Otter Lodge - Mountain luxury! Blue Ribbon fishing in front yard, awesome views!

Bedrooms 3
Property type lodge
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Lodge, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bath (Sleeps 6 in beds, max 8 in home)

The Otter Lodge occupies one of the most unique locations in the U.S. Its five acres are situated on a family homestead and the property is fronted by Duck Creek and the Duck Creek pond, both of which offer some of the best blue ribbon trout fishing in the West.

The property is less than 1/4 mile from Yellowstone National Park on its east side, and offers easy access (within 1/4 mile) to both Yellowstone Park and Gallatin National Forest.

This home offers breathtaking views of nature at its finest and is in a truly spectacular setting.

Wildlife Viewing: Duck Creek Retreat and the immediate surrounding area is rich in wildlife, including bison, elk, deer, moose, grizzly bear, black bear, otter, beaver, muskrat, Canadian geese, ducks, Trumpeter swan and Sandhill cranes.

Fishing: World class fishing is available on private Duck Creek and Duck Creek Pond. A professionally installed fish ladder permits runs of wild Brown and Rainbow trout from the Madison River and nearby Hebgen Lake. Native Brook trout also inhabit the pond and Brown trout up to 32 inches have been caught and released. A Montana fishing license is not required to fish on the Pond, but it is on other Montana waters. A Yellowstone Park license is required to fish inside the Park.

The west entrance to Yellowstone Park and the town of West Yellowstone are only a short 8.5 mile (14km) drive away, W. Yellowstone offers everything you'd hope to find in a destination resort town, from restaurants, live theater, museums and shopping to equipment rentals and guide services.

We can offer recommendations on a variety of local guides and outfitters - call us to find out more!

Very satisfied

  • 5 of 5

Our family has been visiting the area for many years now. We love the location of this property. Close enough to town and the park to come and go, but far enough to get away from too many people. If you are into fishing, the access does not get any better. Duck Creek is literally right out your back door, and the Madison is just a very short drive away. We caught fish on both.

As far as the Cabin goes, It is not misrepresented in any way. Clean and comfortable. Everything worked as it should, including the hot tub.

We will be back!

Would rate it 4/5

  • 4 of 5

Very nice property but some issues. Would have been nice if one of the bedrooms had twin beds instead of all having single queen beds. Several of the window cranks did not work so could not open them for ventilation. No screen for the sliding door in the living room so could not leave it open for ventilation. No door to the master bathroom so had to close door to entire master bedroom for privacy in the bathroom. No door to the laundry room so was loud in the living room when it was running. There was mold on the hot tub so we did not use it. And there were many small and very large taxidermy animals throughout which was somewhat shocking to our daughter. Would have been helpful if we were aware of this before we entered the house. But overall it was very comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay. Would still recommend it highly.

Beautiful lodge with a hunters feel...

  • 5 of 5

As we drove up to the Otter Lodge we were all impressed by the landscape and the pond/lake that it rests on.

The house is a very open concept and accommodated our large group comfrorably. As we sat on the patio in the mornings we watched wild life roam the fields- it was magical!

Thank you for a great stay.

Wonderful Lodge to rent!!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Otter Lodge. Location was superb providing comfortable accommodations, privacy, and gorgeous vistas. Youngest grandson loved petting the horses in the fenced in range at the foot of the driveway. Very special for him.

The lodge is strategically located just 7 miles from West Yellowstone and the park, and a beautiful ride to Jackson Hole and the Grand Teton Range. Would re-rent this lodge in a heartbeat. Having your own private kids pond on the property plus access to Duck Creek is spectacular. Many fine fishing streams to keep the angler entertained for as long as he/she wants....just short drives from the lodge.

Lodge decor is an education in wildlife in the area. Owner has lots of it hanging on the walls and one huge Elk mounted on a box to

accommodate his rack.

The Acton's and Irvine's made lots of memories not to be forgotten any time soon!!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful abode.

Our daughter who is an artist spent many hours sketching the barn and rock formations and trees in front of the duck pond. This was a special treat for her as time back home limits free time to draw.

*It would be nice to be able to open the 2 crank out windows in the Livingroom to take advantage of the breezes to keep air circulating in the sun drenched afternoon sun

Excellent Home, Excellent Location.

  • 5 of 5

A straight-forward review follows. Please keep all the 'non-glowing' comments in perspective---we still give it 5 stars!

-You just can't beat the isolation from crowds with the convenience to the Parks's West Entrance.

-The fishing in Duck Creek was one of the top three highlights of our trip to Yellowstone-18-22" Rainbows stacked up in the 100 yds below the weir dam provided days of enjoyment and years of memories.

-The indoor decor was it's own incredible attraction.

-Beds were clean and quite comfortable. Waking up every morning with the view from the Master Bedroom made us smile every morning.

-Living room was a great congregating area with the large windows and beautiful views.

-Because of the time of year we rented (Mid-Late May), we would have liked to have obtained more warmth from the fire pit--it only got used once because of the outdoor temperatures at night.

- It was very nice to have a quality gas grill to cook our catch on one night.

-Wifi was a necessity and very much appreciated- Thank you!

-The view of the night sky---WOW! I've never seen an orbiting satellite in the night sky until this vacation and my wife pointed out three of them! Also a memory that will last years.

-Already recommended this property to two colleagues when they plan to come to Yellowstone.

-A short list of misses: the noise from the well pump took two nights to get used to (understandable); no door for the master bathroom; would have been nice to use the indoor fireplace (understandable); no landline phone; and cellular service 1 bar at best.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review! It truly is a one of a kind place! A note to future renters: the "well pump" noise is very unusual and was a precursor to a well failure just after these renters checked out. It's very uncommon for these kinds of failures to occur, and the well and other equipment are fully repaired and functioning as usual now, so there shouldn't be any more pump noise. Please let us know if something seems out of the ordinary during your stay, and thanks for reserving this beautiful home!
