Contemporary Hill Country describes this unique house, tucked into the hillside with a spectacular view across to Fredericksburg, six miles away. No wonder Charlie Cain, an investor in the San Antonio-Fredericksburg railroad, gave this location its special name back in 1914. The property – 10 acres of Inspiration Hill – was in fact the inspiration for the house's its extraordinary design and personality.
Stucco exterior and standing-seam metal roof hold the cool in summer and warmth in winter. Inside, a stunning mix of modern, international antique, color and texture mix comfortably. Rock terracing and private outdoor shower lure visitors outside. Inside, full-length glass doors and oversized windows bring in the dazzling views day and night. Simple and uncluttered, the furnishings create a harmonious effect. Luscious bed linens, colors to luxuriate in – both warm and cool – chosen to bring the Hill Country indoors. There are three distinctive bedrooms and full baths, a king and two doubles, a single sofa bed in the upstairs den, and a large fold-out queen in the main living room.
First, a tapestry inspired master suite (king bed) with antique Mexican mesquite doors open onto the screen porch with fireplace. A leather chaise is great to lounge with a book or after a bath. Adjoining master bath has a river rock shower and Jacuzzi-spa. Back door and porch lead to an outdoor shower for a moonlight experience – or a cooling relief from a hot summer day. Second, a corner bedroom (double bed) with Indian silks and velvets, and Asian antiques make this a hideaway for relaxation. This room's bath is dark red with red granite countertop. Third, an upstairs bedroom (double bed) with a romantic canopy bed and flowing white curtain surrounds. This bedroom has windows on opposite sides and you can open them for a cross-breeze and moonlit sleep. Its bath has tile, rosewood granite, and a glass-enclosed oversized shower. Please note that pricing is by the bedroom/bath. Each bedroom used will result in an increased rate.
All bedrooms have TVs with satellite connections, sports package and Netflix, HBO and Showtime. The house has high-speed wireless internet connections. Sit on the screened porch with your computer and talk to the office – or not!
The kitchen is fully equipped for those with Cordon Bleu aspirations, granite-topped island for watching the chef while having a glass of wine, and the dining room seats 8 with an 8-foot table and 10-foot sideboard. The living room with its extraordinary views of the valley opens onto a screened porch with a gas-log fireplace, and is a favorite spot to sip a cocktail and watch the sun slip away.
The famous town of Luckenbach, with its dancehall and post office is just 4 miles down the road.
Enjoy your stay. We hope it inspires you as it does its owners and its award-winning designer and builder.

We welcome good dogs up to 30 pounds to stay with their owners at Inspiration Hill. We are HAPPY TO MAKE EXCEPTIONS for larger dogs or two small ones – provided 1) you tell us when you book and give details and, 2) you're respectful and follow the guidelines, particularly those on furniture and crating your dog when it's left alone.
We follow these guidelines with our own dogs and we would just ask that you respect these too:
- Please do not leave your dog alone in the house unless you crate or kennel him or her. The screened porch is not a substitute for a crate.
- Please keep your dog off the furniture, including the beds
- They may see deer or cats out the big glass doors and get really excited to chase them. The cats are our friends - they keep the property free of unwanted varmints, so please don't let your dog interfere with their ability to do that.
- Please don't let your dog scratch on the doors - let them out if you like, but the property is not fenced, so be aware of that
- Pick up any waste your dog leaves on the property and dispose of it properly
