After following a long beautiful wooded drive you will arrive at our three-story lake house overlooking pristine Starvation Lake. Step onto our covered porch and begin your relaxing vacation. Upon entering you will find yourself in a tree house setting, bright open floor plan, wood ceilings and a wall of windows overlooking beautiful Starvation Lake. This level includes a private bedroom with a king size bed, closets and a bathroom with a tub/shower. Down the hall a newly renovated, fully outfitted kitchen with stainless steel appliances and peninsula for eating awaits you. Or, you can dine at our large table overlooking the lake. Better about dining al fresco on the first floor deck with spectacular views. A homey living room complete with a wood burning fireplace, 42' flat screen TV, including cable, makes the first level a place you'll never want to leave.

Want some solitude? Choose the upstairs master bedroom, with a king size bed and private balcony overlooking the lake. Imagine yourself waking up to a serene view of the sun rising over the lake, while enjoying a cup of coffee from your in-room coffee pot. This floor also has a bedroom with a double bed and bathroom with a shower.

If you prefer the feel of the North, head down to our walkout level. You will find a rustic living room, bedroom with two full-sized beds, laundry, and bathroom with large shower. Walk out the sliding glass door onto our 1,800 square foot, three-level deck which leads to the beach and dock. This area offers plenty of space for family and friends to chat, read, eat, play, nap, relax and enjoy the views.

For your convenience we have a washer and dryer, baby pack-n-play, high chair, life jackets, beach towels, chairs and sand toys, on site.

Starvation Lake is a spring fed all-sports lake. Motorized crafts are allowed from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm. This give you plenty of time to play on the water and still sleep in or enjoy the peacefulness of the woods. Public access is located at the North end of the lake for easy launching of your boat or jet skis. Swim in the crystal clear lake; sun bathe or fish for brown trout (stocked annually by the DNR) off our 30' dock. At night sit around the fire pit and enjoy s'mores while gazing at the clear star-filled skies.

We are just minutes from the trails and seasonal roads where you can ride your dirt bikes and 4-wheelers.

Are cities and great food your thing? We are centrally located between Bellaire/Shanty Creek, Lakes of the North, Boyne, Gaylord, Traverse City and Petoskey; you can even plan a day trip to Macinaw Island. Throughout the year, there are a variety of festivals, fairs and farmers markets in the area for you to enjoy.

Our lake house is the perfect place for your peaceful get away. Just pack your bags and let your vacation begin.

About Chris

We bought this lake house when we both had busy careers and two teenage children. It provided us the perfect spot for family gatherings or a peaceful romantic getaway. Now we are both retired and the children are grown and moved away. This special place does not get used as often so we thought it was a great time to share it with other families to enjoy and make wonderful memories.

Chris purchased this house in 1999

Why Chris chose Mancelona

This property was perfect for us because of the proximity to the snowmobile trails in winter and the quiet crystal clear lake in the summer. You are surrounded by nature, but can be in multiple towns within an hour.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with this property the minute we drove into the long wooded driveway and saw the view of the lake. This lake is not well know but is quiet, beautiful and clean. Every season has something special to offer its visitors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you. We truly enjoyed our stay at your beautiful home. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to have a relaxing vacation with our grandchildren. The house was perfect. We hope to return again.

Great house ! Great Lake

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our week At Cottage Wood. The house is awesome. It has all the needed items in the kitchen and space for a family vacation. We had our grandchildren visiting from over seas and had many things to do with them at the house. We enjoyed kayaking, fishing off the dock and row boat. Swimming was wonderful. Starvation Lake is clear and clean. Perfect for swimming. The fire pit was enjoyed a few nights while on other nights we stayed in and enjoying playing family games or a movie from their immense selection of DVDS. The WIFI connection was perfect. The house is located in perfect place that allowed us to go to Elk Rapids at enjoy lunch at Pearls. We also made a trip to Shorts Brewery. There is much deck space to enjoy being outside as much as possible. We will be planning another stay there in the future.

We enjoyed our time at Starvation immensely. The place was well equipped for kids of all ages and the adults had no complaints either. I would recommend people to stay here.

Perfect vacation week!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The home is outstanding. More than enough room for myself, husband, and six teenage children! Everything was clean and welcoming. My very picky kids were asking me to book it again for next year two days into our vacation. The lake is wonderful!!!! We enjoyed our boat, kayaking, and fishing. The wifi at the house works great(very big deal for my kids). I honestly can't think of one negative thing to say! We will be back next year!!!!
