Edam is the ideal place to stay for both elderly tourists and tourists with smaller children (before they reach the age of puberty).
Obviously you will be a lot in Amsterdam for sightseeing, interesting but tiring as well and therefor it is really nice to repose afterwards
in the tranquility of Edam. The bus stop is 8 minutes walking from our house and the journey takes 20 minutes to Central Station Amsterdam (n. 314) If you are coming by car; usually there is parking space in front of the house (free of charge). Our house has two entrances, front and back.
There is no need to go back to Amsterdam in the evening, there are plenty of good and simple but also posh restaurants and many cultural events as well.
However, there is no night life. If that is what you are looking for Edam is too sedate. Everybody here likes peace and quiet which is why many people coming from Amsterdam sought this out as a great place to live. (With excellent cheese in abundant supply), of course.
Our house is 'all-weather': the part adjacent to the street is cool with tempered light. When the weather has an off day you can stay in the veranda and with great weather in the garden of course, where there is protection against the sun and where you can rest on a sofa outside and have dinner very comfortably as well. The master bedroom is on the first floor with easy stairs, which has both a separate shower and washing amenities in that room and a separate bathroom with a big bath and toilet, to be used by your children or friends sleeping on the second floor. The second staircase is a bit steep. One of the owners is a professional chef, so the kitchen is really nice for foodies.
Lots of fridges, and a freezer.
There is of course free WIFI, TV with Netflix and the usual stations and also Spotify. There are towels in abundance, hairdryers, bathrobes etc. The owners used to run a 4 start B&B in Amsterdam, so they know what guests need. You can bring one dog, extra cleaning charges apply.
