About Deani Higashi
Deani and Todd Higashi have been residents of the Wailua Homesteads for nearly 30 years. Both locals of this gorgeous island, they have chosen to raise their five children and two grandchildren nestled amongst the lush greenery of Kauai. Todd, a longtime surfing instructor, spends his days teaching young and old alike to learn to surf the beautiful waters, and Deani works overlooking and maintaining gorgeous properties around the Garden Island. Both love spending time with their beautiful 'ohana!
Deani Higashi purchased this Cottage in 1988
Why Deani Higashi chose Kapaa
Upon seeing the Wailua Homesteads, Todd and Deani fell instantly in love and knew this was the place to raise their family together. Away from the hustle and bustle of Kapa'a and other nearby towns, this upcountry farmland estate provided a safe, quiet place for their multiple children and grandchildren to play safely and enjoy true island living. The seperate cottage was built in 1990 as a longterm rental on the edge of the property and remodeled just last year, and Deani and Todd decided to turn it into a vacation rental in order to provide more opportunity for others to experience beautiful Kauai!
What makes this Cottage unique

Pleasant home stay
Conveniently located. Excellent kitchen paraphernalia. In a normal suburban neighborhood with all the attendent noises. Close to the road.
Great cottage with lots of extras for a wonderful stay on the island
Comfortable cottage just a few miles from main highway. Easy access to the whole island with lots of things to make our stay enjoyable.
Nice couple's cottage in Wailua Homesteads
Comfortable cottage to explore Kauai from. Quiet neighborhood with helpful hosts onsite in main house.
Beautiful location away from the crowds
Deani's country cottage was the perfect spot to return each evening after a day spent hiking or on the beach. Very comfortable for two.
Sweetest little Island Cottage in a great setting
We loved this place! Beautifully decorated and nestled in an upcountry neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of town but yet still close enough for all our activities. We were so pleasantly surprised to have a gorgeously decorated Christmas tree to welcome us. The cottage had everything we could possibly need. Since we had just come from 4 days of playing and hiking in Waimea, we needed to be able to wash a few things and having a laundry to use was perfect. The cottage is cozy and comfortable and beautifully decorated. We loved the wild chickens that roam the island and property. I'm a crazy chicken lady and they made me feel right at home. We also had everything we could possibly need for our daily excursions in the way of a cooler, extra beach towels, chairs, an umbrella and beach mats....not to mention snorkeling gear.
We arrived to find two yummy little loaves of gingerbread waiting for us! Such a sweet treat and welcoming gesture. Thank you, Deani. Sorry we didn't get to meet you in person but we'd love to come back for another visit soon! We were very busy everyday exploring and having the time of our lives. Kauai is now my favorite island destination. The diversity of the island with it's little micro climates makes it a great destination for those that like to get off the beaten path. One of my favorite experiences was walking silently and barefoot in the Kauai Hindu Monastery. So peaceful and such a beautiful setting. Mahalo and Happy New Year!
Home Away from Home
Wonderful place. Fully stocked kitchen with pots, pan, utensils and appliances that were in excellent condition. Decorations and furniture were tasteful. It exceeded our expectations. Having stayed at many vacation rentals in the past, this has not often been the case. Lii Lani Cottage will certainly be our pick for our next trip to Kauai
The greatest part about staying in the Wailua area is the central location. You can easily travel to the north or south or west side of the island. You may want to consider one of the fabulous Luas or ATV tours or a zip line adventure. If that seems a little too much then take a drive around the island and catch the view of waterfalls.
