Why Lisa M Charest chose Pass-a-grille

This property was where I grew up! It has been annual rentals then I began updating the property and making it for vacationers! This area is paradise and it is wonderful to own a small part of an island!

What makes this cottage unique

Nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and the Tampa Bay, Pass-a -Grille Beach is a gem with water and white sand beach everywhere in an underdeveloped little island. There are ten restaurants that are enticing, yummy and only a few blocks away. Cute shops and boutiques run along 8th Ave, the smallest downtown in the US which is perfect for strolling. Pass a Grille Beach is mostly a residential beach- It is perfect for a life made for walking, relaxing, cycling or swimming. The beach house is only a few steps from our beach trolley stop and the trolley can take you to wherever you want to go.. or you can just stay, enjoy the water, the sea grapes and the local restaurants as they entice all who come to this area and above all enjoy the sunset that has made St Pete Beach & Pass a Grille the 'sunset capital of FL'.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A GoodBye note- We will miss our beautiful beach house and beautiful Pass-a- Grille! Already we are looking forward to next year; thanks for everything. Lisa, you are an amazing landlord.

PAG beach visit

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Starfish 9/2016 with our dogs and had a wonderful trip. Dogs enjoyed doggie beach area every morning. We were disappointed the dogs weren't allowed on the main beach, but they had a great time anyway. The bikes and paddle board were great to have available! I recommend using both! There are several outdoor spaces on the property each with a grill. There is an outdoor shower and hose for rinsing off - very nice to have to bathe dogs! The property is in a great location and we were able to walk or ride bikes everywhere we went. We even rode the bikes to Publix, which was only about 2 miles and there is a back road to avoid the current construction area. Sunsets are amazing at Paradise Grille! Merry pier is great for fishing. Really enjoyed dining at Sea Critters, Wharf, and Brass Monkey! And evening sunset sailboat excursion on Fantasea was wonderful. I would recommend this property (Starfish) for couples at most (and maybe one small child). Consider bringing a few more bath towels and/or several beach towels. Laundry can be done on property for small fee (I believe was around $1-2), but for me, there is no laundry on vacation! The beach is beautiful and water is fabulous! The beach is literally an easy walking distance to the left of property and the bay is to the right...I'm guessing 150 steps or less! Lisa has a fantastic reference guide available for area review including grocery, dining, shopping, adventures, etc. We really had everything we needed and are very grateful to Lisa for allowing us, and our doggies, to stay in her home!

Beautiful location, clean and fun!

  • 5 of 5

We love the Starfish! It's small but there are just the two of us. We have stayed in various of Lisa's properties and each one is unique, beautiful and fun. My husband and I start jonesing for Pass a Grille every year right after Christmas and treasure our time there. We were missing our beach towels this year and a wonderful and sweet helper showed up right away with beach towels and bulbs to change a light. When we arrived there were some supplies to get us started and we had a great time. The kitchen has everything that we needed to prepare simple meals although we tend to eat out - some of our favorites include the Sea Horse for breakfast, Brass Monkey for the sunsets and the Bleu Steak Salads, in Tampa: Ulele and the Columbia both owned by the Gonzmarts, in Cortez The Star Fish Company (a little bit of a drive but worth it), Cassis in St. Petersburg, Carino's by Treasure Island, The Pearl in St. Petersburg and the Black Palm over in Pasadena - all delicious - there are many restaurants in Pass a Grille, St. Pete Beach, St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay area - find your own favorites. The beach is steps away and we enjoy our walks in the morning. The beach is clean and because of limited parking it doesn't seem to get crowded. This year I took advantage of a 6 mile running loop around Pass a Grille and into Vina del Mar on the other side of the bridge while my husband rode around on the bike provided. We feel very safe in the community walking around at any time. The sunsets are beautiful every day - truly treasures. Although we always rent a car we can see how it's possible to do without one since everything is readily available and there are trolleys to leave Pass a Grille itself to go exploring. We love going to Pass a Grille and staying with Lisa - we will be returning next year barring any unforeseen circumstances - Thanks Lisa!

Cute house steps from the water!

  • 5 of 5

StarFish house was beautifully decorated and steps to the beach. The shared patio was perfect for coffee and to see the bay (intercoastal?) in the morning as the sun rose. The beach was just a short walk away to the west, easy to go for a bit and then come back for a nap before heading back out to enjoy it more before the sun set off to the west. Lisa has made it homey and comfortable, a wonderful blend of history and modern conveniences. She gave a lot of great info to help start the visit well. It was perfect for two and we will be back, maybe to stay in the larger house next door with family!

Good for folks with children only-don't expect peace and quiet

  • 2 of 5

The location of this property is excellent, it's situated steps from the beach. It's a cheap rental, you will get what you pay for. It's clean, and has basic amenities. It's basically a mother in law suite that is part of what feels like a communal rental. So expect other renters to be very much in your personal space, coming and going at all hours of the night, triggering the very bright lights right outside of the suite. All the other renters had very loud, very poorly behaved children at the time of our rental (which of course does not reflect on our landlady), but just be aware that this is NOT a place to really relax. A couple of absurdly uncomfortable beach chairs were included with the rental, so if you stay here, try to bring your own. Also, bring change, because apparently since this is such a cheap rental, you have to use the coin operated washer/dryer behind the suite if you need to do some laundry. We, personally, would not stay here again. The location is not worth the noise.

Owner's Response: This review has taken me by surprise; I was never made aware of any issues, Out of 13 reviews on this site and numerous other positive ones on other sites there is bound one bad review; (as much as it pains me to read it). Had I known I would have been able to immediately solve all of these issue. 1.The lights can be turned off with a switch on the wall. 2. The beach chairs I supply are quality brand 3 or 5 position chairs-that run about $50 per chair RIO style or similar brand 3. I simply would have talked with the childrens parents about the noise The house is a simple small one bedroom original beach bungalow house it is not a Lowes, Omni , or Mandarin Oriental. I try my best to make it perfect. Everything is done with a lot of thought, care & heart I have personally hand picked the items in this house as well as designed it. Certainly all others who have stayed here have had some great experiences. NOTE- this is not typically a kids location (because there is no pool- on-sight) so as much as I love kids the normal renters are typically singles or couples. Noise from children could happen anywhere- if I had known there were issues I would have been able to handle the problems immediately. I wish this renter the best of luck in the future finding her special place.
