The house was perfect size for a group of 8 adults, 2 young children.
The outside area was wonderful, the pool as well as the surrounding patio and covered patio. The house was roomy, air conditioned and each bedroom had it's own ensuite. It was very nice having the outside laundry room.
The only issue we had, was the Wi-Fi never did work. There was a line issue before our arrival and it seems fixes are slower in CR and maybe to be expected.
We were grateful for renting a 4wd and recommend Waze for driving directions in CR.
Just an fyi I was able to receive text messages from Tiffany from the rental agency but she was not receiving my replies. It was awesome having only a 4 minute walk to the beach. The beach was great and the sunsets were spectacular.
We felt safe and had no security issues but adhered to lock up instructions for at night or while away. We found it easier to keep the front door locked other than just to unload on arrival and load upon departure.
Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer and I would love to be to return again.
“We were robbed”
For most of our group, this would be the first time we were traveling to Costa Rica. We wanted a house with enough bedrooms for everyone, a pool and to be close to the beach. This house was perfect in that respect although not new
The drive on the road to get to the house is rough to say the least. One of the best amenities is that each bedroom has its own bathroom. most of our time at the house sitting by the pool or at the table on the back patio. We put most of our important things and money in the safe on the first night and hid our other valuables since we knew that this was a tourist house and that it had been targeted before. We felt safe since all the doors and windows had gates on them that were locked so that they couldn’t be picked. We still set the alarm especially in the beginning of the trip. But here’s our story and why I decided to reviee
While out to dinner, we were broken into. They bent gate and picked locks. Very easy to pick locks . We were shown that after the break in by someone sent to check locks.
Be advised don’t trust locks and be careful of safe. It broke when we were there so not available.
We would like to express how upset that the house had been burgled during this rental. Security is something we take very seriously. Unfortunately, petty theft is an issue throughout the Americas and Nosara is not immune. We would also like to make the following points to clarify this review.
The roads to and in/around Nosara are gravel and can be very bumpy in parts. All travel books note that there are many roads such as ours throughout Costa Rica and to take time driving, allowing for enjoyment of the scenery. Currently, the Costa Rica government is working on paving a large section of the highway between Nosara and Garza.
In regards to the burglary, the locks that had been tampered with are deadbolt locks (trusted & used in North America). Both the security company and the locksmith reviewed the locks after the burglary. They both concluded by how the locks were broken into, that the burglars were professionals. The locksmith also confirmed that the sliding door lock on the main house was not locked when the burglary happened. It was noticed that night by the property manager that the bracing post which is additional security for the sliding door was not engaged (the door does not open when this is used). Also to note was that the monitored security system was not activated when they left the house to go to dinner. The renters were advised at their check in orientation to use the monitored security system every time they left. This non-activation of the alarm was confirmed both by the person of this group that was put in charge of setting it as well as the alarm company when a review of the system was performed.
The large safe worked well for all of the families before these guests and we were advised of the safe dial not working properly during this rental. Immediately after they reported the problem a locksmith was sent to the house and the parts needed for the repair had to be specially ordered from outside of Costa Rica (we could not find them within the country). The parts have since been installed and the safe is fully functioning.
Please note that the “hiding spots” mentioned in the review were putting a pillow over a laptop computer that was on top the living room coffee table which could be seen from the window, as well as in the bedside table drawers. A 24 hour security guard was provided for them for the balance of their rental so that they could continue with their vacation knowing there would be someone at the house the entire time.
Perfect house for a large family or two, convenient location
Spent a week at Casa das Palmas with another family over Easter break. There were 10 of us in all and the house worked extremely well for us. The pool was wonderful, the beach is close by (and beautiful), and the house itself was comfortable and clean. We had most of our meals at the house, except for a few dinners, which we enjoyed at nearby restaurants. Several questions came up over the course of the week and the owner's rep was extremely responsive to each and every one of them. Highly recommend! Would definitely return!
First time to Costa Rica
We are a family of 6 from Southern California and lured to Costa Rica for the surf/yoga lifestyle of Nosara. We only had word of mouth and internet searches/reviews to book our trip. First of all, the property manager - Tiffany - is awesome. She is from Canada and speaks perfect English. Before our trip, we connected by email and she gave us better directions to Nosara than Google maps. She met us on the property on time and was responsive by phone, text, or email during our stay. Now for the house, as you can see on the pictures there are bars on the windows and doors. This is to deter petty theft crimes. My wife was paranoid about crime so we would always lock all doors/gates even when we were inside the house and used the safe for all valuables. During our entire 5 days there, we had zero issues with crime or shady activity. The property was visited by the gardener, pool man and a family of monkeys. Totally safe. The house is located next to playa pelada which is just north of playa guinones(main surfing beach). Playa pelada is a beautiful alcove of reefs and patches of sandy beach. You really can't surf in this area. We had to drive to playa guinones each day for the beach. The roads to the house requires 4WD. We had a land cruiser the entire time and it was perfect. Initially, I booked a golf cart with limo dan but it was not 4WD. I would recommend ATV if you want but realize it's very hot and dusty. Food is great but not inexpensive and every meal we ate seemed to cost about the same regardless if it was fine dining by the ocean or taco shops on the street.
A great house in an amazing location!
Let me start off by saying that we are a family that travels a lot. We look for different experiences and would typically not return to the same destination. This all changed when found this amazing place at the north end of Playa Pelada 6 years ago. We have been back 5 times, staying in this house 4 times.
If you are reading this, you probably know Nosara is highly regarded as a top tourism destination. Nosara is made up of several beaches which include Playa Garza, Playa Guiones (main beach), Playa Pelada, Playa Nosara and Ostional. Guiones is the main tourist area where most of the tourism infrastructure is located. It is renowned for its surfing and has consistent waves and beach breaks for all levels and abilities. Ostional is home to the largest nesting site for Olive Ridley Sea Turtles in the world, which nest for a few days every month, a week or so before the new moon. Playa Pelada has virtually no development and is one of the most picturesque beaches in Costa Rica having volcanic outcrops and small sandy bays. The house is located at the North end of the Beach in an area with just a handful of houses. The beach is almost as close as you can get to the beach as there is no development permitted along the shoreline. It is easily accessible (3 min walk) down a small dirt path.
About the house - This house has a unique layout which is convenient for large groups. We have travelled with other families with small children and have each had our spaces and washrooms. The central location of the pool makes it conducive for drinks and swimming with sun and shade. It is always well kept and you never know what animals will drop by for a visit. It is common to see exotic birds, coatimundis, raccoons, iguanas, and howler monkeys poolside. The living room and kitchen are well equipped, simple and functional. There is a nice indoor and outdoor dining tables if you choose to cook your own meals. I highly recommended the pescaderia (fish vendor) beside Il Basilica or in San Juanillio - Fresh Yellow Fin Tuna is about $6/lb so needless to say we ate a lot of Sushimi.
Like most remote places comes some inconveniences - power outages, water shortages, and driving to amenities are a reality here. Bring flashlights and expect these type of things.
So to conclude - if you are looking for a true costa rica experience this is for you. If you pack in a Luis Vuitton Suitcase look at the resorts or Manual Antonio.
