Timothy Dobson is resident of Boulder for 38 years, an alumni of the University of Colorado and a graduate of Naropa University. Over the last 2 decades he has built community through teaching the Dances of Universal Peace and serving SpiritKeepers Interfaith Fellowship in Boulder as minister. This mountain home has provided a peaceful respite in nature to balance his busy community involvements. Learn more about him and his wife, Vera and their work.
Timothy Dobson purchased this cabin in 2011
They have lived on this property for over 20 years surrounded by 10 acres of Alpine Forrest and neighboring Forrest at each border of the property. It is adjacent to the Starhouse (Mt. Temple) and EarthStar Organic Farms in which they have been deeply involved for 2 decades. It has provided the perfect balance point location between the progressive community that they know and love as Boulder and the mountain wildlife that reminds them that many creatures share this Earth as home.
Quiet relaxation and privacy are important to me. Time spent in the hanging Sky Chair on the deck looking at the surrounding mountains, or lying in the sun or hammock, or watching a crescent moon set over the Continental Divide from the hot tub ... all describe features of this peaceful mountain abode. Set back from the canyon road by a long driveway, traffic noise is rarely audible. We welcome travelers seeking a quiet get away and encourage revelers to find a better fit in town.
Built in 1960 by a Quaker couple from Chicago as their Colorado summer home, this log cabin is a perfect blend between rustic and modern living. Some of the features are central heat, wood burning stove, new washer and dryer (2012), wood burning sauna, outdoor hot tub/ jacuzzi, flat screen T.V. wireless internet, etc.
There are hiking trails from the immediate property and Bald Mountain trail loop is less than 1 mile up the canyon. One neighbor's house shares the driveway, so the house is private, but not isolated.
We really enjoyed our time spent in Timothy and Vera's mountain cabin. The cabin itself is cozy, comfortable and very welcoming-feeling. We traveled with a small family but I can see it being a great place for a small group of friends as well. We loved eating out on the deck with birds buzzing around, relaxing in the hot tub under the stars, and taking short hikes from the front door through the woods. The area is gorgeous, with great views, and feels very much like you are well away from civilization. At the same time, we were only a short ten minute drive into downtown Boulder, with all it has to offer, and an hour from Rocky Mountain National Park. for us, it was the perfect combination of relaxation, remoteness, with access to amenities and wilderness.
We enjoyed our time spent in Sunshine Canyon. The owners were so welcoming, friendly and available if needed. We had privacy but knew they were available if needed. The cabin was cozy and comfortable. The deck, hot tub and surrounding landscape was lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Boulder. We loved the vibrant and exciting city but truly felt peace and harmony just enjoying our time on the deck looking at mountains and stars. Hope to see you again in the spring.
This property was the perfect getaway. It was so quiet and peaceful that it was hard to believe we were just minutes from the city of Boulder. The views were amazing and the stars at night were just beautiful. Tim and Vera were very gracious hosts and made us feel very welcome. The property was very clean and had all the necessities of home. The hot tub was great too after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. Would definitely stay here again!
Everything about this property is perfect for a quiet, peaceful getaway. Photos do not due it justice. Gorgeous starry filled nights, beautiful gardens to admire during the day. Wifi works great, but try not to ruin the chance to unplug and enjoy just being for a while.
The property is beautiful. We had great views and a feeling of remoteness while Boulder is a few minutes away. The place was great and had everything you need. Timothy and Vera gave us a nice walk through and were close by if we needed anything. One hour form RMNP made it that much better!
Tim and Vera's rental was perfect for us in many ways. The rental had all of the necessary amenities of home, including many extras such as a hot tub, a beautiful deck surrounded by trees, flowers, and beautiful scenery. The location was the perfect spot to feel secluded, but close enough to the downtown area. It was a true retreat and I feel recharged :) Tim and Vera were gracious hosts and made sure to give us a full tour of the rental and answered our many questions. I would certainly recommend this rental for anyone who is looking to have the perfect "getaway" spot.
Our cozy log home is 3.5 miles from downtown Boulder, a ten minute drive to the historic Pearl Street Mall. Extending west from Mapleton Hill, Sunshine Canyon Drive is the road to the old mining town of Gold Hill with access to the Peak to Peak Hwy.
