About Elizabeth & Jim

We have been visiting the Hawaiian islands together since 2001 and fell in love with the Big Island on our first visit! We are grateful to have this little retreat and to be able to share it with others. We hope you enjoy the island as much as we do!

Elizabeth & Jim purchased this condo in 2013

Why Elizabeth & Jim chose Kailua-Kona

We love this condo for its proximity to so many lovely places. It is within a very short distance to Banyans (surfing), White Sands (boogie boarding), and Kahalu'u (snorkeling) beaches. We can also walk into Kona and have a meal, listen to music or just watch the passers-by. We like to go to the farmers market in town to get fresh produce and flowers. The Kona Pier is a wonderful place to swim, or rent paddle boards and kayaks.

What makes this condo unique

We have included everything we need for a comfortable stay when we are on the island. We hope you find everything you need, too!

Kona Bali Kai is convenient to our favorite dive spots. We always check here first for our trips to Hawaii

Great value and location

  • 5 of 5

At $99 a night, this is a really good value for those who want to save a little money on accommodations so they have more money for adventures.

I really like this location. It is not right in the heart of downtown, so it’s much quieter and easier to get in and out of as you can avoid some of the worst traffic areas.

We are budget travelers so we often cook our own meals. This kitchen had everything you could need; blender, coffee grinder, and I really appreciated the butter in the fridge and the condiments, oil, vinegar, hot sauce etc. in the cupboard. I noticed they even had some sort of instant pot in one of the cupboards. You could even make cookies if you really wanted to.

The other thing I liked was that the kitchen was really functional. It’s just laid out in a way that makes things easy. Only downside was no dishwasher. But I wouldn’t expect one at this price point.

We did visit the pool briefly and it was nice, but it was no match for the tiny little beach and rocky tide pools. Kids spent hours beach combing and found some pretty awesome shells. All the while a turtle was napping quietly on the sand and another was flapping around in the tide pools.

I hung out and watched the kids and also watched the surfers right out beyond the rocky shore. Very fun.

At sunset my husband and I walked across the street to the same little beach, sat at the picnic table with a couple of beverages and watched the beautiful sunset. We saw many others doing the same thing and saw some people watching the sunset while grilling at the BBQs. Wish we’d thought of that. Next time.

The windows in the bedroom have no glass. They are large screens with shutters. We left the shutters open to take advantage of the breeze at night. In the morning we awoke to the sounds of lovely birds chirping happily in the trees. It was great and very tropical.

Bottom line, I would book here again.

Great location in Kona on Ali'i Drive

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this location, across the street from a small sandy beach where sea turtles came up in the afternoon, perfect location for my kids and I to come home to after our days out snorkeling and exploring.

Great bed and comfortable fully equipped unit. Great walk into town and trolley was good for a tour.

Loved our stay, need a car for getting around but the walk into town and trolley worked well when we didn’t have our rental. Loved the turtles on the beach across the street and awesome sunsets, then it is dark. Unit equipped with all you need,
