About Betty Tully

My daughter Jo and myself manage the cottage and live on the estate. The cottage was designed for complete privacy - although if you need/want personal contact we are nearby. We love the Sooke area , know it well and are always delighted to introduce people to it.

Betty Tully purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Betty Tully chose Vancouver Island

1265 ft of wild ocean frontage with two accessible private beaches pretty much sums it up. There are also magnificent tall trees, trails through the rain forest, gardens, the beach house and stunning views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Olympic Mountains.

What makes this cottage unique

In this Architect designed luxury cottage guests will enjoy the original artwork by Alex Fong, quality linens, the up-to-date kitchen, and the wood stove The cottage is near the point of land known as Otter Point. Otter Point is the only place in the area where you can cast a fishing line from shore and catch a salmon.

Absolutely Gorgeous!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and 10 year old daughter recently stayed at Seaward and I can't say enough how much we enjoyed it! The property, home, beaches, and Betty's hospitality were absolutely wonderful. Everything from the meticulously manicured gardens, the overall design of the home and beach house, to the onsite trails leading to the beaches...it was a slice of perfection! We'd recommend this as a destination for anyone visiting the Sooke area, it will not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded all of our expectations! Thanks again to Betty for her kindness and opening her home to us!

Spectacular rental, host and location

  • 5 of 5

We have enjoyed Sooke before and decided to look for a rental cottage for two couples and a dog. There were a few alluring choices but having stayed here I can not imagine any other choices surpassing our experience. We spent four nights, arriving on Canada Day and during a run of exquisite weather. Truly everything was perfect about the cottage and the property.

The private beach was a favorite on-site "destination," and for those who don't know the area the cottage is very well-located to visit area trails plus good food. We only went out one night (do try Wild Mountain) because it was so pleasant to be at the cottage and the grill works great.

Betty is warm, hospitable and experienced.

I would be shocked if anyone doesn't rank this as one of their top getaways - anywhere.

Lovely house and grounds with quick access to two great beaches

  • 5 of 5

The grounds are lovely, the beaches are great to spend time on (and take 1 minute to get to), the Otter Point location is ideal for access to Sooke and all the natural beauty of the West Coast. Betty is a friendly helpful host but also unobtrusive. The only small negative that I had not expected is that the cottage is a bit closer to the road than I had expected, so you could often hear traffic noise from the yard, and also quite close to two other houses on the same property. So it was not quite as secluded as I had imagined it would be. Overall, though, we loved our stay! Bonus: on two occasions we saw a sea otter gallumping across the lawn on its way to the sea, as well as a doe and two fawns grazing right outside the kitchen window!

Heaven by the water

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I stayed in Betty's beautiful cottage for a week in April. Betty was there to greet us and was close by if we needed her. The cottage was so well equipped that we settled in very quickly and didn't want to leave. We had a whole variety of weather during our stay and it was a treat to watch the changing scenery from the comfortable easy chair. The wood burner was great to light in the evening and made the cottage very cosy. Thanks for making us feel so welcome Betty.

Perfect! Exactly what we were hoping for!

  • 5 of 5

Unbeatable ocean view, beautifully maintained landscaping and paths to the beach. The house is very nicely decorated with new appliances and everything is sparkling clean. Lovely touches too like Easter chocolates for the kids and coffee and Fran's chocolates for the grownups. Betty was super accommodating and thoughtful. A great experience!

Main attractions are the many wild beaches with the ocean either stormy or calm as glass. See ocean wildlife such as Orcas, seals, sea lions and otters. For birdwatchers there are eagles, ospreys, owls, grebes, loons, herons and even the occasional pelican. There are world ranked restaurants such as Sooke Harbour House specializing in serving local produce. Fishing in the area is perhaps the best of the Island. Whale watching is well worth the experience. Bring your camera!
