My husband and I visited the Downtown Gem in Belfast, Maine for a long weekend. We arrived on a Friday and stayed through Monday. We've never been this far north in Maine and wanted to explore more of the state. We arrived in the studio apartment to find a well appointed space with comfortable bed, air-con, window fan, seating area, full bath with shower, and full equipped kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator, coffee maker and tea kettle. We were literally a minute walk from downtown Belfast. The town itself has great restaurants and shops, is totally walkable, and with friendly local residents. We even drove a few minutes to the other side of the river to enjoy delicious lobster at Young's Lobster Pound on the river. We inadvertently timed our visit to arrive during Harbor Fest which was a lot of fun. There was live music, a skiff building competition, boat races, food vendors and arts & crafts vendors. We also spent one day hiking in Acadia National Park which is a 1 hr. and 15 min. drive. Overall, we had a perfect stay. We highly recommend this lovely place to anyone interested in visiting Belfast, ME and the surrounding area. We'd definitely come back most likely in the fall to take in the change of seasons. Thanks to Lucy and John for making our stay so enjoyable!
The apartment is very nice - private, clean, comfortable and well maintained. The owners are very responsive and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. They even have made arrangements for off street parking. It's just a short walk to everything in town. The walk along the waterfront is especially nice and there are restaurants to satisfy everyone.
Thank you so much, Lucy and John, for such a wonderfully appointed, clean, and convenient apartment! It's on the second floor or an historic and and quiet building. Even though we're on Main Street, there was minimal traffic noise.
We walked everyday to the downtown and explored a few different places to eat and shop. The communication prior to arrival was so thorough, we didn't even need to ask further questions. We found everything we needed to be perfectly in order. I really appreciated the friendly tone and welcoming apartment.
If you have any other properties for more people, we would definitely want to rent from you again!
Very thoughtful attention to details in this charming studio apartment. Kitchen and bathroom are fully stocked. Books, games, wifi and a radio were all the entertainment we needed. Fantastic bakery right next door, and the charming town of Belfast at our feet. I hope we get to come back next year! Could have used an extra key, trading one back and forth between 2 people was tricky but maybe we should have asked. Owner was very communicative.
Paul and I arrived at Belfast to this studio after a long 7.5 hr drive. The studio was just as we expected and the directions Lucy provided on how to get in were very clear. A quiet house, clean and with many amenities made our stay at this studio great. Walking distance to many stores and eating establishments. Would recommend this studio to others.
There's so much to see and do in Belfast: Visit the many charming shops and galleries; Stroll along the waterfront or hike on nearby trails; Reward yourself with delicious food and drink from the many restaurants or pubs; Take a boat tour; Attend one or more of Belfast's festivals, concerts or plays held regularly downtown; Join a Friday night Artwalk or Thursday night street dance; Purchase fresh, local produce and other goodies at one of the many Farmer's markets in or near town; Join in July's Celtic Festival or October's Pie and Story Festival. Belfast offers destinations and experiences for people of all ages and interests. According to Downeast Magazine, December 2012, Belfast is the 'Coolest Little City in Maine.'
