About John Durham

John and Carla look forward to sharing their lake place with you. We retired from Georgia to Alabama and have a small farm nearby where we raise registered Kinder goats, Dexter cattle and Tamworth hogs. A big but welcome change from medicine and the corporate business world. We would love to have you come for a farm tour while you are staying at our lake place.

John Durham purchased this house in 2003

Why John Durham chose Lineville

We chose to purchase The Plumb Line because of the remarkable beauty and relative isolation of the site, yet its close proximity to everything you need. The peace and quiet of the lake is a perfect place to pause and make sure our lives are truly plumb and not out of kilter.

What makes this house unique

Perhaps it will be the rope swings on the back porch as you watch the sunrise, the view of the sunset from the upper deck of the dock, or the lazy day that you spend on the lake in your own private cove without seeing another boat or jet ski, but one way or the other you will be changed by your visit to The Plumb Line.

Beautiful home on the lake, perfect for a family get-away!

  • 5 of 5

My adult children and grandchild joined me for the weekend after Thanksgiving and we had an absolutely wonderful time! Each family had their own bedroom with private bath, the kitchen was furnished with everything we needed, and the open living area was an excellent gathering place for family times. Thankfully the weather was perfect so we were able to spend some time outside and relax in the hammocks on the screened porch, too. It's a beautiful home on the lake, peaceful and quiet. We absolutely loved our getaway and highly recommend this place!

Perfect weekend at the Lake!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The location is great, the gentle sloping lot is a plus. The back screened in porch was so relaxing. The beds were all super comfy. Loved that every bedroom had its own bath. We rented last minute and the process was super easy. We definitely plan on staying here again.

Nice relaxing week!

  • 4 of 5

Very nice log built house! We enjoyed the multiple swings on the porch and the easy accessible dock although we did not use the upper deck. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very roomy and comfy! The kitchen had all the appliances we needed as we cooked every meal (except for some reason we could not find a spatula for the eggs). The only thing we had trouble with was the wifi did not work while we were there, but I'm told they have it. The DVD player did not work well as some movies played and others did not or kept messing up. Overall, it was a nice quiet getaway with a nice quiet lake to go boating. Our teenagers had a great time Thank you for the use of your home!

Nice home with lots of room. Bathrooms are wonderful. Kitchen was great. Nice view, dock, grill. It is 3 beds and a hide away couch. So bring a blow up if you have trouble sleeping on a hide away. Easy drive to Talladega speedway. This house is in a dry county so plan ahead!

Perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have spent several summer vacations here. The house never disappoints. Each time we return we're taken back by how gorgeous the home is, how peaceful the lake view is, and how PRIVATE the lot is.

Great dock! Great lawn for sunbathing! Great space for entertaining (the kitchen gets an A++).

Relaxing weekend

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a relaxing couple of nights at this beautiful lake home in Wedowee, AL. The view from the dining room and family room was enough for me. Such beauty and peacefulness. I would highly recommend this home if you want to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle of the big city life. We did not have access to a boat, but we do have friends with property here who say it is definitely a must have for this lake. I was okay without one, but can understand the more adventure loving people to need one. There is a nice little restaurant near town located across from the marina where we enjoyed some delicious catfish filets, cole slaw, and jalepeno cornbread which was recommended by the owner. Other than this restaurant, there aren't many more to choose from, so you will be cooking and grilling at the lake. The owner was friendly and returned calls and emails promptly. We definitely plan to return.

Car: necessary

Lake Wedowee is 800 feet above sea level and is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachain Mountains only 20 miles from Alabama's highest peak, Mt Cheaha. Formed by the RL Harris hydroelectric dam just south of the confluence of the Tallapoosa and Little Tallapoosa Rivers this approximately 12,000 acre lake is considered one of the cleanest lakes east of the Mississippi River due to the sparse population and agricultural runoff in its watershed. With 75% of the shoreline undeveloped it is very peaceful and is almost like having your own private mountain lake.
