Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, Loft, (sleeps four), 1 Bathroom

Cabin is ideal for couples, anniversaries, and honeymooners. Located within Whaleshead Beach Resort and Spa. There is a hot tub on the wrap around deck to enjoy the beautiful ocean and forest views as well as ooohhh those starry nights . The cabin sits up high in a small valley overlooking the ocean with the fog drifting in and out carrying with it that moist clean smell of the ocean and the forest. Watching the storms come in is one of our favorite things to do. The ever changing view sometimes feels like your in a treehouse. The Samuel Boardman State Park trails are breathtaking and you can catch the trail about five minutes away near the entrance to Whaleshead Beach. The Jedediah Smith Redwoods are 30 mins South. One hour South is the not to be missed

Prairie Creek State Park and Fern Canyon (where parts of Jurassic Park was filmed) with Elk viewing. Horseback riding on the beach is only 20 minutes North. Many eateries with tasty treats and entertainment in Brookings, six miles South. Be sure to book an appointment in the Spa after a day of adventure (541-671-8751). Usually after a day or two of adventure, we and our guests simply fire up the BBQ and set back in the deck rocker or hot-tub to enjoy watching the many varieties of birds: wild turkeys, stellar jays, and quail, hummingbirds and occasional osprey to name a few. During the months of the whale migration (December-January) you might get lucky enough to spot a whale or two. But many guests have seen whales year round. We have binoculars available for your search.

There are queen beds in both the master bedroom and the loft. It is one small step up into cabin but a very steep stairwell to the loft. Ceiling is low in the loft and unless your miniature, you can't stand up. Not recommended for children because the loft has an open area small children could fall through.

We are located six miles North of Brookings, Oregon and just ten miles from the Northern Califonia Border.

We have a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, pots, pans. Coffee and a small amount of spices. We enjoy the ocean view while we're cooking.

There is a coin operated laundromat on the resort property, but not in the cabin.

The Living Room has a queen size sleeper sofa, a recliner and big overstuffed chair. Perfect for lying around and doing NOTHING! . There is a 42" TV with DVD/VHS Player, free WiFi. Another TV is located in the master bedroom. There is a small library of DVD's and VHS movies and books available. Many board games, cards, and puzzles. Unfortunately our small propane fireplace is out of service to be replaced soon.

About Linda & Jim Sanford

We live in Northern California. Jim recently retired from the CCC Board of Education, where he was an administrator/instructor of a drug and alcohol abuse prevention program.

Linda is an RN at Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. We have two children, six grandchildren and our new Great-Grandbaby.

Linda & Jim Sanford purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Linda & Jim Sanford chose Southern Coast

We accidently found Whaleshead Resort when we were beachcombing at Whaleshead Beach across the street. We saw some construction going on and decided to drive over and ask some questions. We fell in love with the place and started the rocky road of building our piece of paradise.

What makes this cabin unique

Oh the view is beautiful and ever changing. Whaleshead Beach and the many trails will take your breath away. A spa just opened at the resort in Oct of 2016. Appt. can be made by phone at 541-671-8751. I (Linda) and my niece just had a massage and facial there in October. We both enjoyed not only the fantastic massage/facial, but the ambiance was lovely as well.

Part of a Cluster, But Very Private

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was in a resort with lots of others, but its location near the top of the hill made it feel like you were in a more isolated spot. We liked it as a place to relax, and as a base to do some exploring around Brookings and further north on the coast.

The view of the hills and the ocean every morning was beautiful and changeable. The cottage itself was tastefully and minimally furnished, which meant it was comfortable, and home-like, but you also had room to put your own guidebooks and maps on the coffee table. We cooked in the well-supplied kitchen every night, because it was so quiet and peaceful just to stay there. Everything was super clean, the beds were luxurious, and the hot tub great to get into in the cool Oregon coast evenings.

Owner's Response: Thank you Susan for taking the time to give us such a lovely review. It is always a joy for us to hear people's experiences at the cabin. We live a good distance away (400 miles) so it is a bit of a challenge keeping the place comfortable and well maintained. Hopefully, you made it down to the beach and were able to hike one of the Samuel Boardman Park trails....another world there as well. And, of course, the Redwoods ......they are to be experienced as words can never convey their beauty. I myself am pining to just be there for awhile. Happy Trails & Thank you again...., Linda

Relaxation at its finest!!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a getaway with Pacific Ocean views, nestled in large beautiful trees, humming birds enjoying the flowers just feet from your deck, deer frolicking, steam coming from a hot tub as the morning mist rolls over you before giving away to the sun, then this cabin is for you. My wife and I enjoyed this little slice of perfection for 3 nights on a getaway from our everyday (getting away from our kids and dogs as well!!). Already in love with the southern Oregon coastal area, this cabin made us feel as if we were completely alone in a far off land leaving all the ills of the world bottled away and those ills could not reach us. It is a perfect cabin for a couple and our ONLY complaint is that we had to leave it. The owners were very communicative and welcoming. We felt a true sense that they enjoy sharing this awesome property. The cabin is located in the Whaleshead Beach Resort and honestly is the best located cabin in the entire resort for views and privacy. Remote enough to get away yet located well for anything you want to do from Crescent City, CA to Reedsport, OR.

Great view.

Desperately needed a washer and drier. Invest in a better mattress for beds.

Owner's Response: Hi Terry, We are sincerely sorry to hear that the beds weren't comfortable for you. That is a challenge for us as we are always inquiring about the comfort of the beds and they are fairly new with a layer of memory foam on top of the mattress. One quest says they are luxurious, while another isn't comfortable. We appreciate you letting us know and will look into this further. We do let guests know in our Home Away/VRBO listing that we don't provide a washer or dryer in the cabin itself, but the resort does have a launderette available. Best Regards, Linda

Great place, very peaceful, amazing veiw, amesome location!

I stayed here with my Husband for 2 nights about 2 weeks ago. We loved it! We didn't want to leave! The cabin is really nice, very comfortable, very clean and had everything we needed. The view is spectacular. The hot tub is fantastic. The hot tub is brand new and works great. We really enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub at night under the moon and stars listening to the ocean waves below. The location is really great. Right in the middle of the Samuel H. Boardman scenic corridor which is a gorgeous stretch of coastline with several short hikes to amazingly beautiful beaches. The cabin is in the Whaleshead Resort, which is like a little neighborhood of cabins nestled into the hillside overlooking Whaleshead beach. This cabin is almost at the top of the hill overlooking the roof tops of most the other cabins and seemed like it probably has the best view of all the cabins. It's quite private and very quiet (except slight road noise during the day from the highway below). We bought fresh fish from a local fish market and grilled it on the BBQ on the deck. It was wonderful. We had a really great experience and would definitely stay here again.
