About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4

Private, Authentic Cabin on 2 acres. At the Stone Lagoon Cabin you can gaze at wild elk (sometimes they are right on the property), sit by the creek, walk or ride bikes to Stone Lagoon, and explore the redwoods (close to Redwood National Park) and beaches that surround you! This cabin has 2 bedrooms, one of which is adjoining the living room and you put up a privacy screen to separate it from living room, living room, dining area, and full kitchen. Please note that the only heat source in the cabin is wood heat. A wood stove in the living room and another in the formal bedroom will keep you plenty warm! This is a beautiful logger cabin (you can see the small holes in the floor from the tree climber spikes) and is very private and definitely off the beaten path. You are surrounded by nature and can take a nice 1.5 mile walk to the beach and lagoons, walking by herds of wild elk and beautiful horses. Horseback riding is offered about a half mile from the cabin - what a great family adventure!

Watch the Stone Lagoon Cabin on YouTube

The hiking all around you is truly world class - whether through the Redwoods National Park, along the beaches of the lagoons, the trail from Dry Lagoon to Stone Lagoon along the beaches then through the woods (about 5 miles round trip), Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Tall Trees, and much more. You can do some of these walks by just walking out your door and not getting into your car - especially the Dry Lagoon to Stone Lagoon one.

And for the water lovers, what a paradise! The lagoons offer great fishing, kayaking (can rent kayaks at Big Lagoon through Kayak Zaks during busier times), canoeing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Surf fishing, boating and sailing. Some really enjoy putting in a kayak or canoe at Stone Lagoon and paddling across to the campsite, then hiking to the beach from there.

Fun annual events held locally include the Orick Rodeo which takes place in the summer, as well as the Yurok Tribe's Sumeg Village Day, a celebration of the local Native American culture held at nearby Patrick's Point State Park.

The adventures are endless from this wonderful cabin, starting with looking at your window and seeing the wildlife...

Hike to the tall trees in the redwood national park. Stroll along a lonely beach enjoying the sunsets, the crashing surf. Stare with amazement at a huge Roosevelt Elk and his 10 point antler. Retire to your cozy and secluded cabin. Dine on Dungeness crab and local oysters. Throw another log onto the stove. We spent new year's eve here, Dec 31, 2016, and extended our stay to 7 days.

Reviewer Comments:

The cabin offers a very warm, cozy place to escape the world and experience nature but with all the comforts of a home. The cabin's decor is very charming and unique and nothing is missing: the kitchen is very well equipped, the shower is hot and the bed comfy. While tucked away in the wood, the cabin is within short distance of the national park, the lagoons and beaches as well as a 20min drive to Trinidad and Arcata. Loved staying there, wished I didn't have to leave.

Reviewer Comments:

This is an amazingly beautiful place. It is built into the bottom of a canyon with a large fern covered rock outside the bedroom window. There is a hidden trail that leads up into the canyon that makes for a nice morning walk. Wild blackberry bushes are everywhere. Most days we saw elk, either on the property or on the road out to the highway. The cabin is rustic, but very comfortable and very nicely done. This was a five star experience.

My family and I had the most amazing trip to the redwoods and this cabin was the cherry on top. They had everything we needed and more in a beautiful area. The cabin is nestled in the woods and waking up to the view every morning was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Loved the original details everywhere and the grounds around it. Highly recommend to anyone wishing to go see the redwoods!

We loved the "off the beaten path" location of Stone Lagoon Cabin. We did not know what to expect and our visit exceeded expectations! The broken washing machine and empty gas grill were a disappointment. Otherwise all else was top notch. The bedroom felt like sleeping in a tree house; it was extra cool!

Owner's Response: Really glad you enjoyed your stay with us and apologize for the inconvenience of those 2 items - but glad we were able to get the BBQ gas replacement right away! Yes, it is really off the main path but still close to the beauty of the Redwood National Park, beaches & lagoons. Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals hopes to have you back again soon to here or any of our other 100+ homes in the area.

We loved everything about the cabin. Very comfortable, nicely decorated, with an eclectic collection of items. Cozy. Extremely quiet and secluded, yet near the beach and redwoods. Enjoyed morning and evening visits from a couple of male elks. One day the internet was out - but that was ok. Just unplug and enjoy being in the quiet country.

Owner's Response: Thanks for loving everything this cabin has to offer! And thanks for understanding that this is rural, we try hard to stay connected but at time things go out. Unplug here and observe the sunlight through the trees, elk in the meadows, and agates on the beaches. It's all right out the front door!
