I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and have been coming to this area nearly every summer since the 1970's. This new log cabin was completed in 2012 on property that has been in the family since then the 70's.
Phyl Wenkstern purchased this cabin in 2012
Brand new, beautiful log home located in an ideal location to enjoy all the area has to offer.
Fly fish or walk down stone steps to wade or tube in front yard. River shoes are recommended for wading and/or tubing. Several acres of open field suitable for activities of all kinds to be enjoyed by children and their pets in a safe and secluded environment well protected from the road.
The house has everything you would need. Not sure who had more fun, me or my dog. Looking forward to coming back again next year.

We loved every square inch of this property. The house was the perfect mountain home and had everything we needed. The kids loved playing in the yard, fishing in the river and exploring the property. The owners were great as well! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us! We hope to visit again soon!
We truly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful mountain home. The house was spacious and clean and comfortably furnished. The master bedroom queen mattress is one of the most comfortable we have slept on and the linens are very high quality. The kitchen was well-equipped and the washer and dryer are excellent. The deck surrounding the main floor is great with a charcoal grill and furniture and there is a nice wooden porch swing on the ground floor deck. The open yard area and mountain creek that runs along the back of the property was fantastic for us to play ball and swim and play in the creek with our 2 border collies. We enjoyed this outdoor space so much we wished that we could have spent the entire summer there!
The only downside is the gravel driveway that has a portion of it on an incline that makes it challenging to traverse in a front-wheel drive Chrysler minivan. It is a bit nervewracking when you are exiting the property and hit this short stretch of the driveway since it is difficult to get traction on the gravel. I believe that a 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle may not have this problem.
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home and property so much that we will most likely return next summer. Also, I wanted to mention that the owners are very nice and responsive if you need to call them about anything.
Another great feature of staying here is that it is relatively close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and other nice hiking/waterfall sites.

While we have only stayed here twice, my three boys refer to this house as “our mt. house” to all of their friends… as they grow (now 9, 11, and 12), their experiences change and their appreciation of being here deepen. With that, the requests to go to "our mt. house" grow everyday. Beach kids want to go to the mountains. I didn’t think we could top our first stay, but we did. The house is insanely perfect for anyone who wants luxury, seclusion, great fishing, and the sound of flowing water during a drink on the deck. There is plenty of room for those who want to get a group together; there is even more for those who want to be alone with their family. We drove 20 mins for their first horseback ride through the Pisgah Forest ... we drove another 20 mins for their first "real" mt. bike ride in DuPont National Forest... and they caught their first native trout (3) within 10 mins of the house on a random trail that led to an unmarked waterfall that may be one of the prettiest in the area (they caught 3 rainbows at the house before that!). There are great shops and restaurants in Brevard. I am a big fan of my kids' "mt. house!"
We just got back from a week long stay at this cabin with our three children, ages 8, 10, and 12. The cabin is exactly as described and I would say that the property is even better! The cabin sits on a beautiful lot, with acres of flat land in front of the River to "play" on and acres of woods to explore behind the cabin. We did not have good weather for most of our stay, but the kids still had a blast. The cabin is a bit remote, about 25 minutes to the town of Brevard. The town of Brevard is really cute with many good restaurants and shops. Our kids loved Brevard's toy store and the old fashion soda shop! We also enjoyed a few hours of shopping/dining in Hendersonville, a beautiful town about a 45 minute drive from the cabin. Our favorite family activity during our vacation was going hiking at Mt Pisgah Nat'l Park! Beautiful trails and gorgeous waterfalls that everyone enjoyed!
The owner of the cabin, Phyl, is wonderful to work with. We had a few "bumps" during our stay and they were quickly fixed!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful cabin with us!
Our family stayed at this property recently and had one of our most memorable Thanksgivings ever. The view from the road as you approach over a bridge is picture perfect. The house is a wonderful log home with all modern amenities, very clean and well maintained with plenty of room for our family of 9 (2 of us stayed nearby but spent the day time here together) to stretch out and relax and socialize. The owners are just wonderful to work with and helped me to get organized to plan such a big weekend. You can enjoy the river from the wide open front porch or a swing below, or just sit down by the bank. Our granddaughters took paper plates and picnic items out by the river to play "house". We enjoyed watching the football games inside by a nice fire. This is a very quiet area with low traffic. My husband practiced his fly casting on the river one afternoon and then fished nearby with a guide. We had a wonderful family photos made before leaving. Trips into Toxaway and Brevard were short drives. We plan on returning as often as possible!!
Located in remote mountainous area of Transylvania County in the Pisgah National Forest. The area is referred to as the Land of Waterfalls with over 250 waterfalls nearby. The area is a mecca for fly fishermen, as there are many rivers within one hour to fish year round. An abundance of hiking and mountain biking trails are also everywhere in the area from high mountain tops to lower mountainous terrain.
