More shabby than chic
Whilst the rooftop area was nice, the whole house was tired/run down - lots of things not working e,g lights under kitchen counter, cooker hood control panel missing), half lightbulbs didnt work on stairs, roof terrace, toilet. Handle rail on steep stairs up to roof was loose, bedroom lights missing/wires trailing, electric switches broken/damaged, old fixtures hanging around in corners/on shelves, broken glass roof panels, mouldy/cracked shower messy sealant. Stains on bedroom ceiling. Main kitchen lights buzzed loudly when 'on'. Jacuzzi dirty and half full (they will blame CT water shortage for that - yet place across street had a proper sized pool full of water)
Cleaning was an issue - although no doubt the owner will blame the xmas holidays - basically cleaning should be every day ex sunday (according to their brochure) - xmas day excluded. However, we arrived Friday, no cleaner saturday, off sunday, no cleaner monday, xmas day tuesday...it was wednesday before the bin was emptied (the guy that came that day was good). We had to beg for toilet rolls (inc in brochure) to be delivered and even then took 2 days.
Lower roof terrace was covered in detritus when we arrived, upper roof terrace has been swept but they'd piled the sweepings up behind a plant pot so when the wind blew it was back to messy.
The WORST thing about the house is the [lack of] air-conditioning. One single unit in the bedroom which was weak/hardly worked - this is woefully inadequate for a house made half of glass (which is in full sun for majority of day) and there is no bedroom door to even keep the cool air contained in the bedroom.
Bedroom Blinds missing so as soon as the sun came up it was wake up time!
There was ceiling fan in kitchen (actually more effective than the aircon unit) but again - because back of house is mostly glass with no way of screening the sun out, the place was like an oven for majority of the day. Terrible.
Other basics missing, like no clothes airer to dry anything - ended up using tumble dryer (even though it was 30C outside & things would've dried quickly) - yet the property next door had one (cleaned/managed by same people)
The pillow and mattress were badly stained with no pillow protectors
Wifi ok on the ground floor, signal too weak on roof.
Overall for Peak rate per night this was a pretty poor experience. Sad thing is, spend a few thousand Rand and it could be improved massively.
Home from home
Second time back within 2 weeks to finish our Cape Winelands holiday. We love this place. Convenient, close to many restaurants and the Waterfront. Amazing views of Table Mountain. We will be back!
Home away from home - highly recommended
I used to live in Cape Town and always wanted to stay in one of the pretty houses in the Waterkant. I booked it for our first 4 nights stays and for our last 2 of our holiday. Very well equipped, great decor and so close to all the great places to eat. Perfect security too as there is a gated car park at the back. Great place to stay and such an amazing view of Tabel Mountain from the top roof terrace. Highly recommended! Gerla
