About Martha Newman
We are an architect and artist who love nature and good times. Once we updated our place we realized we should share, this spot is special. We followed good friends to this area on a whim, then completely fell in love with the high desert.
Martha Newman purchased this House in 2011
Why Martha Newman chose Yucca Valley
After a few visits we realized how great a getaway spot this is from the beach cities where we live. That may sound odd but the high desert vibe is different and fun. We love the clean air, clear skies, and wonderful people, venues, art shops, the whole package is other worldly and unique. It is nice to have all that space around us, where we can let the dogs off leash and howl at the harvest moon!
What makes this House unique
We had been trying for another property that was a short sale and the banks were not cooperating. Then we saw this one, with the ad saying it had 8 bathrooms and was designed by Frank Lloyd 'Write'! My husband said, we've got to see this place. Turned out it was a typo, 3.5 bathrooms and someone just added the numbers 3 and 5 together. I asked the realtor where the Frank Lloyd Wright allusion came from, he said, he just thought it looked like a Frank Lloyd Wright design, so he put that in the ad. When we saw it, we fell in love immediately. We found out that Frank Lloyd was in the area around the year our place was built, 1958, and he and his son designed several projects, including a public building just a few miles away on highway 62. Our place has a lot of elements that are reminiscent of his designs, so see for yourself and let us know what you think!

Our wishes came true at "three wishes!"
We rented the property for several of us to stay for a family wedding in Yucca Valley. The house was perfect to sleep alot of relatives, and to have impromptu get togethers on the large, screened-in veranda. Thanks very much for a splendid time !
A great house
Loved it stay! Wish the beds were bigger but lovely overall.
This place was perfect for our group. There is tons of space and we never felt cramped. As large was it is, it was still comfy. We loved the fireplace in the living room and the kitchen has EVERYTHING! I cannot recommend it enough.
Versatile, spacious, and well-maintained
We had a great stay here! Martha is responsive and accommodated our schedule so we got off to a great start.
The house has a lot of space. We had three different family groups in the house and it was easy. Each group had their own space (bedroom(s) and bathroom). In addition, there are a central living & kitchen area and a patio where everyone could gather together. This was perfect for Thanksgiving.
The house is clean and well-maintained. The owners definitely take pride in the house.
The location is convenient to Pioneertown/ Pappy & Harriett's and Joshua Tree Park, about 15 min from each.
The place is actually better than the photos. We were all very happy with our stay!
Great place for Joshua Tree visits
My family of 10 rented the house over Easter weekend to hike Joshua Tree and see the spring flowers. The house accommodated our large group, providing a bed for everyone who wanted one (we had a lot of singles who didn't necessarily want to share). The location was perfect, only a 10 minute ride from the Joshua Tree Visitor Center entrance (or a 20 minute ride to the less crowded Oasis Visitor Center entrance). The house was clean and well maintained. There was wifi throughout the house, although we found only 5 or so people could be connected at one time. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need to cook with and there were plenty of plates/utensils/cups. They even had a propane grill/smoker in the backyard and a fireplace in their screened-in porch area where we cooked s'mores every night. Everyone was comfortable and had a wonderful time. It was nice to have a place that was spacious enough to allow our extended family to get together at night, have dinner and play games. Martha was very accommodating and promptly answered all our questions both before and during our stay. I highly recommend this property.
This house was exactly what we were looking for when coming to Joshua Tree. It has such character and was everything we hoped it would be. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms were great. Martha and Family sure know how to make your experience all that it should be. Thank you again for letting us stay here. We look forward to staying here again in the future!
Our house is 3.9 miles from the west end of Joshua Tree National Park for hiking, rock climbing, and exploring exotic nature, yet we are also just a mile or two from a movie theater, several grocery stores and markets, and great eating choices (Mexican, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Thai, barbecue, breakfast cafes, hamburger stands, new age organic, the list goes on). For treasure hunters we have two flea markets and loads of shops selling everything from cast off wagon wheels to the craft of local artisans and unusual antiques.
Desert Hot Springs with all its spas, etc., is 23 miles away, Palm Springs is just a bit farther, at 30 miles. Another fun day trip takes you to Morongo Casino, 30 miles from us, or Fantasy Springs at 50 miles if you want to enjoy their spas and gaming. You can also take the back way to Big Bear and ski, that's 60 miles. Golfers in your group can enjoy a course a day for months with no repeats, while those wanting a more other worldly experience can visit the Integration by day and watch the clear bright skies for celestial events by night.
