About John M Pearch

Pier Cove is a beautiful area along Lake Michigan. I have lived in the area for nearly a decade and my extended family has come to love the area as we spend many holidays here. It was a family decision to purchase this cottage in 2012 to preserve the 10 acres this charming cottage lies upon.

John M Pearch purchased this cabin in 2012

Why John M Pearch chose Southwest

This property and home are located just off Pier Cove Beach and adjacent to the Pier Cove Nature Preserve containing many trails and streams that flow out to Lake Michigan. It is conveniently located half way between South Haven and Holland, but just a few short miles into Saugatuck and Douglas resort towns. Within a few steps you can enjoy the beach, but within a short drive you have all the conveniences of shops, eating establishments, golf, fishing charters, live theater, and art galleries.

What makes this cabin unique

From the cobblestone fireplace in the main room to the claw tub in the bathroom, this home is full of charm and simplicity from a by gone era. A true classic among the Lake Michigan cottages and never open to the public before. If a turn of the century vacation is what you had in mind, look no further. In keeping with its originality in mind, minimal changes have been made, but essentials have been well thought out, from new mattresses and bedding to updated appliances for the kitchen. A rain shower has been added for above the claw tub as the only shower is the one outdoor connected to the back of the house! MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY: Five {5}

Guestbook comments from the owner

Perhaps one of the best weeks ever. There was so much to do. Between walks on the beach in the morning, and treks on the trails in the midday, and roasting marshmallows at night, we never had a dull moment.

The small towns were so picturesque. We went window shopping for hours and ate at really wonderful places--the Salt of the Earth was a particular favorite. There were so many cool shops that had local products, as well as, artisan crafts. There is a little something for everyone.

Rustic, Quirky, Lovely Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my sister's bachelorette weekend at Kingsbury Farms and it was the perfect location for the weekend. A quick walk to a lovely beach where you can watch the sun set over the water, a fire pit for bonfires and s'mores, a cozy living room to chat and play games, and a lovely porch room perfect for dining are just a few of the positive features of this cabin! Although the cabin got very chilly at night and it certainly had a "rustic" vibe, I was totally pleased with the kitchen, bathroom, etc. - we even enjoyed a homecooked meal in the kitchen with fresh food from the Saugatuck Farmer's Market. The distance from Saugatuck/Douglas is ideal. It's just a quick 10-minute drive into town (where parking can be tough but there is a shuttle service and we always managed to find something) where there are lots of delicious restaurants, fun shops and boutiques, and it is right on the water! We really enjoyed the seclusion of the cabin and distance from anything other than happy vacation homes. All enjoyed the weekend and would love to return!

Cozy rustic cabin with all the benefits of home

  • 3 of 5

This cottage has everything you need for a weekend away for four. Kitchen is well stocked and bbq provided. Antique bathtub is equipped with shower for modern convenience. Antique lamps, carpets and decor is scattered throughout the cabin. Large table for dining indoors and outdoor table with umbrella also. We watched the deer just steps away in the woods as we ate.

The only feedback I would give would be that I would have had a bath if the rubber mat in the tub looked cleaner and secondly the living room had spiderwebs in the corners and could use a good cleaning. Windows only opened from the outside in living and dining room which was impossible to get to, making the cabin musty smelling.

All said, a fun weekend and a convenient spot a short drive to shopping and beaches

Serenity Site

  • 5 of 5

''Tis a quaint little cottage with an eclectic collection of artwork, antiques and artifacts. Perfectly situated between Saugatuck and South Haven for shopping and gastronomic delight. Or prepare your own fare in the small, well furnished kitchen. Listen to the waves lapping or crashing ashore at the nearby beach. Watch the deer pass by the fire ring outside and enjoy a cup of java on the patio. Really a wonderfully serene place.

Saugatuck visit

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was very convenient for visiting the Saugatuck area. John and Kim Pearch were easy to communicate with and responded promptly to questions. The wifi was useful as our phone service in that area was quite limited. It was comfortable to have a "home" rather than just a hotel room to return to at the end of the day. We found it more convenient to drive to the beach which is down the road. There are numerous U-pick orchards in the area. We found the cabin quite musty and dim.

Owner's Response: We appreciate hearing back from our guests & always take into consideration their feedback & suggestions. We want to keep the cabin in as original state as possible, from when it was first built approximately 120 years ago & added on nearly 90 years ago. We are, however, considering to paint the bedroom ceilings white versus the original paneled wood in order to provide a brighter affect.

Great stay in cozy cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent a week at the cabin and had a great experience. Pier Cove beach is right down the road and we walked to the beach every morning. Excellent clean beach and not too crowded. The cabin has a great sun room that we spent a lot of time drinking coffee and playing cards in. Overall the cabin was rustic, yet clean and tidy, cozy, and perfect for a family getaway to enjoy each other and nature. We would definitely stay again.
