This level includes a private bedroom with a king size bed, closets and a bathroom with a tub/shower. Down the hall a newly renovated, fully outfitted kitchen with stainless steel appliances and peninsula for eating awaits you. Or, you can dine at our large table overlooking the lake. Better about dining al fresco on the first floor deck with spectacular views. A homey living room complete with a wood burning fireplace, 42' flat screen TV, including cable, makes the first level a place you'll never want to leave.

Want some solitude? Choose the upstairs master bedroom, with a king size bed and private balcony overlooking the lake. Imagine yourself waking up to a serene view of the sun rising over the lake, while enjoying a cup of coffee from your in-room coffee pot. Walk out the sliding glass door onto our 1,800 square foot, three-level deck which leads to the beach and dock. For your convenience we have a washer and dryer, baby pack-n-play, high chair, life jackets, beach towels, chairs and sand toys, on site.

Starvation Lake is a spring fed all-sports lake. Motorized crafts are allowed from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm. This give you plenty of time to play on the water and still sleep in or enjoy the peacefulness of the woods. Public access is located at the North end of the lake for easy launching of your boat or jet skis. Swim in the crystal clear lake; sun bathe or fish for brown trout (stocked annually by the DNR) off our 30' dock. At night sit around the fire pit and enjoy s'mores while gazing at the clear star-filled skies.

We are just minutes from the trails and seasonal roads where you can ride your dirt bikes and 4-wheelers.

Are cities and great food your thing? We are centrally located between Bellaire/Shanty Creek, Lakes of the North, Boyne, Gaylord, Traverse City and Petoskey; you can even plan a day trip to Macinaw Island. Throughout the year, there are a variety of festivals, fairs and farmers markets in the area for you to enjoy.

Our lake house is the perfect place for your peaceful get away. Just pack your bags and let your vacation begin.

About Chris

We bought this lake house when we both had busy careers and two teenage children. It provided us the perfect spot for family gatherings or a peaceful romantic getaway. Now we are both retired and the children are grown and moved away. This special place does not get used as often so we thought it was a great time to share it with other families to enjoy and make wonderful memories.

Chris purchased this house in 1999

Why Chris chose Northwest

This property was perfect for us because of the proximity to the snowmobile trails in winter and the quiet crystal clear lake in the summer. You are surrounded by nature, but can be in multiple towns within an hour.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with this property the minute we drove into the long wooded driveway and saw the view of the lake. This lake is not well know but is quiet, beautiful and clean. Every season has something special to offer its visitors.

Perfect vacation week!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The home is outstanding. More than enough room for myself, husband, and six teenage children! Everything was clean and welcoming. My very picky kids were asking me to book it again for next year two days into our vacation. The lake is wonderful!!!! We enjoyed our boat, kayaking, and fishing. The wifi at the house works great(very big deal for my kids). I honestly can't think of one negative thing to say! We will be back next year!!!!

Cottagewood is highly recommended.

  • 5 of 5

Our families, grandparents, children and grandchildren had a very enjoyable stay at Cottagewood. The layout of this home was very nice with three floors containing,

four bedrooms, three bathrooms and two .living areas. All had a good time on the

lake. Grandkids loved playing in the lake around the dock. The kayaks provided

were used every day. One afternoon while kayaking on the lake, we loved seeing

two common loons diving and disappearing under water for what seemed like

a long time. It was very pleasant to sit and eat on the main floor balcony.

There was ample room for all of us (5 adults and 4 children ages 6 - 10) and we appreciated the many amenities including: cable TV, two flat screen TV's, DVD's, board games and wireless internet access. Starvation Lake was very quiet and peaceful during our stay. In addition to enjoying Starvation Lake, we took day trips to Fisherman's Island State Park (Charlevoix); Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore; Higgins Lake State Park; St. Ignace/Mackinaw City; and wineries on Leelanau and Mission Peninsulas. And, of course, one evening we had a campfire and s'mores. I highly recommend this rental.

Our group enjoyed every minute of our stay. The property has all you could want from the expansive deck to the ample kitchen to the secluded area. We plan to make this an annual trip.

This property was beautiful, peaceful and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

Our family getaway included 7 adults and 3 children. This home has 3 floors, each with a deck, a bathroom and a living room on the lower 2 floors. Even with 10 of us, we had plenty of room.

Everything was clean, organized and well stocked.

The kitchen had the basics so that we were able to easily fix meals.

The 2 kayaks and the rowboat were used every day! There was fishing and floating and swimming and minnow catching and snorkeling. We had campfires, ate s'mores, relaxed on the comfy chairs and chaises on the decks.

It was a wonderful vacation!

The owners and the caretaker went out of their way to ensure our visit was a good one.

The security deposit was promptly returned.

All ten of us give this home a huge thumb's up!
