About Trish Symons

Originally from the UK, we now live in Toronto, Canada with our 2 teenage kids.

Trish Symons purchased this house in 2012

Why Trish Symons chose White Rock Hills

We wanted to buy land and build our dream home overlooking the Caribbean Sea so we could enjoy warm weather year-round. When we found this spot, we fell in love with the view, the people, and couldn't pass. Easy access from Toronto (direct flights Nov-May) and such friendly and welcoming people helped make our decision easy.

What makes this house unique

Perched on top of White Rock Hills estate, the view is spectacular, you can sit for hours and watch the time go by. Hilltop breezes keeps the bugs at bay and there's no sand flies like oceanside properties. .

The 25 feet of glass between the living room and the patio bring the outside in.

Concierge services available (car rentals, private chef, masseuse, nanny, excursions etc.)

Guestbook comments from the manager

First of all, your house is just as spectacular as it looked online! We were worried it was too good to be true, but it was true! We really enjoyed staying there and would recommend it to others.

One problem we had was the upstairs bedroom was too hot for our kids to sleep up thereso A/C would be good (Note from owner: This has since been installed). Overall, our stay was fabulous. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Amazing views with several disappointments

  • 2 of 5

The views from this home are some of the best on the Island. A car is a must but very easy drive to anywhere you may want to go. The home has a large well supplied kitchen, big open living room and large bedrooms with high end bathrooms. The owner and caretaker who lives just down the road are very responsive and helpful.

The home has a glass wall that is designed to open the entire house for indoor outdoor living. Unfortunately guest are not allowed to open the glass wall. Who wants to be in a home that can open entirely to the outdoors with such wonderful views and not be able to enjoy living as such? We found this very detracting.

In addition there is very little circulation in the pool. We requested an extra cleaning which was provided promptly but bug and leaves accumulate on the surface within minutes of cleaning because the circulation does not flow toward the filter. We asked to turn on the infinity edge to increase the circulation but were told this was too complicated for guests to use. As a result even the kids did not want to spend more than a few minutes in the pool with bugs and leaves in stagnant water.

This is a spectacular property with outstanding views. Despite being such a wonderful place not being able use the indoor outdoor living and having to deal with stagnant water in the pool will keep us from visiting this property in the future.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review Kyle. I am sorry it hear you felt like you had a two star stay. We strive to always provide 5 star service. While we would love to offer guests use of the glass wall, the cost to repair is higher than we can we can ask for the security deposit. Parts and labor have to be flown in from off North America. After the last damage caused, we had no option but to remove opening the wall as a feature of the house on the listing so there would be no expectations. The leaves in the pool do vary depending on the season (if the trees nearby are shedding their leaves) and amount and direction of the wind. There are definitely more leaves falling at this time of year. We will investigate increasing the suction to address the issue and/or trimming back some of the trees. I will add that neither issue has been reported by prior guests as detracting from their stay at Colina Vista (we've been renting 4+ years), so I'm sorry to hear you didn't share their positive experience. Trish. Update 3/19/17 - I checked with the current guests staying. They said with the few leaves that did fall they could easily remove with the pool net.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house the week before easter and it was everything it claimed to be. Great views in a fantastic location. Its really a short drive to grocery stores or to west bay or west bay beach. The furnishings of the house were fantastic and the bedroom A/C units were perfect for the evenings. The management company in Roatan took great care of us and helped set up things when we asked them too. It was nice to be able to get away from the crowds in the evenings and enjoy the views. Internet was a little spotty on occasion but even with two teenagers it wasn't a problem. Would highly recommend the unit to others visiting Roatan and who are looking for a great place to stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review Brad and that you loved both the house and the island. I agree that it's the best of both worlds, seclusion and peace with great views when you want them and close to places to eat, swim and shop when you want more to do! We are already investigating what we can do for better internet. Easter is the busiest time of the year on the island so that was most likely the contributing factor (I am in IT and able to work remotely at other times of the year with the current service we have).

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home for our familiy reunion vacation and absolutely loved it! The scenery is breath taking and the breeze that comes during the night is amazing. We loved to open the back glass doors and windows to let the breeze come in. AC in the rooms really helped during the day time. Everything was fairly close. The local grocery store just minutes away and west bay beach was about 20 minutes away. My only recommendation for those renting this home is not to get a standard vehicle. You have to go up a few hills to get to the home and it is much easier to do so with an automatic. A vehicle rental is a must. All activities are in west bay beach or near the house. We will definately come back next year!

Colina Vista

wonderful house overlooking the sea.

perfect setting .

owners and management were absolutely stellar .

lacked nothing

anyone considering a trip to Roatan who really enjoys travel would be so much happier to stay here than a resort- this offered all of the features of a high end hotel with the benefits of privacy.

hear birds chirping in the mornings and enjoy a morning swim as well as cocktails overlooking the sunset
