For dining and shopping for fine art, local artists works, jewelry, etc., as well as many activities that Saugatuck has to offer, you're only 3 miles to downtown via a paved bike path, Downtown Douglas is just across the bridge from Saugatuck with more restaurants, shopping & river park.
We rented this home for a week's family gathering in the Saugatuck area. We had enough space for 8 to sleep comfortably. We had called the rental agent beforehand to determine what extras we needed to bring; i.e. kitchen utensils, grilling tools, towels, etc. They told us to bring any utensils/small appliances we felt we would need -- we actually left two large IKEA bags filled, on the back porch, all week! We found everything we needed to cook every meal for 8 except individual measuring cups and a waffle iron. Beautiful linens, towels, new front-load washer & dryer, a fire pit and grill on-site for your use, as well as the special forks for toasting the marshmallows and hot dogs! Bring swim towels for the community pool, bug spray, and sunscreen.
We went blueberry picking north of Holland, spent a day at Oval Beach, and visited a lighthouse museum too. We had family pictures taken at Oval Beach. Saugatuck is a great little village to browse and shop for art, clothing, chocolates, and delicious food. Be sure to take a ride on the chain ferry - our grandchildren got to 'grind' us across - they said it was the best part of the week!
We hope the renting agents will take the time to actually visit this home and make note of all of the special conveniences the owner has provided, i.e. life jackets, fish poles, board games, movies .... so they can adequately inform future renters.
Our family had the best vacation of our lives at this beautiful cabin in July 2014! We were traveling with three generations and everyone easily amused themselves. The accommodations are immaculate, the décor delightful and the scenery beautiful. The cabin is located directly across the pool making it ridiculously easy to get there (maybe 30 seconds?) and right on the boardwalk to the lake. The cabin includes a canoe which was easy to haul to lake, kids were thrilled.
The towns of Saugatuck and Douglas are easy to access. I highly recommend the Saugatuck Dune rides and the sunset cruise in Saugatuck. We visited Oval Beach as well, but during our stay it was unseasonably cold so the kids didn't stay in the water long (the community pool is heated, thus much harder to keep them out!). Also highly recommend Saugatuck Dunes State Park/beach is beautiful. Be aware that the walk into the park may be a bit much for young ones.
Our kids loved the back porch, proximity to the pool and making smores in the fire pit. Parents (and grandparents) love the relaxed feel of the cabin/lake setting. You won't regret staying here.
My family vacationed here and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin is just like it looks in the pictures, we were across the road from the communal pool. The kids played there every day. We were next to the boardwalk that led to Lake Goshorn. We never used the canoe but one comes with the cabin. This location is close to the Saugatuck Dune Rides attraction, and also the villages of Saugatuck and Douglas. We went on the sunset cruise in Saugatuck, visited Oval Beach, climbed Mount Baldhead, and did some shopping in Saugatuck and Douglas. Overall it was a great location, and we had a great time. I would recommend this cabin to anyone that wants to explore the Saugatuck/Douglas communities. My kids loved the cabin, especially the screened-in porch that makes you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. We had a fire pit and made smores at night (watch out for mosquitoes).
Just minutes to shops, art galleries, and restaurants in communities of Saugatuck & Douglas. Minutes to area Lake Michigan sandy beaches.
