About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 12-14)

Our lake home features a rustic mountain decor, high speed wireless internet, billiards room, 2 large covered porches in addition to a lakeside deck, fire pit, and private dock. Our two kayaks, canoe, and pontoon (included in rental during summer season) equipped with life jackets, ski ropes, and pull tubes are included with our home. By including a boat with our home you will save over $1500.00 in rental fees. We also have a 4 stroke jet ski that is available for rent during your lake vacation for an additional charge, please inquire for details.

This is our family lake home, not a sterile rental unit. It is furnished and appointed like you would expect a home to be. The beds all have pillow top mattresses with quilted comforters.

Most homes on Lake Nantahala have 75 to over 100 steps down a steep bank to the lake. Our home has a very gradual path of about 70 feet with about a dozen steps from the dock to the basement level of the house. Every summer we have guests who have stayed on the Lake somewhere else with many steps. Be sure to ask how many steps to the lake before you rent.

Our lakeside deck is the perfect place to relax and watch the children swim and roast marshmellows at night in the firepit area. Our home does have central heat and air, but because it is located at over 3000 foot of elevation you rarely need the air conditioning at night. Once you experience Lake Nantahala, vacationing on any other lake becomes out of the question.

Trout fishing in the Nantahala River is excellent all season long for fly fishing and spin casting. The Nantahala river hosted the 2011 USA National Fly Fishing Championships in May 2011. The river is located less than 10 minutes from our lake home. A North Carolina fishing license and Trout stamp is required. We can set you up with a licensed guide upon request.

Located about twenty minutes from our lake home is the Nantahala Outdoor Center voted by Good Morning America and National Geographic Adventure Magazine as the #1 family vacation spot in America for vacations with a splash. The Nantahala River hosted the 2013 World Freestyle Kayaking Championships with athletes from over 50 Countries participating. The Nantahala River also hosted a World Cup Freestyle event in 2012 as a test event for the World Championships 2013.

When planning your Nantahala vacation, be sure to include a White Water rafting trip for the whole family down the Nantahala. Then dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, The Rivers End Cafe.

Please inquire on availability of the boat toward the end of summer/fall. Boat will be available dependent on the lake levels.

Fishing Special: 4 nights, up to 4 people, including fishing boat $999.00 including all taxes. Also includes exclusive access to 2 miles of private river frontage on the premier Trout Stream in North Carolina. We provide lake maps & bait suggestions. Full guided service is also available. Offer good Sept 15th-May 15th every year. Additional people $50.00 per person, per night.

Couples Getaway: 3 nights, 2 people only, $399.00. Rate not available for more than 2 people. Offer good Sept 15th-May 15th every year.

Lake Nantahala has 3,800 surface acres and over 42 miles of shoreline, of which 97% is Nantahala National Forest. The Nantahala National Forest consists of 4 forests, the Pisgah, Nantahala, Uwharrie, and Croatan which all together make up 1.2 million acres. Nantahala National Forest consists of a hiker's paradise with over 1,300 miles of hiking trails, numerous waterfalls, more than 800 campsites, 490 picnic sites, 7 swimming beaches, 11 wilderness areas, numerous lakes, plus hundreds of miles of rivers and streams, including two nationally recognized wild and scenic rivers. Lake Nantahala has the 2nd highest surface elevation east of the Mississippi at 3,100 foot of elevation. Lake Nantahala is a beautiful area with pristine crystal clear water. Lake Nantahala is one of the top fishing lakes in the South East. Walleye, Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Bluegill, Crappie, Small Mouth and Large Mouth Bass are plentiful in the lake. March, April, and May are excellent for Walleye , Small Mouth and Brown Trout. June, July, and August are when the Bluegills are bedding. The first full moon in September heats up for fall fishing. Once you experience Lake Nantahala, vacationing on any other lake becomes out of the question.

What makes this house unique

Lake Nantahala is the most beautiful pristine in the Southeast. It is always in the top ten cleanest lakes in America. The lake is a high elevation lake with steep banks. Make sure to ask how many steps to the lake before you rent a home on Lake Nantahala . We picked our lot because it is one of only a very few on the lake that does not require dozens of steps to get to the lake.

beautiful house and setting, primitive electronics

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house and the setting. The rooms were spacious and well-furnished and the layout of the rooms led to a natural separation of the group of teenagers from the group of adults. We would definitely consider staying here again.

But the entertainment and Internet options were primitive at best. There was only one working DVD player in the house and it was not reliable. The Direct-TV picture reception was fine but the fact that there are three TVs but you can only watch one channel in the whole house was a real issue, esp. since it rained for our entire week and the TV was essential. And the satellite Internet would have been fine but the Hughes Satellite Internet service they use only provides 5 GB for the entire month. And, since we were there in the last week of the month, the tenants from the previous three week had used up the entire 5 GB. So we had trouble even simply checking email for the entire week.

I know, we were on a beautiful lake and should have been happy with the locale but with 5 teenagers the lack of connectivity became a real issue, esp since our outdoor options were limited by the weather.

Perfect for our families

  • 5 of 5

Here is the number 1 thing I review that can make or break a place....did I sleep good? YES!!! The bed was amazing and it was cool in the house at night! It was very comfortable.

*The three levels of bedrooms was perfect. My wife and I slept on the main floor in the master. My cousin and his family stayed in the loft and the our teen boys had the bottom floor to themselves with the pool table. Everyone had their own space.

*Having the boat was so nice and easy to drive to the marina for gas.

*The house was comfy and everyone loved the layout.

*The lake was super and perfect swimming temperature.

*Gas grill rocked!!

*Campfire pit was perfect!

*Canoes and kayaks were great to have.

*Nice beach toys and water skis!

*Kitchen had a nice assortment of pots, pans, etc...

*Lots of cool hummingbirds that came to visit!

Things that were...'eh'.....

*Slow Internet but hey...we are in the mountains we were happy to have anything.

*Far away from stores.

*For a family cabin I wish there were a better selection of games.

*Steep walk down to the beach....and UP! (Ugh)

*Wish each TV could have had its own channel.

Would I go back??

Oh yes. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to make great memories with their family! Book it!

We did a whitewater raft trip that week that everyone loved!

Thanks for a super stay!

Lake Nantahala is great

  • 5 of 5

Our family has six adults and seven kids. Finding a place to put us all in a bed is hard. My wife found this home a few years back and it is always perfect. It came with a pontoon boat and we rented two jet skies from them too. Our whole family agrees this was the most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. Some of us have been here before. We cooked out every night on the grill and had bonfires until late in the fire pit. The weather was great. I would guess the lake was about 80 degrees which is much warmer than we expected because it is over 3000 foot of elevation. Then views from the home are unbelievable. We recommend this to any family looking for a peaceful, fun vacation. We also went whitewater rafting one day. It was about 20 minutes from the house.

Owners are great and their caretaker Stan is the man. We got a rope caught in the jet ski (our fault) and he was there in about two hours, pulled the jet ski to the ramp and fixed it. He had it back to us in three hours. That is service.

We fished a few times and caught a smallmouth bass and a bunch of brim. We seen some huge trout but they would not bite. Stan said fishing is best before June and after August.

We will be back next summer. We booked the week we left. Two years ago we waited too long and ended up not getting a lake house. Stan said book early all the good houses on the lake are gone by October for the following summer.

The only thing we would change is adding a couple more chairs or a table in the basement. We played pool every night and needed a couple more seats or bar stools.

Awesome trip to Lake Nantahala!!

  • 5 of 5

What a great trip! The property was beautiful and as advertised. The pictures do not do it justice. The space is large and can comfortably fit several families. We enjoyed the pontoon boat and fished. Though we didn't find fish, we did find am amazing waterfall in the western area of the lake. We went hiking up at Wayah Bald so that we can say we have been on the Appalachian Trail! The boys loved horseback riding and had I been a bit quicker on the reservations we would have hit the zip lines at NOC.

This lake home is amazing and well worth the trip. The owner was very helpful as was his caretaker Stan. We hope to come back in the summer months some day.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

Lake Nantahala may be the most beautiful place left east of the Rockies. Although it rained some we hiked the Apl trail and Bartrum trail which are both near the house. We built a huge bonfire from drift wood on the beach and cooked hotdogs like when I was a kid.

The home is great for large groups. The owners are easy to work with. We will be back in the Summer.
