Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 1/3 bath, 3 story home with 80 feet of shaded lakefront

Three story lakefront home at beautiful Harveys Lake.

Newly painted rooms throughout.

We have a spacious 80 feet of lakefront with one of the few, deep, shaded lots on the lake, complete with a grassy lawn. The lakefront is fenced and tall arbor vidae bushes provide privacy from the road. Walk from the lawn down to the concrete patio and large wooden dock. Enjoy the swing under the trees and watch the boats go by. Eat your meals on the dock under the sun umbrella, or soak up some sun and swim- you will have no trouble filling your days with fun and relaxation here. The second floor of the boathouse features a rec room and deck that provides expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains. This is a terrific spot for watching the Sunday sailboat races.

There are so many perfect places to sit and relax- in addition to the lakefront. The home has a large back deck with a wooden table and benches under a covered roof- another wonderful spot to enjoy breakfast or a game of cards.

If you ever want to leave the house, and no one will blame you if you don't, drive around the lake to Grotto Pizza or Jones' Potato Pancakes- two legendary restaurants. Jones' is cash only and has a very simple menu of freshly made potato pancakes, pierogies, and just a few other items. The Grotto has a formal dining room, a sports bar, and outside seating with views of the lake. The Grotto also delivers, so you don't actually need to leave the house! The pizza tastes best enjoyed on the dock on a summer evening!

Gorgeous Rickett's Glen State Park is located about 25 minutes from the house, and with multiple waterfalls and hiking trails, this is a must see. Tunkhannock and the Endless Mountains are about 20 minutes away. Tunkhannock's downtown features shops and restaurants, a renovated historic movie theater, and even a tasting room for a local winery.

Montage Mountain, Big Boulder, and Elk Mountain are the closest ski resorts, with Montage being the closest. Beautiful stone fireplace in The Lake House living room features a new electric fireplace for instant ambiance on a chilly day- perfect for a romantic getaway!

About Katie Tripp- Owner

I grew up in this house and I love this house, the Lake, and the wonderful community of people who live here. I'm looking forward to sharing this special place with others, so they can create wonderful memories here, as I have done, and continue to do.

Katie Tripp- Owner purchased this house in 1970

Why Katie Tripp- Owner chose Endless Mountains

This is a really unique property on the lake. The railroad used to run along where our house sits, so we have a wider lakefront than many. Having a shaded grassy yard on the lake side is almost non-existant on any other property here. The house is spacious and fun- lots of great places to gather or to give everyone their space. And there are so many outdoor spaces to enjoy. This is a beautiful area for vacationing, in any season. The autumn leaves are spectacular, as they reflect off the lake, and the hill behind the house is perfect for sledding- just stop at the back shed or else you might end up in the garden- I did that a few times as a kid. When the lake freezes, you can ice skate down by the boat launch where no one has docks that they bubble to keep the ice away. If you're lucky enough to be at the house when the crocuses pop up, or the hyacinth bloom, and the rhododendron show off their bright pink flowers, then you know it's spring and summer is just around the corner. You can walk bike ride around the lake, or just sit still and watch the cars go by. This is home.

What makes this house unique

The shaded lake front is unique. The layout of the property on the hill side allows you to access 'ground level' from all three stories of the house, as you move up the hill. With all the stairs, you'll be sure to get your workout in!

Nice property out at the lake

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay out at the lakeside retreat. The dock and boathouse were nice. We paddled around in the kayak and did some fishing, but did not catch any fish. The lake views from the boathouse and dock were very scenic and relaxing.

The cabin on the other side of the road was set on a steep cliff bank with 3 stories. At the top was a big deck in the back which from the side provided some nice lake views as did the bedroom on the 3rd floor. One nice feature was a big mature pear tree in the back that was overflowing with tasty pears.

We did have a few issues that would-be renters should be aware of:

1. The house has no television service although does have a large library of VHS tapes.

2. Due to the vertical nature of the house, the steps are very steep which could an issue for elderly or small children. We had a small dog who took a tumble when trying get down the steps from the second to the first floor.

3. Some parts are rather dated such as the boathouse room. Also the deck off of the third level of the house.

Overall though I would say if you are looking for a getting back-to-nature vacation, it is a nice place.

Returning summer guests who cherish our stays at Katie's lake house

  • 5 of 5

Our family returned to Katie's lake house for our 5th consecutive end-of-summer gathering. (See 4 previous very positive reviews by R.B.) What makes Katie's place such a stand-out compared with other lake rentals in northeast PA? The answer is her lake front environment --- a delightful, relaxing piece of the world. It starts with a fenced in, park-like shaded, grassy area, which leads to an oversized dock and boat slip extending out into the lake. There is a "kiddie" area with a sand-digging patch and low steps into lake for young ones; 10 feet deep, fresh water at the end of the dock for swimming or fishing; a two story boat house with a small, enclosed rec room; and a terrific patio overlooking the lake. Katie has equipped the lakefront with sturdy patio table/chair sets and umbrellas, an old fashioned wood swing with shaded cover, and a safe, fenced-in area for dogs.

If you are fortunate to have good weather, you will likely spend most of your stay here in this beautiful lakefront setting. For our first time, this year we did not have good weather. (We'll remember this as the week between hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and count our blessings that our weather was merely disappointing, not catastrophic.) So we spent more time indoors in Katie's 3 story, well furnished and comfortable house. The sleeping accommodations work well for everyone, from grandparents to infants, though the steep stairs may be a challenge for some. We brought a baby gate, and Katie graciously provided a crib and baby bath for our West Coast travelers. As usual, the entire house was very clean and well organized, with an old timey feel that we enjoy. No WiFi or TV --- a true escape.

Katie's lake house has become our 3-generation family's favorite annual gathering place. Thanks so much for sharing it with us, Katie.

A Great Place

  • 5 of 5

We spent two evenings there mid-week, and it was a wonderful place to unwind. The house is immaculate, though the downstairs had a faint oder of air freshener or perhaps having just been cleaned the room smelled of cleaner. Also, there is a note to not turn off the AC on the first floor, and it was COLD down there. Beyond that, the house is wonderful! We spent most of the time in the house on the second floor, which has a wonderful, cozy feeling to it. There are a lot of notes around, reminding the renter of things, and one was a note not to move the furniture, sitting on the coffee table. The funny thing is that the coffee table is so far away from the seats that it's useless unless it's moved a little closer. Also, the TV faces nothing. In other words, it's difficult not to slightly move the furniture to take advantage of the comfort of the place. We did not move the furniture. We found the notes here and there a bit much. We totally understand no renter would want the furniture rearranged. On the subject of "notes", the helpful hints book is really mostly another going over of the rules. However, I do want to say that the reminders to make sure the doors are locked when you leave did help me to remember. The notes may be important but it was amusing how many there are!

Besides the great feeling of the second floor, the third floor with the beautiful layout of the bedroom, and the big windows, was fun. It felt like we were in a high end resort! The property is fun too, with all sorts of stairways, big deck out back, little sitting areas, gardens. Delightful.

The best part of the whole experience, and one that sets this home apart is the boat house, as well as the very nice patio and dock. We sat on the dock most of the day, enjoying the sun, the water, the activity on the water. The water itself was great. We had wine and cheese on the upper deck of the boat house in the evening as the sun was setting. Awesome.

We did order from the local pizza place one night as well. They delivered ahead of schedule, were very nice, and the food was great.

We would definitely return to this place. Thank you.

Harveys Lake is a beautiful and fun vacation spot. During the summer, enjoy a swim in the lake, go boating, or watch the world go by while lounging on the dock. Drive to Jones' for Potato Pancakes or enjoy a piping hot pizza from the world famous Grotto Pizza. Venture out to the Endless Mountains for an afternoon of shopping in downtown Tunkhannock or drive out to Eagles Mere. Less than 30 minutes away is spectacular Rickett's Glen State Park, with its breathtaking waterfalls and superb hiking along a clear flowing stream. Enjoy fall in all its splendor, when the leaves come ablaze and local orchards offer apples and cider. The Lake provides a great winter retreat as well. Sled down the back hill on the property or drive down to the boat launch where the absence of impellers allow the lake to freeze up to the shoreline for ice skating. Spring time brings rhododendrons and new life to the trees, with the promise of summer just around the corner. Harveys Lake and the Endless Mountains provide an idyllic and relaxing retreat at any time of year.
