The view from our cabin on Fontana Ridge is spectacular -- one of the best on the mountain. We look down on the Tuckasegee River and out to the Smoky Mountains. We call the cabin 'No Worries' because that's how we feel when we're there. Our spacious 3+ bedroom house is over three levels, from the master bedroom on the top floor to two game rooms on the lowest floor. Although the house is tastefully decorated with real furniture, not rental pieces, we set it up with comfort and family fun in mind. All beds are real beds with comfortable mattresses, the game rooms have an assortment of games, even a pool table, and the living areas are open and inviting.
The main deck offers gorgeous sunrises with views of the Great Smoky Mountains and the Tuckaseegee River. The wraparound deck has a picnic table for outdoor dining, a gas grill and a porch swing. That's where we spend most of our time in the summer. The covered space means you can enjoy the view even in the rain while the uncovered side opens to the sun and moon. We take most of our meals on the picnic table on the deck but there is a large dining table just inside the French doors.
The dining area adjoins the kitchen and the living room (great room). In keeping with our goal of comfort, the plush seating in the great room includes four recliners. There is a flat screen TV with DiretTV and a wood burning fireplace. The floor plan is open, with a partial wall separating the kitchen from the rest of the space. The kitchen is open and airy with all the modern conveniences including a large stand up refrigerator/freezer, full stove, microwave, coffee maker and toaster oven.
There are two bedrooms on this floor, one with a queen sized bed and the other a double.
The master bedroom is nestled under the peak of the A-frame on the top floor. Windows and doors open to the outside deck and the loft space next to the room, which, along with the ceiling fans, allows good circulation. The spacious room easily accommodates the king sized bed and furniture without feeling cramped. Step outside onto the private deck to watch the sunset or come in and read in the loft sitting area outside the bedroom. The sofa in the loft pulls out into a bed for your extra guests.
Two recreation rooms are set up on the bottom level,, with a pool table, a flat screen TV with cable and a cabinet filled with games for both adult and children. This is a perfect place to shoot pool while watching your favorite sporting event. The other room is aimed at children, with a TV set up with a DVD player, a set of day beds, a bean bag chair, and even a game table. We provide some DVDs but feel free to bring your own or bring along a gaming system for the kids.
Outside, there is a large flat play area for children, and plenty of flat parking for your vehicles. Cabin access is easy, as all roads are paved.
I am originally from Florida and now live in a small town in Northern California, where I raised my two sons. Both boys are in college now so we don't get to travel together as much as we used to. Since we live across the country we realized we can open our cabin to other families with the help of our friends on the mountain.
We enjoy hiking. snorkeling, scuba diving and exploring together, and travel as much as work and school and our budgets permit. Live music shows are a passion, as well. My kids and I are avid readers and leave a trail of paper back books everywhere we go.
Cyndi Goddard purchased this cabin in 2007
Growing up in Florida, we vacationed in North Carolina and this cabin is the chance for me to provide my family with some of the experiences I remember so fondly from childhood. As a writer, I found its location ideal for getting away and concentrating on my next project.
The view overwhelmed me. Getting up to take coffee on the deck, seeing the sunrise over the river and the mists over the Smoky Mountains is the bet way I can think of to start a day.
Our family loved the cabin and the amazing view, it was our first time in a cabin and it was better than we expected. We can't wait to come back!
We travelled to 'No worries Cabin' to take my two children and two nephews on the Polar Express ride in Bryson City. The house was amazing! There was plenty of room and the large wrap around porch was everyone's favorite spot! The views this cabin have are so beautiful. It was a comfy home with everything we needed!
We came up from Florida just before Thanksgiving to spend a few days in the mountains before the bustle of the holiday season kicked in. What shocked and delighted us was that even with the leaves mostly gone, the views were still outstanding. No Worries is situated on a ridge in a quiet mountain development. The drive up is a bit of an adventure, but the roads are paved, and it was easy to find. Upon arriving we found the cabin to be large, well-furnished, and inviting. I can't say enough about the view from the back deck. Despite it being quite a ways away, the sound of the rapids in the river below complements the view.
The beds are plentiful, large and comfortable. The great room has a fireplace and a large TV for late night movies. The kitchen is well-stocked and everything works well. The cabin remained warm and cozy despite the freezing temperatures outside. A minor issue is that there is only one bathroom, but with 2 teenage girls, a 12 year old boy, and two adults, we managed, so it never became a problem.
There were brochures and pamphlets from many different attractions in the cabin, but our greatest thrill came from driving up to Clingman's Dome in the middle of the Smoky Mountain National Park. Due to the cold, and low clouds, the trees at that elevation were coated in frost (rime) and sparkled magically in sun. Being lowlanders from Florida, we were enthralled. Even on the verge of winter, the mountains still had some surprises for us.
If you want to use Bryson City as your mountain jumping off point, you can't go wrong with No Worries! We are already planning another trip in summer when we can do some hiking and river rafting.
The No Worries Cabin was a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The cabin is remote, with great views. However, it is also close to Bryson City where you can enjoy all there is in the small town. Our host was gracious and communicated well before our trip answering all of our questions and offering her advice on some of the sites to see. The one lane road to the cabin was paved, and our Odyssey easily made it to the cabin each night after our Smoky Mountain excursions. Each evening the fireflies and the birds were the only sounds, with occasional thunder off in the distance from the afternoon thunderstorms (we visited in June). The family enjoyed eating dinner on the deck overlooking the Tuckasegee River. Cyndi has taken special care to make you feel at home in her home. The atmosphere was great, the rooms were great, and the location can not be beat. Cyndi's directions to the cabin were impeccable, and the people in the area were very inviting. In 6 days, we only saw 2 other people on the mountain, and one of those was on the morning we left. If you want a quiet place, with a great view of the Smokys and the Tuckasegee river, then this is the place for you. Our family is looking forward to coming back and visiting the cabin in the future. If you are considering staying on the NC side of the Smokys, this cabin is the place to stay.
My family decided to ride the Polar Express in Bryson City this year, and found this very convenient cabin nearby. However, it was tucked away high up in the mountains so that you have the most beautiful view of the mountains and the Tuckaseegee River. You can actually hear the river rolling beneath you from the deck! The cabin itself offered everything we needed from a wood burning fireplace, an adult and a kid game room, and three private bedroom areas. The great room living and dining area and open kitchen allowed us to be able to have fun as a group, while the three levels let us get away to our own private spaces when we needed. It was spotlessly cleaned and maintained. Also, the quaint "forest themed" decorations added to the charm. We loved it so much, we are talking about possibly coming back again when the weather is warm to enjoy the awesome wrap-around deck more!
I cannot say enough about this house. It was possibly the best vacation rental choice we've ever made. I booked it for the views, but we ended up loving the actual house even more. We even asked Cyndi if we could add a night and changed our trip to be able relax in the cabin longer. And honestly it felt more like someone's main home more than a cabin. Down to the smallest touches it just felt like a place someone made nice for themselves, not as much to impress vacationers. We really liked that aspect. I remember reading reviews saying it was spotless, and it really was. I already want to go back, despite it being a 12 hour drive from Pennsylvania.
I'll also point out that we stayed here to be in proximity to Great Smoky Mountain National Park for the first time, and I chose this area south of the park kind of as a lucky guess that things might be less touristy and congested than Gatlinburg. I had no idea what I'd like, but after driving through the towns bordering the park, I am so glad Bryson City was our hub rather than those commercialized tourist traps. Driving through Cherokee and seeing all of that hokey stuff made me really appreciate how lucky my choice was to stay out of all of that. So if you like a small, charming, laid back town that hasn't been taken over by things catering to tourists, Bryson City is a great choice, and you can't beat this house if you don't mind being 10 minutes from town in exchange for breathtaking views, complete privacy, and a scenic short drive.

More activities, shopping and restaurants are only 30 minutes away in Cherokee, NC, home of Harrah's Casino. Hip and artsy Asheville is less than an hour away. Gatlinburg anyone? Again, just an hour away. Pigeon Forge is only 1 hour 15 minutes.
Whatever you decide to do, make room in your schedule for watching sunrise from the deck. Do it once and you'll be hooked. There's no better way to start a day in the mountains. We like to bracket our days by starting with a cup of coffee on the deck and returning home to watch the sky darken over the river while we cook on the grill and eat on the picnic table on the deck. River rafting, scenic drives to the many waterfalls in the area, day trips to other towns, enjoying local music and art festivals -- there's so much to do yet sometimes, we don't even want to leave the private retreat of No Worries.
