About the property

3.5 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, Sleeps 7

This private and elegant 3BR/3BA house is a masterfully crafted one-of-a-kind home that boasts exquisite custom design and detail throughout both the exterior and the interior.

Perched cliffside on 10 acres above Pila'a Beach on Kauai's North Shore, this property offers numerous spots to take in the sprawling views of the crystal blue Pacific to the east and verdant mountains to the west. As well, a ten minute nature walk with incline on the way back leads to a remote and idyllic beach below.

While all three bedrooms have king size beds and ocean views, the rest of the interior was planned with luxurious precision, with rich hardwood floors, abundant deck space, a grand entertainment room with home theater and state of the art sound system and unique features such as a dining gazebo, and Jacuzzi. One of the master suites is a separate unit with king bed, 1/2 bath and outdoor private hold/cold shower, not connected to the main house but accessed via a walkway several steps away.

Other Highlights Of Kai Halulu Include: Fireplace, BBQ, Central Lined Tiki Torches, DSL High-Speed Internet, Full Kitchen, Washer/Dryer, Large Flat screen TV, Built In Wet Bar.

2nd time to stay here. Stunning views; beautiful home. House hot in day but cool at night. Great BBQ gazebo. Could use some comfortable outdoor seating & an umbrella would be nice. Beautiful indoor dining table & benches..but not comfortable. Chairs with backs needed. We loved whale watching all day from the patio. Spectacular landscaped property. Peaceful & private.

Every bit as beautiful as the photos, and kid-friendly too

  • 5 of 5

This house was an amazing place to stay with two toddlers (ages 2.5 and 3). The kids absolutely loved running up and down the garden pathways, which are less dangerous, and as stunning, than they looked in the photos. There are a couple drop-offs, and a couple beds of thorny plants, but they weren't particularly inviting hazards. It was easy for the supervising adult to keep the kids away.

The access trail to Pila'a Beach turned out to be too rough to take the the kids, so we only went there once. For toddlers, anyway, Pila'a was not as nice as some of the other close beaches. Kalihiwai Beach -- with its flowing river -- was our favorite. The garage was well-stocked with beach toys and chairs.

The kitchen had all the equipment we needed, and some basic ingredients too. The dining gazebo turned out not to be practical for most meals; it's just too much work to haul everything up and down, if you're cooking in the kitchen. But, the dining table in the house is just as large as the one in the gazebo. Unless you're grilling, you'll probably decide to eat upstairs. Down the street, there are several honor-system produce stands from neighboring small farms: in February, we got tangelos, avocados, eggs, fresh flowers, coconuts, bananas, and other citrus.

There are basically two master bedrooms in the main house, each with an attached (and totally dope) bathroom, and one full bedroom in the upper guesthouse, which has an indoor toilet/sink but the shower is outdoor (though private). The extra 'half bedroom' is attached to one of the masters in the main house -- it has one door to the outside, and its other door leads to the other bedroom. So, this half-BR is the least convenient sleeping room for an adult, since you either need to go through another bedroom, or outside, to access a bathroom. But it might work for a kid, or an unfussy uncle.

Both full bathrooms in the main house were drop dead gorgeous, with an extremely high level of finish and luxury materials throughout. The shower/tub on the ocean side of the house is particularly amazing, with a 270-degree view through one-way privacy glass. The shower base there is a custom tile tub, and our little kids loved splashing in it at bath time.

Only caveat: this house might not be a good choice for folks with limited mobility. There are lots of stairs from the parking area / guesthouse to the main house; making (for example) loading/unloading groceries a fair chore. But otherwise, you will love this house.

Views were breath taking from every room and square inch of this over the top Maticulously maintained house and manicured 10 Acres ESTATE. The commanding views of the ocean unsurpassed. The location on the island PERFECT. The octagonal eating gazebo amazing and so well appointed with refrigerator, ice maker and Wolfe appliances. The only thing that was missing was a Hawaii life representative to go through the house with us to explain the intricate stereo system, the outside gas torches, and ins and outs of the house. A ++ on the property.

Reviewer Comments:

We were looking for a quiet retreat and found this beautiful property. It is exceptionally quiet (except for the roosters!) and well decorated. My biggest cons are that I wish there was some comfortable outdoor furniture to enjoy the surroundings. Inside the house It would have been nice to have some comfortable chairs by the windows. The air flow in the house is definitely an issue on hot days. We used the 2 floor fans in the house to assist but I think in the summer this would be more difficult to manage. The property person was not responding which made me nervous but as soon as I sent an email, I got a call. We did enjoy the property very much.
