Merida at its most authenic!

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

2 bedroom/2 bathroom Colonial home close to Merida's major squares

Here is your chance to experience the real Merida! Located on the lovely square of San Sebastian, one the most authentic and least touristy of all Merida’s squares, you can truly feel a part of the community. While “gringo gulch” is blocks away, this location is an easy walk to La Ermita, another of Merida’s lesser known jewels, while the Plaza Grande and Parque Santiago are only a little further on. San Sebastian also has its own small mercado which makes shopping a breeze.

Casa Ceniza has three full bedrooms, each with full bath. Not only are those three rooms air conditioned, but the living room also has air conditioning, making virtually the entire living space cool and comfortable year round.

There is a spacious eat-in kitchen as well as another eating area under the covered terrace in front of the pool. And if those weren’t enough choices for relaxing and dining, there is also a roof terrace with comfortable lounge chairs…great for sunning and, later in the evening, relaxing under the stars.

Perfect for either holiday or longer term rentals, the home has been very recently remodeled and everything is new and comfortable!

Our two months in Merida

  • 4 of 5

We arrived in Merida on February 2nd and spent 2 months at this property. We fell in love with the neighbourhood! Everything we needed or could want was nearby, from the convenience store, to the large grocery store, to the park and church, and little restaurants. The bus depot and taxi stand are two blocks away and the bus to Progresso is another 6 (all within walking distance ). There were a few drawbacks.....getting in and out of the pool was difficult as there are no steps going in and climbing out you find yourself on gravel.(hard on the feet).

Usually there is a cell phone provided for contacting the managers but not here and when we ran out of gas (twice) we had to use our own cell (on roam) to contact them costing us about $80.00. There were no reading lamps or side tables in the living room, so it was difficult to read in the evening and the furniture was more suited to outdoor patios, being very low and uncomfortable. There was AC in the livingroom and bedrooms which made sleeping comfortable and the kingsize beds and linens were good. The kitchen had new appliances and although the dishes and cutlery were new, it lacked any serving dishes, steak knives, mixing bowls, or any measuring utensils, or bowls and although there were wineglasses, they were located on a shelf that required a ladder to reach them. Staying here for a week or two would be very comfortable, a longer stay would require some improvements.

We LOVED this house!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (kids ages 9 and 11) stayed at Casa Ceniza for a week in December 2013. We did not have a car and were able to walk everywhere from the house. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood, close to the loncheria, the market, corner store and tortilleria. We felt safe walking around at night. The house was very clean and comfortable. Each room came equipped with multiple hammocks (great for napping or reading a book) and the pool was such a slice of heaven. It was a great way to relax after a busy day. Our favorite part was the kitchen. It is huge! And it is a real kitchen. We cooked daily and felt that the pots, pans, knives and appliances were all in fantastic condition. Kudos to the owners for stocking it so well. We really appreciated it. The house was spacious enough for everyone to find a place to hang out and read after a long day of walking around and sightseeing.

A big thanks to LeAnn Roberts at Mexico International in Merida for helping me find this place. It was a great place for our family for the week.
