We live in Boulder, CO and are raising 3 children. We enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, camping and all things outdoors.
Barbara Hoyt purchased this house in 1998
We built this home after the birth of our second child as a safe place to enjoy the outdoors, yet have a warm place to return with our small children. We have many happy memories of jumping off the deck into snow, enjoying hot chocolate by the fire, building forts in the woods and mountain biking out our back door. The combination of aspen, pine and spruce on the property was appealing - not knowing how much value the diversity would have when the majority of the pine were consumed by Pine Beetle.
With 3 acres to explore, but only minutes from stores and resorts the property is the perfect place to remove yourself from the hustle of life without feeling isolated. Our home is a place to use and enjoy - its functionality was built with families in mind and comfort is stressed over price tag.
We celebrated Thanksgiving at this cabin. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood on a lot of property in the woods. It felt like we were tucked away from the world which was great. The fireplace was used every evening - the garage was well stocked with wood. The house had plenty of sleeping options - several bunk beds, including one for toddlers, and several full/queen sized beds. It was a quick easy drive down into town for any amenities we needed. There is a toy room in the basement well stocked with toys for all ages. My little boy especially enjoyed the three full boxes of train set accessories. We enjoyed using their sleds to go sled riding outside. Many boxes of puzzles to choose from.
While the kitchen was stocked with various cookware, many things are showing their age. Several nonstick pans had peeling Teflon, for instance. The bottles of hand soap in the bathroom were watered down so we purchased our own. A number of the kitchen chairs were wobbly and appeared to be on the verge of collapsing so we set them aside and used folding chairs when we ate meals. The linens in the home, overall, also show their age - worn, thin, and even tattered in some areas.
We were very pleased with the house and location, and it was very roomy for our family group of 8 adults and 7 children. We didn't even need all the beds!
Although the furnishings were not real nice, and the microwave didn't work, we had a great time. The dining room chairs were somewhat wobbly, and the bedding looked like garage sale items. It certainly didn't spoil our vacation, but it's worth a mention.
We LOVED seeing the deer and small animals, and watched a fox chase a rabbit just behind the house.
We would certainly consider the house again.
The property is in a great location. Close proximity to the YMCA, Granby Lake, and Grand Lake. The cabin was a little dated but very large and suitable for large families with kids of all ages. It was wonderful having a washing machine and dryer available and a full kitchen. The owner was very responsive and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would come back for sure.
Nice quiet location between Granby and Winter Park. Cono was large and can accomodate a large group. Would definately stay there again and would recommend to others.
It was the perfect little getaway for our group. Had a ping pong table which entertained us while we were actually in the house. Good location with spacing between neighboring houses. Easy access to winter park, granby, granby ranch or whatever activity you'd like. It was about 20 minutes to winter park, 20 to the hot springs, 15 to granby ranch. We had a lot of fun at this place. Only downside is that we could not find a grill! Good thing you can cook ribs in the oven! Thanks for having us Barbara!
What a great place for a family retreat. Beautiful views of the mountains and lots of room to play in the snow. Absolutely relaxing and a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Our home is in a dispersed residential area half way between Winter Park Resort Ski Area and Grand Lake, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. Countless summer and winter outdoor activities available, or just relax on our 3 acres of Rocky Mountain solitude.
