About Michelle Melgares
My name is Michelle and I own CrashPad - a vacation rental management company serving Grand Junction, Fruita and Palisade, Colorado. I grew up in the area and feel very fortunate to get to call it home. I love cycling and want to share the great things our valley has to offer with the world. If you can do it outdoors, you can do it within 45 minutes of any home we manage. Skiing and wine country tourism too! A few notes about the owner: Charlie grew up in Western Colorado, his wife on the Great Lakes. When it came time to retire they loved both regions too much to choose just one, so they built this house as a winter getaway. It reflects their active interests (biking, golf, hiking) and contemplative pursuits (reading and writing). The landscape here inspired Charlie's recent novel, MONUMENT ROAD.
Michelle Melgares purchased this House in 2006
Why Michelle Melgares chose Grand Junction
In 1999 with another family member, the owners bought a sizable stretch of property that abuts the Bangs Canyon Recreation Area with its extensive trail system. They worked with a local architect to take advantage of the site's scenic prospects while respecting others' views and leaving a modest footprint in the fragile desert. The adjoining public lands and large private lots create a feeling of privacy. We can be off by ourselves on trails within a minute, reach the grocery store in five and get downtown on a bike in 25. Of all the great views we could have highlighted with the name, we chose Echo Canyon, visible out our south windows and reachable in 45 minutes on foot or by an intermediate mountain biker. It represents the many other parts of the landscape accessible here but also off the beaten path.
What makes this House unique
The house was designed and built from scratch and it reflects the owners lifestyle and love for this remarkable landscape. (Their brother-in-law calls its architectural style 'Frank Lloyd Left.') They have decided to share it with others who share a love for the outdoors and the indoors, and for peace and quiet. (They lived here for years before deciding to bring in the TVs!)

This property was amazing and a great location. We enjoyed the home and the Monument between wedding activities for our son’s wedding. Thank you!
Well stocked and very clean. Excellent location-hiking right out your door. Awesome place to stay.
Had a great time in a wonderful home. Close to town and hiking trails. Enjoyed the broad vistas and views from the house. very comfortable living. Will definitely return. Recommend highly.
Quiet, Peaceful Retreat w/ Beautiful Views
We loved our short stay here - and were surprised at how very quiet and tranquil the house is, even though there are other houses scattered in the area and it is near the entrance to the Monument. The house is essentially one story** with two large bedrooms on the main floor, beautiful views out every picture window and patios strategically placed in every direction so you choose sun, shade or a breeze (** Note: there is a staircase to a loft style 3rd bedroom and study area that has great panoramic views).
We appreciated the easy, open concept layout with the kitchen open to the dining area and generous seating areas. An office area is tucked away behind the kitchen (with a laser printer so we had no need to take our own) and a separate TV room/gym area is off to the side giving access to the second bedroom. The large master bedroom suite has a large walk-in closet with plenty of storage area. Three lovely, modern bathrooms on the main floor (all with walk-in showers) make it convenient for families.
A few ideas for your stay: There are all the dishes and utensils you need, along with a nice spice cabinet and a few baking essentials (but bring your own condiments, teas, oils and cooking basics). Also, we had a nice breeze every evening that helped cool the house and the windows are strategically placed to allow you to catch the breeze but avoid the wind gusts. Do keep the screen doors closed to avoid the local wildlife from coming indoors. And since it is in the country, it takes a few seconds for the cable shows and Netflix to load up - but that is standard for rural living.
Hope you enjoy the house as much as we did.
Candy! Thank you for your kind words and your great review of the Echo Canyon Retreat! We look forward to your return!
