~PRIVATELY OWNED in the heart of Downtown Kona. (Between Huggo's Restaurant & Bubba Gump's.) The Grounds are Beautiful Pristine & Tropical with Tiki Torches lit every night for added Hawaiiana Ambiance.

WALK to everything: Beach, Shopping, Dining, Church, Luau, Grocery, Farmer's Market for local fruit & veggies, etc. You really don't need a car.

(but arrange ahead for cab from airport. approx $40)

There is a shuttle that goes up and down town Ali'i Dr. as well.

~Queen bed very comfortable. Also a sofa pull out bed if you don't want to share bed.

~Linens & Bath Towels provided. Cool ocean breezes in this unit. A/C if need.

We love to listen to the ocean right outside. Having dinner on our private lanai watching the sunset into the ocean is a must do. Watch for the 'green flash!'

Once you come here you'll never want to go anywhere else.

Free Onsite Parking is limited first come basis. Security is strict & you need Parking Pass from Security.

24 Hour on-site Security and Cameras.

~On site Coin Washer/Dryers.

This Unit is on THIRD FLOOR. There is NO ELEVATOR. Great for security but pack your suitcase light! Forget something? No worries. Walmart & Ross, etc. close by.

THIS IS A NON-SMOKING UNIT AND SMOKE FREE COMPLEX. It is beyond my control & Security will fine for smoking on grounds or unit. NO PETS OF ANY KIND.

~~My unit is individually owned and operated as some are. Unfortunately some of the other units are not as nice as this unit & can give the Kona Islander a bad reputation. We take great pride in our unit to meet our needs & standards & the needs & standards of our guests.~~

About Gigi Hayes-Polk

We put our heart & soul into our Hawaii Unit. It was remodeled with Hawaiiana Design. We retired and moved to Hawaii for the winters. I came from Buffalo, NY & Cape Cod, MA. My husband from Northern CA. This is a golfers paradise (ask my husband... wink wink ;p) as well as a beach tropical dream. We split our time in Kona & Cape Cod. We rent it out when we are not here. Therefore you will find it CLEAN & NEAT with many small appliances for your needs. Although it is small and the kitchen smaller, it meets our needs. Having the Ocean waves right out the door is what makes it so special. Some of these units at The Islander are not up to par as is ours. We take pride in our unit and reputation. The grounds on the other hand are unbelievably gorgeous and tropical Hawaiiana and well kept. Banana trees onsite and occasionally in lobby you can get some local fruit from the trees! We do BBQ very often and meet people at the pool, hot tub area and it is so much fun. It is quiet and security is amazing. 10 CUBIC FRIDGE! fridge with freezer. (see pics)

What makes this condo unique

Being Downtown has it's advantages. You can walk to everything & work off all of the great food. Parking is limited so it's great to not even deal with a car. I have a moped for fun. You can rent them downtown too.

Visit Black, White & Green Sand beaches on Big Island Hawaii. Walk to a Luau at King Kamehameha Hotel.

Perfect ocean front stay

I was a little skeptical as I had read reviews about the hotel and my previous accomodation in Hilo was literally a roach motel but that all went out the window as soon as I opened to door to Gigi's apt. It was perfect. I can only speak of the apt and the grounds of the Kona Islander Inn, the grounds are lovely, the lobby area is very nice and open. Gigi thought of absolutely everything, you will need for nothing in her apartment. Her kitchen was fully stocked, with every pan and utensil you could need. We made good use of it, as eating out in Hawaii can be expensive. Alot of people complained (unnecessarily) about there being no elevator, we did not have an issue as the apartment is on the 3rd floor. If you cannot walk up 3 flights of stairs then you have issues. There are alot of rules around the property which I can understand, alot of the apartments are privately owned and lived in. Another thing people had an issue with is parking, we were able to find parking outside our unit every night except one, and then we parked in another area of the parking lot. The only time you will have an issue with parking is if you come back late.

Gigi also had alot of beach equipment such as boogie boards and chairs that we used. I cannot say enough about this unit. I would highly recommend it. You will have to go across the street in order to see the sunset properly but you can also see beautiful skies from the lanai. There are so many shops and restaurants literally at your finger tips. You can hear the waves crashing while sitting on the lanai. I am already planning my next trip.

Location, Location, Location!

We had a great time during our 2-week stay at the condo- once we arrived we opened the lanai door to a great view of the ocean, only obstructed by palm and fruit trees. The location is superb, close enough to walk downtown every night but not so close to the beach/restaurants that the evenings are loud. We did have one obnoxious neighbor for a few nights, but Cliff in security helped us out by notifying them. We didn't have a problem with any other neighbors : )

Gigi was nice enough to accommodate us on our schedule since our flights changed. Even though parking was first-come first served we didn't have any issues finding a space, this might be due to the shoulder season and the fact we ended up walking much more than we thought we would. Listen to Gigi about taking out the trash- everywhere in Hawaii regardless of cleanliness will attract bugs if it isn't taken out. Check in and out were both very easy. It was a great home away from home. We will definitely be back!

Kona Islander

The pool and grounds are well maintained..walking distance to all your needs..parking is unassigned, so first come gets parking..all in all I'd stay again

The view from 346 is spectacular. A well equipped and modern updated studio suite from Gigi.

The property is well situated within walking distance to a full range of restaruants and places of entertainment as well as beaches. Amenities include a full sized fridge and other modern appliances. Parking can be somewhat of a problem with a limited amount of spaces. I recommend Gigi's rental unit 346, and I would definitely come back here. Thanks, Al Brodie

I do understand at certain times of the year in peak season parking can be limited at the doorstep but there is always free parking very close. The good thing is being downtown is a great asset and you don't even need a car. Also there is Enterprise Rental which brings the car right to you. They also pick it up when you're done. Fabulous little slice of Heaven Gigi has here!

What an excellent location to walk everywhere, whether it's to the shops, beach farmers market almost next door or many eating spots. Beautiful views from the balcony both day and night, and sleep to the sound of waves crashing from the fold out bed (even with my bad back it was a good nights sleep!). Exceptional equipped kitchen for a studio and Gigi was extremely accommodating! Mom and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and loved meeting Gigi! Can't wait to go back! Aloha!
