convenient: Yes. Great getaway on ocean bluff NO.

Owner's Response: We are sorry this guest found our country home lacking. To be clear we have not intentionally misled anyone.  All of the photographs of the view shown on our website are as seen from the living room and or deck: No tricks, no Photoshop -- they are the real deal.   Our description clearly states that the home in on a bluff overlooking the ocean. The house's back yard, living room and deck do, in fact, front onto the ocean. The fact that it is on a bluff may be at the heart of the misunderstanding here. As to the kitchen -- all of the appliances are new as of our renovation in mid 2012. We just added task lighting for the counter tops which should be in before long. The beds are all new from date of renovation as well, and many visitors have posted in the log book and told us personally that they have gotten some of the best sleep in their lives there. In sum: the items in the home are "'country casual' meant to enhance a relaxing visit, and intended to provide an excellent value for the dollar.

Wow...

Spent a long birthday weekend here with my family. Surf sounds, beautiful views, great "home away from home". Loved being able to walk to breakfast, dinner, a supermarket. A great place to be...

A Special & Magical Place

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in many VRBO properties over the years, but this is by far our favorite find. It has everything we look for in a vacation home - location, peace, beauty, comfort. The house and deck have vast Pacific views of beach, ocean, and crashing waves. The deck is protected from wind so you can sit for hours with a glass of wine, or cup of tea, or linger in the hot tub while whale watching. We watched a mother whale with her baby calf just feet from the beach one afternoon! The home is warm and lovely; spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated in soothing colors. The kitchen is open to the living space, and easy to cook in with everything you need. We spent one evening in front of the fire playing board games, and another watching a movie in the media room. The bed was so comfortable, and with the window open we could hear the waves crashing as we fell into a deep sleep. Lastly, while the location is super close to the village it seems a million miles away. We were within a 5 minute walk to restaurants, bars, fabulous shops, bookstore, massage therapist studio, art galleries, etc., but this home is completely private and quiet. It's the perfect place to stay in all seasons since it would be gorgeous no matter what the weather and we look forward to returning. It simply doesn't get better than this.

Twice each year we have hundreds of whales passing by. The migration is from November through May. The best time to see a whale from GPV house is in March, but they can be spotted almost any time of year.

Grey whales migrate south in the fall to the warmer breeding grounds near Baja California, and then head north in early spring to the feeding grounds off Alaska. Most will appear only as puffs of steam in the blue sea, but grab a pair of binoculars and you'll be amazed. Some will even come in close to the Gualala River Estuary. Additionally, some individual Grays are seen during the summer months off the northern California coast. Gray whales produce a distinctive V-shaped blow, and usually blow several times, at short intervals, before diving for 3-5 minutes.
