Home away from home, but on the beach!
We had a very relaxing stay. Vicky was a super host by accommodating our every need and replying to emails extremely quickly. The home is literally steps from the beach - you can see the ocean from the living room! There are cafes and restaurants within walking distance. The home is very spacious and bright and I must mention that the beds are super comfortable. The only thing I would suggest is to pack your own shampoo and body soap. Other than that, you are all set for a great vacation!
Enjoyed hosting you Judy! Thank you so much.
4 Times in 4 Years
Love visiting this area..... beach access, swimming, surfing, bicycling, jogging, restaurant dining, and more... or just interested in the stay-at-home-feel for some rest & relaxation..... if any of that's your cup-of-tea, then DolphinHouse provides the near perfect experience / convenience to a variety of day-to-day activities that we enjoy.
Vicky is just wonderful and accommodating to work with, and has made our choice to return, and return, and return an easy one.
Awesome location - awesome owner
100 feet from the beach -- super comfy -- and Vicky was so helpful -- what more can you ask for - can't wait to come back
Fair but look elsewhere
In short: This apartment isn't bad but it has significant issues, and there are so many great options in Los Angeles, especially on the beach, that it's worth at least looking at other options.
Firstly, though, the positives:
--Stayed at "dolphin house" for two weeks; property was clean and well-maintained
--Location is not actually in Venice (just over the border in Marina del Rey) but is a bloc from the beach, which is great
--The common room area is comfortable and well-designed
Unfortunately in our experience these were balanced out by significant negatives:
-Sound insulation is non-existent between this unit and the one below (and also between the rooms). You can hear everything and they can hear everything, and they complained about people simply walking around upstairs. Really need to install carpets or sound dampening insulation; this was the biggest problem.
-The upstairs is not at all enclosed (which is as depicted, but a negative), so privacy is limited, and it did not have a pull out,
-The owner changed the listed price after we contacted her, although she eventually agreed to the originally listed price
-Because the unit is actually in Marina Del Rey, it's not in the heart of Venice Beach. It's not a long walk to get to things but it is a walk
-The garage is the smallest two car garage I've ever seen; do not expect to fit anything bigger than an economy sized car without substantial difficulty
We incurred damage from this renter.
Home Away From Home
From the very moment we arrived... we knew we had made the right choice.
Dolphin House offered most all the amenties we were accustomed to when at home... comfortable living room in which to relax and watch TV / use WiFi, fully equipped kitchen, more than adequate sleeping arrangements (for two or four or six adults), beautifully appointed and soothing-aqua-colored Master Bedroom, terrific shower facilities ('specially the "newly remodeled" bath), 2-car garage, beach gear (chairs, towels, umbrella).
Location... location... location...
Can't beat Dolphin House for its proximity to everything that's happening locally.
Area restaurants and bars (highly recommend Mercedes Grille, Casa Ado Ristorante and Venice Ale House), coffee houses, farmer's markets, grocery stores, bicycle path to Venice Beach, a short drive to the 3rd St Promenade (Santa Monica), Malibu, Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills and Westwood (UCLA Campus).
Oh, and let's not forget to mention... once you exit the Dolphin House front steps, in less than a minute you can be standing on the beach, and after a short walk across the sand... you can be swimming in the Pacific or watching the dolphins, surfers, sailboats and parasailers. In the evening, head down to watch the gorgeous California sunsets on the horizon, or stroll along the shore while the moonlight radiates off the surf.
In closing, cannot add enough kind words to describe Dolphin House owner... Vicky
Although we had actually never met, a great lady to do business with. Treated us like we were old friends... could not have been more accommodating - communicative - attentive to our every need...
Thank you, Vicky, for a truly wonderful and memory-filled 2-week vacation!
Hope to return in 2014
Great Location; Wonderful Apartment
Came to LA for nephew's wedding in the Valley (110 degrees). Promised granddaughter we would go to the ocean for a couple of days after. The Dolphin House was the perfect spot! View of the ocean (saw dolphins out the window), Plenty of space for our group of five (4 adults and 1 child). Neighborhood was eclectic and very fun. Good food choices. Wish we had more than three days there. Two caveats. All harwood and tile floors, and downstairs neighbor not the frienliest when 9 year old is dancing with joy. Also, there is a 2 car garage included, but being on an alley and being single stalls, a large vehicle will not fit and other parking is difficult to find. (I swapped out the rental car).
Quiet walk-street; steps to beach; walk to famous Venice Beach boardwalk and many restaurants. Surfing, biking, boating. More great restaurants & shopping on nearby Abbot Kinney Blvd., Main St., and famous 3rd St. Promenade.
