About the property

Every room has a view! This lovely property is located 2 miles from downtown Highlands on beautiful Sagee Mountain. The grounds feature a stream and waterfall, sitting areas, and flower gardens.

As owners and architects we designed and built this house. It features 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms on 2 levels. The home has 3 decks and three balconies.

The spacious living room features a wood burning fireplace, antiques, and sitting areas perfect for cocktail parties. The galley kitchen opens outdoors to a deck, and features pull-out drawers in all cabinets for easy access and great storage capabilities. The large, open dining room features a built-in buffet with additional storage and serving utensils.

The master bedroom has a large walk-in closet/dressing room, and the bathroom area has double sinks. Private bath/toilet area includes a bidet and bathtub.

A den/office located downstairs features a wood burning stove, TV area, built-in computer station, and large desk.

The second and third bedrooms are also located downstairs, with adjoining balcony and deck, respectively. The second full bathroom is accessed from the hallway that services the two bedrooms and the den.

This home has windows in every room, providing light and views throughout the day.

As a local resident, I am in town and on-call 24 hours a day, if anything is needed.

About Valerie Burner

VRBO Asks: About You: In 1989 we were living on Captiva Island, FL. My husband was an architect and I was a landscape architect. We collaborated on numerous projects and received many awards for projects such as Safety Harbor Club, Upper Captiva, Seawatch of Boca Grande, Boca Bay on Boca Grande, Palm Island, and Useppa Island Club. My husband was coined 'The Father of the Old Florida Style' of architecture in the late 70's and early 80's, as he brought back features such as palladian windows, metal roofs, and wraparound porches. He was featured in several magazines, including Southern Living. After we married, he retired and I became a housewife.

Why Valerie Burner chose Highlands

VRBO Asks: Why This Property? We were on our way to the Blue Ridge Mountains in VA to look at property, and came through this area on the advice of friends. We never made it to VA that trip! We fell in love with the town! To me, it was reminiscent of my favorite place, Interlaken, Swizerland.

We drove around and were shown many properties and homes in Highlands. On our own, we drove through this neighborhood. We loved the stone gate posts, the very private feeling of the homes, and the fact that it had a 'loop' for walking dogs, or simply for exercise and enjoyment.

The property itself was the only one for sale on Sagee, and the lot was anything but easy. Later, several people said they would have bought it, but could not figure out how to build on such a challenging site!

We chose to work WITH the contours, rather than trying to build retaining walls or unduly disturbing the earth, and designed the house according to the SE and SW facing slopes.

What makes this house unique

Perched at 4,000', surrounded by Forest Service land, overlooking Georgia and South Carolina. Luxury, stream and waterfall, outdoor living areas with lots of space and privacy, on private road in safe, friendly neighborhood. 2 miles from town!

Absolutely wonderful! Perfect holiday get away.

What a wonderful house!!! The pictures and description really do not do justice of the home. Awesome views, great location, and a hostess who really took time to inform us of the house and the community. A definite must stay if you visit the Highlands

Unbelievable view

  • 5 of 5

The mountain view from this house is just stunning - much more beautiful than the pictures I thought. The large windows in every room facing the mountains just were so enjoyable. House is clean, comfortable, very organized and full of beautiful antiques. My family enjoyed the stay!

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

I can only reinforce what others have written.....the house is excellent in every way. We just returned from a short visit with another couple, and the house was perfect for us with the spacious bedrooms and huge living areas. We highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to be close to town, but not right in downtown HIghlands where parking can be a challenge.

Superb!

  • 5 of 5

Everything is right about this property. We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving break. The house is thoughtfully planned and attractively and very comfortably furnished. Everything you require is provided and the owner is nearby, always available and could not be more helpful. The views from the house are breathtaking and never the same twice. A sprinkling of snow one morning made it all the more magical. The neighborhood is quiet, private but very friendly. Amazingly, the town of Highlands, with all its amenities, is but five minutes' drive. The property and neighborhood are extremely dog-friendly. We would recommend this property unreservedly and hope to return before too long.

My family and I had a great stay during thanksgiving. The house had everything we needed to prepare thanksgiving dinner. We really enjoyed the fireplace during our visit. Also, it was very accommodating for our dogs. The views really are breathtaking!

Lovely Luxury Home In Upscale Area

  • 5 of 5

Charming, immaculate and luxurious home. Beautifully designed and executed. The gardens are beautiful. The waterfall is by your bedroom window. The location was fabulous. The mountain views were spectacular. Every room has a view.

The neighborhood itself is unique. Private, but really friendly. Not only were the neighbors incredibly friendly, the neighborhood was incredibly dog friendly. Such nice people. If you want to travel with your dogs and you want luxurious accommodations, this is the place. The town even offers a nice dog park. If you want the good gossip in a small town and want to meet interesting characters, go to the dog park. BTW, there is a great trail adjacent to the dog park.

There were numerous trails right in the neighborhood to hike. The neighborhood is part of a land trust. The house is maybe a five minute drive from the charming town of Highlands.

The owner was very helpful and gracious. She made it really easy to enjoy ourselves. Everything was in good working order. We didn't have any problems. We just can't say enough nice things.
