About Caryn Self-Sullivan
Virginia is for Lovers and our #LoveVA Photo Spot on the beach highlights our favorite things: Ospreys, Rockfish, Crabs, Oysters, Sandy Beaches, and Golf Carts! Whether you are traveling with your family, soul mate, best friend, sister, daughter, or your dog, you are welcome to stay in my little cottage. I am, and have been, many "things" in my life, including mother, grandmother, Realtor, Marine Biologist, Animal Behaviorist, and Professor. Today I am self-employed, working mostly with dogs and their people in the Northern Neck and Greater Fredericksburg areas. I have lived and traveled the world, but am blessed to call Colonial Beach my "forever home." My family has owned property here for over 30 years and I've spent my summers here since I was a young child. Today, I live in Carin Cottage, my family's beach cottage just around the corner from Cairn Cottage II. Cairn Cottage II used to belong to my Mom so when it came on the market a few months ago, I knew it would make the perfect vacation rental property for me. I grew up in nearby Fredericksburg, located between the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers. There are few places left in the USA like Colonial Beach. We are a golf cart and bicycle community with all the amenities of a small town including our own Independent School System, Police Department, Fire & Rescue Squads. Where else can you and your children or grandchildren bicycle from one end of town to the other safely? We are proud of our diversity and the fact that we can all enjoy Colonial Beach "Our Way."

Even better than the pictures!
We loved staying at Cairn Cottage in Colonial Beach. Wonderfully quaint, cozy and quiet neighborhood where you can see the Potomac from the kitchen windows! Colonial Beach is a vibrant little gem in the Northern Neck area of Virginia---and we want to keep it that way for everyone! Caryn is so kind and helpful--you'll love your stay in her clean but comfortable cottage!
Thanks for the great review Lolah! Look forward to seeing you again, soon.
The cottage was a lovely, perfect little get-away. Exactly as advertised!
Colonial Beach is the perfect place to unwind, kick back & relax! Cairn Cottage II just added to that ambiance. It was fully supplied with every amenity you needed for a vacation. Very clean & just down right cute! Highly recommended!
Excellent in every way.
Every thing was exactly as the lady said it would be. I did not get address when I left home. I called when I was about 30 minutes away & she answered phone right away. Never once did I go to voice mail in the times I called her.
I would highly recommend this place for up to 4 people.
We were able to wash all our clothes in the small washer & dryer provided by the owner & go home with all clean clothes in our bags.
The cottage is in a very quiet neighborhood & very close to restaurants & shops.
If you need exercise about a mile walk one way will get you anything you need.
I am a country hillbilly from WV & I ate breakfast every day at the 4 Seasons restaurant.
(Mainly biscuits & gravy).
Ther are other restaurants. My son ate with me & my daughter & wife checked the other restaurants out.
Everyone who visits Colonial Beach must try the Maryland style steamed crabs. We purchased 7 dozen at the Shady Lane seafood retailer that you pass coming into Colonial Beach from route 301. We ate in the cottage. What we had left over we took home.
I can find nothing to complain about except I wish we could have stayed longer & under better circumstances (My wife's mother passed away is reason for the this trip). You get Microwave, full size refrigerator, Stove, toaster over & all utensils you need for cooking if that's what you want to do. The place was just amazing. A whole lot better & price competitive with the Hotels in Dahlgren, I could go on & on but I know its time to stop.

Clean, comfortable, quaint, quiet!
We enjoyed staying at Cairn Cottage II. Caryn was the perfect host, available when needed, but not intrusive. The cottage provided a much needed place to relax and unwind after a month of travel. Enjoyed our day trips to D.C. and to George Washington's Birthplace.
Thanks Sandy! Hope your trip home was good.
