This home away from home is an oasis for the traveller that is passing through the capitol region or staying over an extended contract or holiday while commuting through the area. The home offers two spacious rooms with queen size beds and two smaller children/teen size rooms with single beds. The home has a pull out coach in the living room, a dinning room table that seats 6 to 8 in a cozy setting. The house has a gas stove and double oven that is adequate for quick cooking meals such as breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bathrooms both offer a stand up shower while one offers a tub. The backyard boasts over 20 fruit trees including grapefruit, limes, oranges, pears, and others as the season permits. The home was rebuilt in the late 1950's in a neighborhood of eclectic homes. As East Sacramento is a trend setting area, you will hear the light hum of the highway in the background at the same time as chickens clucking next door while you drink your cafe on the back patio. The home is best used for a touch base place space or place to relax between site seeing trips or office meetings. The master bedroom that has a crib and a loft bed is also available for an additional fee and deposit. Lastly, we are open to hosting rehearsal dinners for weddings or other occasions. Please ask about our visual and performing artists as well as military and veteran's family discounts.
While receiving my Doctorate in Educational leadership from the University of Southern California (Fight on Trojans!!) and working as a visual and performing arts administrator in the local school district, my husband and I purchased our home in Sacramento. We have been living at the house over the past several years while I work on contracts with the arts and school programs. My husband who was retired and an internationally known trumpet player enjoyed the local shops and restaurants while I was working working at the local schools with students and teachers. Our home in Sacramento has since assisted me with raising our three children and our new addition. At this time, we are currently working on contracts outside of the country and we have decided to list our second 'home away from home' on this website.
Dr. Sherilene M. Chycoski purchased this house in 2004
We purchased this property as it has a fantastic central location which is close to all our activities which include the Community Center Theatre, Wells Fargo Pavillion, Capitol Building, Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, Crocker Art Museum, Cal State Fair and Cal Expo as well as restaurants, shopping and great places for working in the fabulous 40s.
The large backyard with the double lot is what made us fall in love with this property. Who would of thought that you could find over 20 fruit trees in the middle of the city. While our guests and friends stay, we ask them to check and make sure that the sprinklers are working as the summers can get pretty hot in the capitol region.
We wanted to thank the owner and the professional cleaning staff for a great stay at your place while we were attending festivities. We appreciate your discount to veterans and appreciate that the owner (a veteran herself) understands the needs of our family accomodations. We were astounded to see that the home could accomodate so many of our party with plates, silverware, folding chairs and tables as well as our ability to use the extra linens and matresses to use on the floor. The backyard is fabulous as well as closeness to amenities such as Trader Joes, The Chocolate Fish (great coffee place), restaurants and stores. In remembrance of all those who passed for our freedom...thanks so much and as a USC Trojan...I say back to you "Fight On!!"
This home should not be offered as a home to rent to guests. The day before our arrival we were informed that there was construction taking place next door, so we were awakened at 6:45 a.m. We needed to enter by the side door because the front door lock was not working. The back bedroom has a very dangerous , not up to code, two steps down to the room to a very uncomfortable bed with smelly pillows. The french doors were very difficult to lock. The linens on a few of the beds were marked with pen and worn. The towels were old and mismatched. The potholders were dirty. Plyers were needed to turn on/off the fan above the gas stove that needed matches to light. There are notes throughout the house explaining the things that needed to be done to make things work. The kitchen drawers were disorganized, dirty , some off the runners with handles not completely attached. We bought ice to put in the freezer only to discover a wet floor in the morning because the freezer was not working. It is one thing if a person chooses to live this way but we did not expect to pay good money to stay in a place that has the problems mentioned plus more.
I spoke with the landlady about these issues after the first night. She was not responsive to our concerns stating that we were "staying in her home." She apparently does not feel the need to make things nice for paying guests. When asked what I wanted her to do about my complaints I said I wanted part of our payment refunded, to which she said no. She went on to offer us a discount if we wanted to stay there again. She clearly missed the point ! We would never want to stay there again, nor should anyone be encouraged to rent from her until she cleans the place up. DO NOT RENT THIS HOUSE if cleanliness, working locks and working appliances are important to you.
Stayed with my 3 grandchildren, son, daughter in law, mother in law, and husband. Has ton of space to move about. Extremely kid friendly. Good neighborhood close to shopping. Had issues with freezer but owner helpful. Overall wonderful experience
When I first parked my car I thought this is a small house. But when I opened the door it was huge! My family loved the home especially the big back yard and fresh fruit from the trees. We had spices and condiments left from previous guests to enjoy as well as a couple of beers and some other snacks. This was the best place I have stayed in North America on any trips I have been on in this continent. The house was a 10 min walk from 3 fast food places a couple of smaller restaurants and more. The grocery store closed at 1 am everyday. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and always available to answer any questions. I will definitely recommend this place to others and stay there for all my future trips to Sacramento.
This home is just lovely. It's actually quite large, on a nicely sized lot with a peaceful backyard. My kids basically existed on the swings. There are also tons of toys for the kids, which we appreciated. We love the cute coffee shop you can easily walk to at the end of the street (a two minute walk) and we like that there is a crib in the master and a changing table. Convenience is key - just minutes from the heart of downtown and tons of restaurants and shops. We've stayed here twice now, and definitely think of it as "our" other home! Can't wait to be back. =)
The Urban Country Setting house was perfect for what our work group needed. The proximity to downtown was pretty good. Great quiet neighborhood with lots of nice retail near by. House was spacious and clean.
We spent the weekend in Sacramento and this was the perfect house for my family - 4 adults and 1 toddler. There were a lot of toys for my son to play with and he had a great time running up and down the long hallway. There was even a play structure in the backyard! We had more than enough room for the adults and we were close to restaurants and grocery stores. If we head up to Sacramento again, I would try to stay here again.
This urban rustic home away from home is nestled on the edge of the fabulous 40's in East Sacramento that features a deep lot with over 20 fruit trees. The home is located steps from the light rail which offers easy no hassle access to the legislature and capitol buildings as well as the various medical centers including UC Davis Medical Center, Sutter and Mercy. The home is perfect for families with young children, young traveling couples, families with growing teens as well as couples or visitors visiting the capitol region. The fantastic location is close to popular restaurants as well as shopping at Trader Joes for those last minute items.
