Lovely building, beautiful beach

First the best beach by far anywhere. Flat, lovely sand. Beautiful clear sea. Not too turbulent. Easy safe swimming. Natural surroundings. Lovely area to walk and safe. Easy walk to the best shops and restaurants. Under ten minutes. Lovely swimming pools and many. Super clean and large. Lovely vegetation and gardens. Quiet resort. Two hundred rooms and often not fully occupied makes for a quiet undisturbed atmosphere. Some lively entertainment at night. Room is clean. Bed is great. But rooms are not large. Shower is tiny and a little grundgy. Staff is variable. Mostly friendly. I speak Spanish and most staff speak only Spanish. I am picky about food. And food is average at best. And often a weak version of takeout. Did not much fancy any of the food. This puts me off the fully inclusive vacation option in future. Usually food in most fully unclusive is dissapointing. Room service menu is horrible. Bar fridge understocked. A few cheap beers, colas and water. Some nuts and chips. At the price of close to $1000 a day the food is completely unacceptable. Add poor service. Often forgetting items you ordered either at the restaurant or for room service. Staff also seem to ignore the do not disturb sign. Gym at this resort has improved since my last visit here and is adequate. Better than many. Generally above average experience. Excellent beach, pool and ocean. It is within the lovely gated community of PlayaCar within ten minutes of Quinta Avenida.

Buyer Beware

While the location of this hotel is exceptional, please be aware that this place has some problems. I visited just last week with a few friends.

The hotel was first unwilling to provide a reservation at one of its restaurants despite us making a reservation 3 days prior to our arrival. They claimed they were full. This is obviously never the case at an all inclusive- they simply didn't want to lose the money on another guest eating its food.

The food was poor overall. My friend and I both became sick by our 3rd day at the resort. He actually ended up missing 3 days of work following the trip due to some sort of illness.

Most importantly, the offer you see for this hotel is a bait and switch. They offer a $500 resort credit. This is why I booked it through Expedia. This turned out to be a lie. Upon arrival at the hotel, they will quickly make you sign a document stating your understanding of the "credit" being nothing more than a few miscellaneous discounts that could possibly lead up to $500. A discount is certainly not a credit. After being pressed on this, both the hotel and Expedia claimed there was nothing that they could do to help.

Perfect getaway!

My husband and I booked this trip last minute and we were a little nervous but we ended up with an amazing vacation. The rooms were nice, the beach was gorgeous, the service was outstanding, the food was incredible (and that surprised me, I haven't had good luck with all-inclusive resorts in the past). I highly recommend. We will go back for sure. We met so many couples that were repeat guests.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The Good:

- staff are really quite nice

- bed was fairly comfortable

- grounds were pretty

- main pools were a good temperature and were clean

- some of the meals were exceptional

The Bad:

- the room temperature would not go below 24C (75F), despite setting at 15C

- curtains did not "black out" the light whatsoever

- restaurants appeared understaffed

- cups were strewn around the pool, even in the early morning from the night before

- phones went out for 4-6 hours (i.e., no resort services from the room)

- "alcohol" in the minifridge consisted of two lukewarm modelos (yes, that's it)

- the complimentary wine selection consisted of two reds and two whites

The Ugly:

- you cannot order any more than one drink to the room at a time (i.e., no wine bottles)

- people were permitted to wake up at the early hours and reserve poolside chairs with magazines, then not show up to claim the seats until the late afternoon/evening

- if you do not reserve a restaurant more than 24 hours in advance, then you're likely out of luck (better accept room service, if the phones work)

- there were no towels available at the pool... for three hours

- we tried to get bicycles, which are an advertised service, and every single bicycle was said to be broken

- we reserved the Azia, a hibachi grill we were very excited to experience, and they sat us in the corner (without a hibachi show)

- the absolute worst experience we had was at the grill. I was very unhappy with my ribeye and asked instead for g

Absolutely pathetic.

Door lock never worked. Room was on third floor and app 100 yards from the main hotel. Had to go to office three to four times a day as the lock ( electronic) never worked more than 10 minutes. They even reprogrammed the lock 4 times.

Rust in bath tub..

Ceiling leaked water all over luggage and clothes twice....

after 4 days and the night before our departure they offered us a different room. Really??? Upon checkout they offered us two free night on our next trip!!! Not!!
