Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd time staying at the Crab Cottage, and it did not disappoint. The location, with the mighty Pacific as your back yard, it unbeatable. Yes, its vintage...but take the time to read the guest book that has entries from the 50s when the original owners were building this little cottage. Reading their words, then staying in the cabin they built seems to make the Crab Cottage that much cozier. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you might need to cook with, the bathroom has more than enough clean towels ( and surprisingly great water pressure!), there are games and movies and a great gas fireplace for the winter/spring nights.

We also love the geographical location as another reason to stay here. We are not a long drive from the beaches at La Push, Rialto Beach, and both the Hoh and Quinault Rainforests- all of which are great for hiking.

The first time we went it was just my husband and I, the 2nd time we took our two teen boys who thought the loft was way cool. The cottage served both purposes (with and without kids) just fine. There is a brand new couch now which is super comfortable. We love The Crab Cottage, and we will definitely go there again!

Amazing location, affordable price

  • 4 of 5

The location for crab cottage can't be beat! Right on the beach & windows to watch the waves (& sunset).

As other reviewers mentioned, the cabin is a little run down and could use some updating, but that's reflected in the price. It seemed like the things the property management has control over (kitchen, bathroom, sheets, etc) was great, Even a new sponge in the kitchen. We did not use the upstairs - the downstairs seemed nicer & we didn't need the space. The sofa seemed new and the carpets were fine for walking on, there was an area rug over the living room area.

We loved being right on the ocean and had a great sunset the first night. The second day was better weather and we walked and found fossils on the beach & flew kites. We were here in April on a "non-clam" tide day and the beach was nearly empty most of the time which was great!

We were here with a 3 year old and had a great trip!

Great Location...not so great condition.

  • 2 of 5

While the cabin is in a seriously great location, it is in desperate need of some TLC. The love seat was broken, the carpet pretty grungy, and it was pretty shabby ( and I don't mean shabby chic ). It is budget friendly but I just felt dirty staying there. It just does not seem like any of the profits of this particular cottage are invested back into the condition of the property. The only reason I'm not giving it one star is due to it's location.

Owner's Response: Hi Christy! Thank you so much for your review. I am happy to tell you that yes, indeed, the owners are in the process of doing some upgrades. That is a new mattress on the Murphy bed, as well as a new microwave oven. Just recently they have had new windows installed, as well as the front door, and we just had a bid come in to have the roof replaced. Once the roof is replaced, I am certain they will return their focus on the inside of Crab Cottage. We have discussed the floor with them previously (we would like to see all floor coverings replaced, not just the carpeting in the living room) and the love seat was recently broken. Again, thank you for the review, and I hope you will give Crab Cottage a try again in the future. It has a regular following (agreed, you cannot beat the location and price!) As the changes occur, I think you will be quite pleased!

Perfect place for a family get away!

  • 4 of 5

Our family stayed here 2 nights. My husband and two young boys aged 5 and 11 had a wonderful stay. We were worried about pets being allowed, that it may be unclean for children however we saw no signs of animals outside or in. The house was warmed by the gas fireplace which was wonderful considering the passing spring rain showers and damp clothes and shoes from two curious boys getting chased by waves! The loft area was comfy, the beds were ok. Kitchen was functional (bring your own can opener), with coffee available and a newer coffee machine. The bathroom was good although the sink drained slowly. Shower was nice and hot. Furniture was comfy and the views from the living room...ahhh to die for!! The fire pit was our favorite gathering spot, we could keep an eye on the fire from inside while we waited out a squal. Wood was in a pile off to the side of the pit. We had to dry it out a bit but no biggie. My boys had a blast in the yard and an easy hop skip and jump and we were on the beach. The sunsets were beautiful. Wifi worked great with no problems.

You can definitely feel the history in this building, good vibes and positive energy! There are some neat driftwood houses nearby on the beach, my boys thought they were so cool pretending to be pirates!

The only negative thing was on the second day we saw ants appearing..then more..and more. My little one was a bit freaked out by it when one was crawling on him :( we noticed ant traps out so were careful to keep all food tightly closed upon arrival. We will recommend the crab shack to our friends and will definitely stay again. The experience and PRICE will bring us back. Thank you so much for allowing us to be guests and look forward to the next time!!

You're never crabby at the Crab Cabin

  • 4 of 5

My dogs and I stayed for two nights. It is very cozy and comfortable. The location is perfect. The neighbors are all really nice. It is very quiet and serene. I spent most of my time in a beach chair on the raised grass area overlooking the beach, or we were walking and playing on the beach. It was very relaxing. I wish I would have stayed longer. The only drawbacks are no Internet access and no table and chairs on the deck. Cell service is non-existent out in Moclips, and Internet access is a must for those who need to stay in touch.
