About Mike & Denise Pace

We, Mike and Denise, are high school sweethearts. We have one grown son (still single!) who is an officer in the Marine Corps. I'm a business owner of over 30 years. Denise is a housewife. We both enjoy rehabbing homes together. I'm also a co-owner of a local martial arts school.

We have lived in the same home since moving from SoCal in the summer of 2000. My Dad was born and raised here in Hendersonville, and it's been great to put the places with the stories I grew up with. I love to hunt and fish and work hard. Denise enjoys leading Bible studies, walking/hiking, horsey riding, and shopping. We both love spending time together and camping with our two dogs.

Mike & Denise Pace purchased this house in 2016

Why Mike & Denise Pace chose Hendersonville

We found this home early 2016, and knew right away the potential it had of being a very cute and cozy and comfortable home. It was a bank-owned property when we purchased it, and very dilapidated. We spent almost an entire year working on it to bring life and vitality back into it. From a new roof, new electrical wiring throughout, new HVAC and ducting, new appliances, new windows, adding water filtration, and many other things, this home is now one we would love to live in ourselves.

What makes this house unique

We still have a few more plans with this beautiful home. There is a garden area that will be useful in the growing and harvest months. (Please feel free to take and use what herbs and veggies you find there! They are for your use.) The hand-carved bowl on the living room table came from the ambrosia maple we had to remove from the driveway/parking area. The brick walkway in front was uncovered during the rehab process. And, we have decorated the inside with some local art and a few antiques. We hope you truly enjoy your visit.

Comfort and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Surrounded by trees and beautiful birds, the home was very welcoming. The sheets on the bed were the softest I can remember and everything just made the stay totally relaxing. A real bonus was the garden where I was able to pick fresh basil and cukes. Should have stayed another week as the squash and tomatoes would have been ready. Owners were attentive but unobtrusive and have created an unforgettable home for your stay.

Great for peace and quiet while recovering from surgery--but still near everything.

  • 5 of 5

Located within a few miles of everything, yet when it's time to relax you feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere. The sounds are birds, frogs, crickets, the occasional neighbors dog, and the like instead of traffic and city noise. For me, it was the perfect place to spend 2 weeks recovering from having Brain Surgery at the hospital just down the road. (never heard an ambulance--fyi) The linens and towels were above par, the kitchen had everything you could imagine, and it was quality. There are no bargain basement and cheap/broken items here like with a lot of rentals. Even the normal-little things like trash bags, dish soap, paper towels, and toilet paper were there, unlike most rentals where you have to buy everything even if only for 3 days. Things like that say to me the owner is saying: enjoy my home and your vacation, and don't sweat the small stuff. The fenced in yard was a big plus too.

My husband is an avid mountain biker and found many trails within a 30 minute drive that were challenging. He also found a park nearby to do outdoor workouts. We enjoyed downtown Hendersonville, prior to surgery and less than 10 minutes away, and he liked visiting all the breweries. This locale is really good for exploring the area and avoiding traffic. There is also a loop through the neighborhood that made post surgery strolls safe and easy for me and our tiny poodle.

Mike and Denise are super sweet and quick to respond to a question or two. A bulb went out in the kitchen and when I asked where to find them in the cabin to fix it, he came out and changed it himself. He teased me that the flickering bulb was because he thought I ordered the "disco package". Mike seems really nice and fun-hearted. We would stay here again and again, without hesitation. We plan to go back and do all the excursions that we learned about while there when I'm able.

Thanks for having such an accommodating home away from home. Many other rental owners could learn a huge lesson on what TO DO from you two. All the best!

Comfortable, cozy little home away from home

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this little house for a long weekend while working in Hendersonville. The place is very quiet, and very nicely equipped. Comfy bed (memory foam pillow and a regular pillow- it was nice to have options) and great kitchen. It had everything one would need. It rained a lot while I was there, but if not for the rain I would have enjoyed the cute back porch. Lots of space for parking. The owners were responsive and thoughtful. The location is unexpected, but actually very convenient.

Great time, cozy quiet cottage

  • 5 of 5

Cottage was clean, well-kept, air-conditioned -- all good! We were most of the time noodling around the area, but it was a real blessing to come home each night to this hideaway. Close enough to whatever you might want to do in the Hendersonville-Asheville area. Loved it! If we come back, we'll surely look for this place again.

Located near Historic Downtown Hendersonville.

Several waterfalls are nearby in the Pisgah and DuPont Forests. Biltmore House, Grove Park Inn, NC Arboretum, Carl Sandburg Home, Flat Rock Playhouse, and many other sites are must-see attractions in the area to visit. The Apple Festival is held over Labor Day Weekend each year with apple orchard tours, parade, boutiques on Main Street, music and dancing, and lots of apple-everything!

The Fall colors are best from mid-to-late October. Springtime is absolutely gorgeous. Winters are mostly mild with occasional snow accumulation. Summers are green, green, green.

There are several creeks that are stocked with hatchery-supported trout - rainbows, browns, brooks. Lake Lure has boating and fishing available. The French Broad River is loaded with small mouth, bream and muskie, and is perfect for a float in an inner tube. Local hunting can be had in the game lands of Green River and DuPont.

Shop til you drop everyday on Main Streets in Hendersonville and Asheville. A wide variety of dining locations can be found all around the area, from local fares to chain restaurants. Many locations serve the local brews from the many breweries that have moved into the area.

There is much to do here in Hendersonville. If you're one to prefer participating in activities and events, or if you're one to sit quietly and read a book and go for a walk - we have it all in our little town.

We hope you enjoy your stay! :o)
