The Victorian mansion was built in 1882. Throughout the years it has been owned and modified by several people. My wife and I have taken efforts to restore this house to its original beauty by working with the Louisville Preservation Society. While restoring the house, we stripped the walls down to the plaster and found 2 locations that were signed by the paper hangar in September 1905. Those signatures were preserved under a protective glass. This house has so much character with its 12 foot ceilings, ornate trim and large rooms. In the past several years, the Thompson Street Opera group has reserved the house for 2 months at a time because it was a great place for them to live and rehearse.

About Troy Thompson
I have worked for the federal government at Fort Knox as an IT administrator for over 30 years. I am a general aviation pilot and a certified FAA drone pilot. Being outdoors on bikes or in canoes is my type of fun. My wife is a chef and owns a catering business in the Louisville area.
Troy Thompson purchased this House in 2012
Why Troy Thompson chose Russell
My wife and I bought this Victorian Mansion in 2012 and immediately starting restoring it to its original state. We hired a consultant who helped us navigate the process and coordinate with the Preservation Society. It has a lot of history and charm. With its 12 foot ceilings and ornate trim, it is an experience far from a hotel. Although the property isn't in walking distance of many attractions or restaurants, it is just a few miles away from 4th Street Live and Churchill Downs. A few miles to the south of Louisville will lead you to the Bourbon Trail and Mammoth Cave.

Reminiscent Of Days of OId
In extremely close proximity of downtown. Home owners Troy and Michelle met us on property and were extremely helpful in getting us settled. This house is reminiscent of the days of old, of which we are extremely fond.
Richard and his friends were great to deal with. Kept the house in good order and excellent communication. I hope they make it back to Louisville. They even brought us some cuts of meat from the great state of Louisiana, which Michelle prepared to perfection. Thank you so much for staying with us!
Great location and lots of room for a large group!!!!
We had a party of 8 and we still had room for more! We were attending races at Churchill Down, the location was perfect as described. Troy and Michelle were awesome hosts! They met us when we arrived to make sure we were settled in and had everything we needed and then again when we left. Great communication and very accommodating! They strive to make sure you have everything you need for a perfect stay! We highly recommend staying here and would stay here again in a heartbeat! Thanks Michelle and Troy!!!
Great historic home
This home is beautiful and well cared for. Close to everything and accomodated our party of 8 with plenty of room to spare. Troy and Michelle are wonderful hosts.
Michael and his guests were wonderful. They took great care of the house. No issues at all. Hope they visit us again.
Loved our stay!
We had a wonderful time. Plenty of room for the entire family. Troy met us at check in and at check out. He made sure we knew how to use the alarm system and introduced us to the neighbors. The neighbor came over later to let us know my husband had accidentally hit the remote start on his truck. We would definitely stay again.
Aged but lots of character and very spacious! Also very clean for a house that old.
Took my 17u basketball team that included a 6'6" 300 pounder, another 6'5" 240 pounder, a 6'8" 240 pounder, and several other 6 foot plus kids - plenty of space! Loved the character and history of the house. Troy and Michelle were excellent hosts even allowing us to check in early to rest before our first game, and check out late to shower after our last game. We had a 9-hour drive home ahead of us and they wouldn't let us make the drive in sweaty basketball uniforms. Much appreciated! Great communication throughout. Couldn't ask for anything more.
We stayed here for 9 days with 2 familes for a basketball tournament in July. What an amazing home!! Plenty of room for all. Troy was very attentive and knowledgeable of the area, he has done great work restoring this beautiful victorian. The location of the home is near everything, ample parking and the home has everything you need for your stay. I would highly recommend this home. We look forward to returning next year.
Tessie and her family were the best kind of guests. They were thoughtful, attentive and very kind. They truly shared the love we have for Victorian style homes and had many great suggestions for us. I hope we can host them again in the future.
