We were a party of four senior couples (siblings and spouses) scattered from Manitoba to Ohio, and the house accommodated us just right. Very private! We have been trying to keep connected by doing yearly vacation week together. This house was a very good choice!
Lake Superior was finicky as usual so I only got to get out on the water with my own kayak for two short periods. Had it been better we would have all gotten out there using the house kayaks also. The Marlette Bay where this house is, and the Havilland Bay were calmer though. I caught one small mouth bass of great size. She was heavy laden with eggs, but the way she grabbed the bait caused terminal damage, so I had to keep her. Felt bad.
No issues at all with the landlord, she called the afternoon of our arrival to field any questions and also to give pointers to things. Due to the seasonal rains we were house bound, but we were prepared for that, plus there were boards games in the house. We loved our long walks down the lonely roads, and even surveyed a few "for sale" properties.
Overall I would highly recommend this site, and am keeping it in my saved location list.
Perfect for big family
We had an awesome time getting away from the city. Couldn't have picked a better place for our family of 8 adults and 1 toddler. Took the kayaks out a handful of times, enjoyed the sunrise each day from the deck, and even (faintly) saw the northern lights during our campfire. The kiddo loved the slide and made good use of the toys, and the grownups had fun with the massive DVD collection. My mum and sis felt so at home here that they baked pies on a rainy afternoon. Having two bathrooms was perfect and the sunken dining room gave us a place to eat and play board games while the little guy went to sleep. Lyn was very responsive, and we all had a fabulous time.
The property on Lake Superior was beautiful. This was a wonderful place to relax, kayak, and watch the wildlife.
My family had a great time in this gorgeous cottage getaway. My son spent the entire week playing on the beach. Great condition!
We were 5 adults and 3 small children and the cottage was perfect for us. It is completely equipped both inside and out (kayaks and paddle boat with life jackets) and ideally suited for kids (the lawns are flat for play, the children made frequent use of the swings and slides, and the water was shallow). A perfect stay-thanks Lyn!
Beautiful place to appreciate peace and quiet (and the stars, oh the stars!)
It's tough to get a workaholic to take a vacation, but I can say that this one had one of the quietest, stress free, and just about work-less weeks ever. The house was perfect for that, having all the amenities of home - all those things that you need in the kitchen (but always wonder if you will need to head out to get when you reach your vacation destination) like spices, condiments, utensils. An impressive library - tons of DVDs (which we didn't need too much because the weather was so great and looking up at the Milky Way watching for satellites filled many of the nights), books to read and games to play. And the great outdoors - kayaking out at night to watch the sunset over Lake Superior on the last night of our stay will be one of those vacation memories that will last forever. We headed out to Pancake Bay (where we met a very friendly park warden), and also enjoyed hiking at Lake Superior Provincial Park - a quintessential Group of Seven setting.
And then there was Lyn - even from across the country, she made us feel welcome and cared for. Thanks for letting us borrow your place!
Private beach has boat ramp (for light boats) and safe quiet protected beach for swimming, boating, jet-skiing, kayaking and canoeing. Communal raft available for swimmers. Downhill and cross-country skiing nearby. Nearby are several nature sites and public parks (including many sandy beaches), art work & Agawa (First Nations) pictographs to visit
