About Melinda Reach
Jean-Paul and Melinda have owned the house since 1991. For many years they ran the popular 'Jean-Paul's Bistro' from this location. Since closing the restaurant, they have fully renovated the house for luxury living. They are now living in France for a good part of each year, dividing their time between Blue Hill and Villefranche sur Mer.
Melinda Reach purchased this House in 1991
Why Melinda Reach chose Blue Hill
The location was selected for unique setting, ocean-front views in the middle of our small, charming village.
What makes this House unique
We have been able to create an oasis in the village, with magnificent gardens and views, right in the center of everything. Each bedroom suite has complete privacy with its own modern bathroom, luxury linens, beautiful antique furniture and paintings from renowned artists. The house offers two living rooms, a large modern kitchen and formal dining room, along with a screened porch.

The home was beautiful and well equipped. It worked well for the 9 of us. Jean-Paul was helpful, friendly. The location was a great plus.
Blue Hill Beauty
If you are looking for a simply gorgeous home with spectacular views, beautiful perennial gardens, interesting artwork, wonderful grounds and screened porch, comfort and the most amazing kitchen, then look no farther. We have rented many homes over the years and this one ranks at the top for all of its attention to detail down to the monogrammed towels in all of the bathrooms. It is centrally located in downtown Blue Hill on Main Street , which does tend to be loud at times, but the convenience to all of the local shops is great. There is even an avant garde special coffee shop (Bucklyn Coffee) two doors down that we visited daily for some of the best cold brew our gang has ever tasted. Jean-Paul and Melinda live on the property and are ready to offer suggestions, a friendly good morning greeting and tend to the house and gardens as needed. We loved our week here and you will too. This house is a rare gem!!!!!
Thanks you for the review. We are so glad that you loved our home, and look forward to having you and your lovely family back with us again for another great week of sailing.
Charming -beautiful view-convenient to everything
Our hosts were so helpful -even making sure we had a clean new crib for our grandbaby. Great setup for gathering in large family room or eating on patio overlooking harbor. Beds were very comfortable with each room decorated in a special way. Felt quite French.
Hosts great at suggesting restaurants, hikes and things to do.
Dear Bill and Chris,
Thank you for your kind review. Jean-Paul and I enjoyed having you stay with us and hope to have you back with us.
Wonderful stay--Our second straight year!!
We returned this year for a family gathering with our children and two grandsons-what else can we say?. We are very fond of Melinda and Jean-Paul (and Frankie-the poodle). All of the other reviews are accurate--similar to our review last year. This year we visited the Maine Maritime Academy in Castine-a wonderful upscale town. We enjoyed lunch at a restaurant on the water in the harbor area. We also had lobsters in Surry at Perrys Lobster Shack and our entire group dined at the end of the pier--get reservations. Our grandsons took a half day fishing trip with Eggemogin Guide Service-near Deer Isle- so we prepared fresh pollock fish for dinner. We love the kitchen!! We ordered homemade blueberry pies from Merrill and Hinckley and had them waiting for us when we arrived.
Great vacation in a lovely home. Jean-Paul and Melinda will make sure everything is perfect.
What a lovely home, garden, view, and location. The hosts Jean Paul and Melinda were so accommodating and hospitable, and made sure our family was well taken care of. The house is well appointed (a chef-worthy kitchen), spacious, and comfortable. It's so convenient to everything in town, and less than an hour drive to Acadia or any number of scenic port towns. Such a memorable spot!
Jean-paul and I are very happy that you had a marvelous time in our home. We will look forward to having you back again!
Beautiful home and property!
We had a great stay at the Jean-Paul House July 9 - 16, 2017! The property is absolutely gorgeous - waterfront, beautiful gardens, ample outdoor seating, charcoal grill, art statues! The house was perfect for our family of 9. The kitchen is very well suited for entertaining a group of 10+ and cooking at home (well stocked with cookware, spices, plenty of dishware, 2 dishwashers!!!). There are 5 bedrooms, each with their own special flair. The common areas are spacious and there is plenty of seating in each room. I absolutely loved the art throughout the house and yard. I would discover a new piece daily! The owners obviously take great pride in their property and it is meticulously clean and well maintained. The owner, Melinda was fantastic! She was always available for help and advice. She has great customer service - very prompt to reply to emails over the course of the 9 months that passed between booking and our stay! I would definitely recommend this property! Very relaxing family vacation! I am missing it already! Thank you!
