So unimpressed

  • 1 of 5

I am so incredibly dissatisfied by this hotel. Shari at the front desk started our stay off really great! She checked us in early so we were able to start our evening early without worrying about getting into our room. It went down hill from there. We waited for 20 minutes for the elevator (as we stayed on the seventh floor). When we finally got into the elevator, one of the servers almost pushed us out of the way to get on before us. I tried to make small talk with him, but he was incredibly rude. The beds were so uncomfortable, the pillows- although plentiful- we’re awful. I got up to shower at 3a because I was unable to sleep and couldn’t get the water warm enough to stand in. The room was clean, which was expected for the rate. Laying awake literally all night gave my husband and I plenty of time to reflect on our terrible experience at “The Aerie.” After being told we would not be seated in the restaurant due to the time (8:30p), we were told that we would need our IDs to sit in the bar. After going back to our room and returning to what seems to be the only restaurant- there may be another, but we were unable to locate it- we sat ourselves in the lounge. Our server ID’d us again and proceeded to pay just enough attention to bring us one what they called a $12 Moscow Mule and no menu. We sat and waited for 45 minutes for the opportunity to request our bill. We left annoyed to say the least, returned to our room in the one working elevator, and ordered room service. The room service was very prompt, not overly friendly, but the food was fantastic...but also hideously expensive ($31 for six wings and a chicken sandwich with fries). Currently, I am waiting for the sun to rise so I can get my car, drive down the mountain and go home. The biggest disappointment is that it’s gorgeous up here and this hotel seems very reliant on that. We will not be returning and we will not recommend this place to anyone.

Great family friendly hotel

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the Cliff Lodge over the 4th of July weekend and found good and bad.

We've been to the resort several times, so for the most part, knew what to expect.

Good:

This is a great resort with lots of activities for families & several different restaurants. Highly recommend the all-day activities pass & taking the tram ride. There's a cafeteria-style restaurant on top, great hiking, and amazing views. It's easy to get to this resort from the Salt Lake valley and a welcome break from the summer heat. The rooms aren't large, but they're big enough, nice & clean, and have amazing views. Service everywhere was very friendly - the people who work at this resort are all very nice and accommodating.

Bad:

Restaurants up here are expensive and there were issues with under-staffing, particularly at the more casual, less expensive spots. Our TV remote was not working - I called down to report this our first night & it was never fixed, so someone had to stand next to the TV to change channels, adjust the volume, etc.

We ordered room service one morning and it was not great and very expensive. I would recommend instead eating at the Forklift. There is a bakery / coffee shop in the hotel, but we never tried it, so I can't give it a review. If you don't valet, the parking lot is quite a distance from the hotel main entrance. I would recommend the valet next time.

All in all, it was a nice stay and I think we'll likely return.

Beautiful view!

  • 4 of 5

We had an incredible time at the Cliff Lodge dampened only by a shower that would not turn off until maintenance came and took it apart and a bathroom sink that wouldn't drain. Both seemed out of place in this beautiful lodge,
