Japanese Tatami Room, Mountain view
Great traditional Ryokan!
We really enjoyed our stay here at this lovely Ryokan. The staff was great, the Ryokan was very cozy and close to everything! It is a traditional Ryokan with futons on the floor for beds and buckwheat pillows but we loved it! While there is no onsen here, there is access to some of the public onsen and even a few private ones for 500 yen a person. Also, the free shuttle to the monkey park and train station was great. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay!

Very friendly, traditional Ryokan near Jigokudani
Friendly stafff. Facilities are not fancy (shared bathrooms, common showers on first floor, etc). Location is fine, it was about a 45 minute walk to Jigokudani Monkey Park, ...although it was dumping snow. Would consider stayin there again, but would also investigate alternatives.
Thank yoou for staying with us. We are glad of that you enjoyed communicaton with our staff and Monkey Park. Looking forward to welcoming again soon.
I was pretty satisfied with our Japanese-style room and the shared bathrooms. I was more impressed by the friendly staff and great meals at the restaurant/cafe. I had a delicious dinner there and breakfast was tasty and cheap. I also really liked their decor. They had a pretty convenient shuttle service to/from the monkey park and local onsens. I would book there again if I ever get to return to the area, or at least eat at the cafe. It is also walking distance to little souvenir shops and a sake museum that offers free tastings. I had worried about getting there from the train station because we were scheduled to miss the shuttle, but it was only a 25 minute walk from the station and otherwise volunteers would have helped us figure out the bus.

Fantastic ryokan in a wonderful town!
Koishiya ryokan is a wonderful little place that we really enjoyed staying at. The staff are extremely helpful and speak perfect English, and the feeling is that of a welcoming inn. The building itself is quite old, but the main floor has been renovated and is very comfortable. The rooms above are older but still very comfortable; be aware that as it's an older building in the Japanese style there is very little to no soundproofing. This is fine if everyone is respectful of the other guests, so keep your voices down and it's not an issue. The onsens in Yamanouchi have a wonderful relationship with each other and the ryokans, and they all share free entry with one another so you have a choice of numerous different baths to attend (the Koishiya offers a free shuttle to each). As it was the down season we had the entire onsen to ourselves, which was lovely. Definitely recommended!

Great upscale hostel
Great staff! But I did not know that this ryokan did not have access to the public baths the street is known for. They do provide some excellent other options! Would stay again - especially for that price and the great staff!
