Beautiful Cottage on Toddy Pond

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,800 sq. ft.
Property type cottage

About the property

Our cottage is on pristine and peaceful Toddy Pond. There is an excellent view of the pond from the front porch which is 75 feet from the water and you will get excellent sunset views. There is enough room between us and the neighbor's cottages to allow for privacy.

The water access is one of the best on the pond. It is a sandy bottom and gradual- very safe for children. Most properties have steep, rocky or muddy access or from a dock.

There is also a float anchored out from shore which is great to swim to, sunbathe, and older children love to dive or jump off it.

We have 5 kayaks, two windsurfers, a rowboat for fishing, a and a canoe. We ask renters to sign a liability waiver if they use any of the boats. There are organic blueberries to pick mid summer in our fields along the road behind the cottage.

The front yard by the water has a nice area with comfortable chairs, portable fire pit, grill, picnic table and hammock.

The open floor plan of the cottage allows plenty of room for socializing.

About Bob Jones

My partner, Doris Groves, and I own a small veganic farm in Brooksville, Maine. If you want to see what that looks like, go to

Bob Jones purchased this cottage in 1992

Why Bob Jones chose Surry

My father purchased this property in 1946 because of the sandy water access and great sunset views. There was a small cabin on this property which was removed In 1992 when the new building was erected.

What makes this cottage unique

Our renters have said they especially enjoyed kayaking on the pond and some liked fishing. Families with children have said that their favorite activity was going out to the island in front of the cottage, having a picnic lunch and jumping off a big rock there.

Beautiful and peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

This cabin exceeded our expectations in every way! Spacious, clean, well stocked and beautifully situated. Bob is a gracious, helpful and unobtrusive host. The pond is gorgeous, vast and full of fun islands and areas to discover. The short paddle to the nearest island and jumping rock was a daily favorite! Sleeping porches fabulous, as is the large screened porch. Lots of water craft to use. We will be back!!

Best family vacation...EVER!

  • 5 of 5

Bob's cabin was simply the best family vacation we've ever taken. The cabin was very clean, with all the listed amenities in working order (except the dishwasher, but we knew that heading into it). There were kayaks, canoes and a dingy readily available, along with plenty of paddles and PFD's. Bob showed us some excellent fishing spots and even went so far as to mark them for my boys, so they could find them later.

We brought all our food and spent the week preparing meals. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of pots, pans and dishes. I cooked full meals just like I do at home, and the only things I missed were my good knives and my favorite cast iron skillet!

The linens were fresh and clean, with extra blankets for the cool nights. The bathroom was very clean with more than enough storage for all our things. The beds were quite comfortable and the sleeping porches on the main level were fantastic!

There is a large porch on the back of the house facing the lake where I spent a large portion of each day rocking and looking at the water...when I wasn't out there in it, that is! We ate all our meals out there, listening to the loons.

I cant even begin to talk about how beautiful Toddy Pond itself is. Its incredibly clean, surprisingly warm and not very busy. We kayaked, swam and fished all day, every day. The kids used snorkeling gear and paddled all around the waterfront. The jumping rock was a highlight for my three boys, they never tired of it.

We are hopeful we can go back next summer and spend even more time. Bob, we appreciate your hospitality, and thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.

Absolutely Perfect Week

  • 5 of 5

When you walk in the cabin you are instantly greeted with a wide open floor plan that lets you enjoy the beauty of the house. The two master bedrooms off of the first floor were a joy as they were screened in on two sides and it was like you had air conditioning when sleeping. The two smaller bedrooms upstairs were perfect for the younger couples in our group. The kitchen was very well stocked with every thing you will need to cook and to serve meals. The front porch, that runs the full width of the house, was a pleasant surprise and with the big dinning room table you could sit 10 and everyone would be comfortable. The extras that Bob throws in with the kayaks, canoes, row boat, sail boat, and off shore float makes this cabin standout. The sunsets, the fishing, and the quiet was enjoyed by all.

Being close to Ellsworth, Bar Harbor and Acadia just added to the things to do and see.

Bob is great to rent from and we truly thank him for a perfect week.

Fantastic sunsets, and relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family, including our dog, stayed in this cabin in July 2016. Bob was very gracious and wonderful to rent from! The location of this cabin is hard to beat, as well as Bob let us use his kayaks and row boat! So we didn't have to pay extra to rent them (bonus!!). My children 8 and 11 loved fishing right out in front of the cabin, kayaking to the HUGE rock we jumped from (about 500 yds from the shore), and lounging/jumping off the float. The lake water was warm and clear - not many weeds. My favorite part was watching the sunsets over the lake in the evening! The cabin is well stocked, everything we needed (and more) were in the kitchen and bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable, and we enjoyed listening to the loons at night! The location is about 15 minutes from Ellsworth, which is a cute town and has restaraunts and grocery stores, wal-mart, etc. We drove to Acadia and surrounding areas for hikes throughout the days - Acadia is about 40 minutes away. The best part is you are away from the hustle and bustle tourist areas. This was by far our favorite family vacation and we will rent from Bob again! Thank you, Bob for helping us create amazing family memories!

Absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

When you already live in Maine, the bar is set pretty high for amazing vacation spots - so we were glad we were able to find this gem. This was our third year spending a summer week at this lovely place on Toddy Pond. The house very comfortably fits our two families. The grown-ups took the bedrooms downstairs, which are screened in on two sides - it's like sleeping outdoors, but without the bugs and the sleeping bag! Listening to the loons at night while laying in bed is such a treat. The kids shared the two bedrooms upstairs and were happy to have their own floor. Plenty of kayaks and life jackets for all - and this year on our group paddle, we were treated to a bald eagle flying right overhead. The kids absolutely loved the "jumping rock" which is a very short kayak away. The swimming is immaculate... sandy, gradual entry, very clean. Great fishing as well. Gorgeous sunsets every night. There is a screened porch that runs the entire width of the front, with a big dining table - we enjoyed our family style dinners here each and every night. Easy drive to Acadia NP and Mt. Desert Island, or to Blue Hill. Groceries, etc. close by in Ellsworth. I think what we love the most is that this house has absolutely everything you could want (including great wifi), but retains the feel of a summer camp. This is the most relaxing week of the year for us, and it's a sad thing when Saturday rolls around and it's time to go! As soon as we leave we are already looking forward to the next year. Bob Jones is the kindest, most thoughtful and attentive owner we have ever rented from, and that is why we stopped looking around once we found this place a few years back. We can't say enough good things about it. Thank you, Bob, for sharing it!
