Expansive grass area with a mountain creek running through property, surrounded by beautiful flowers

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at this lovely mountain home. The property has a tremendous space for playing with our border collies (soccer and Frisbee) and they loved wading, lounging, and swimming in the creek. We did not do any fly fishing but there are trout in the creek so you could enjoy fishing. There is a great deck for sitting in the sun taking in the serenity and beauty and a gas and charcoal grill for barbecuing. The house is very lovely and comfortable and clean with a well-stocked kitchen and plenty of towels and linens. The master bedroom on the main floor has one of the most comfortable mattresses that we have ever slept on in any vacation rentals we have stayed. The location is convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Lake Toxaway and Saphire Valley and Brevard and the Dupont National Park as well as many great hiking trails with waterfalls. The owners are very thoughtful and responsive to anything you may need to contact them for. They are gracious, welcoming and highly accommodating to their guests. I would highly recommend this property for a mountain vacation. One word of advice about the unpaved driveway, there is on somewhat steep section that you do need to accelerate on the incline (when you are exiting the property) just past the bridge before you are at the last stretch of unpaved road before you are at the highway. If you have an all-wheel drive vehicle, it should not be a problem. We have a front wheel drive mini-van so we did have to make sure that we accelerated on the incline stretch to maintain good traction. Entering the driveway from the highway is not a problem since there is not an incline driving to the house from the highway. The driveway situation does not deter us from renting the house again as we are already planning to return next July for a third time there. We absolutely love the Broad River Lodge!

The house has everything you would need. Not sure who had more fun, me or my dog. Looking forward to coming back again next year.

The house and property were perfect for for us and our 2 border collies with ample open yard & creek

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful mountain home. The house was spacious and clean and comfortably furnished. The master bedroom queen mattress is one of the most comfortable we have slept on and the linens are very high quality. The kitchen was well-equipped and the washer and dryer are excellent. The deck surrounding the main floor is great with a charcoal grill and furniture and there is a nice wooden porch swing on the ground floor deck. The open yard area and mountain creek that runs along the back of the property was fantastic for us to play ball and swim and play in the creek with our 2 border collies. We enjoyed this outdoor space so much we wished that we could have spent the entire summer there!

The only downside is the gravel driveway that has a portion of it on an incline that makes it challenging to traverse in a front-wheel drive Chrysler minivan. It is a bit nervewracking when you are exiting the property and hit this short stretch of the driveway since it is difficult to get traction on the gravel. I believe that a 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle may not have this problem.

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home and property so much that we will most likely return next summer. Also, I wanted to mention that the owners are very nice and responsive if you need to call them about anything.

Another great feature of staying here is that it is relatively close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and other nice hiking/waterfall sites.

While we have only stayed here twice, my three boys refer to this house as “our mt. house” to all of their friends… as they grow (now 9, 11, and 12), their experiences change and their appreciation of being here deepen. With that, the requests to go to "our mt. house" grow everyday. Beach kids want to go to the mountains. I didn’t think we could top our first stay, but we did. The house is insanely perfect for anyone who wants luxury, seclusion, great fishing, and the sound of flowing water during a drink on the deck. There is plenty of room for those who want to get a group together; there is even more for those who want to be alone with their family. We drove 20 mins for their first horseback ride through the Pisgah Forest ... we drove another 20 mins for their first "real" mt. bike ride in DuPont National Forest... and they caught their first native trout (3) within 10 mins of the house on a random trail that led to an unmarked waterfall that may be one of the prettiest in the area (they caught 3 rainbows at the house before that!). There are great shops and restaurants in Brevard. I am a big fan of my kids' "mt. house!"
