Overview

About the property

Cottage sleeps 2 upstairs in queen bed. Full kitchen, plus art studio. Dogs OK.

Awaken to chirping birds and create your dreams at the two story Olympic Cottage. This is a charming, lovely, snug, non-smoking cottage in a true Port Townsend neighborhood among blossoming arbors and winding roads. Neighborhood nooks are a Port Townsend treasure; you are hidden on a tiny, quiet street past Uptown before Fort Worden.

Enter under an arbor at the wooden gate, walk down the brick pathway.

Choose to sleep in the queen poster bed or relax on the loveseat hide-a-bed in the upstairs bedroom. The Art Studio next door is included with a luxury futon couch, writing desk and sink.

Step out for a short nature hike to Fort Worden, stroll nearby beaches, or shop in Uptown about a half hour away via trails alongside Farmer John's Fields. Cherry Street points you directly to Uptown. You can meander through green and hidden forested trails started by deer who still roam the neighborhood, trails offering solitude for adventurous explorers, connecting the bike pathway, beach, and State Park.

At the end of your adventure, return to relax on the comfortable couch convenient to the compact full kitchen.

Climb the spiral stairs, gaze at the lush greenery through the upstairs window, write at a Colonial desk in the Master Bedroom.

Ecologically-sound all wood construction, allergen free materials, fluffy towels, cotton quilts and cozy comforters welcome and comfort you.

Broadband WiFi and Apple TV offer excellent connectivity sufficient for business communications.

Everything you need is artistically delightful and cozy~ teak hard wood floors, maple cupboards, Colonial banisters, antique oak table, claw foot tub, cherry doors. The new bed is Eco wool and cotton over lumbar enhanced coil springs for exceptional support and comfort with a wool luxury topper. The kitchen is well appointed with everything in utensils, appliances and cutlery. Enchanting Maritime and classic artwork and antique maps grace the walls. The feeling and experience is unique and artistic because this special getaway was envisioned, designed and created by artists.

You may find your way downtown via San Juan Avenue, and the bus stop is on the corner of Cedar Street. Walk to North Beach to watch herons search for fish at Chinese Gardens, entering the Fair Grounds 5 blocks away. One block away is famous Froggy Bottoms Marsh. Find hidden resting logs for you to sit, gaze and escape, hear ducks splashing, and see dragonflies fly, just around the corner. Redwing Blackbirds are a delight all summer long. Yes, you can hear the frogs singing in frog season beside Witch Hazel bushes among birch trees and sedges.

A private neighborhood rental for those who seek calm, the plantings encourage wildlife and you can listen to many birds: Chickadees, Flickers, hummingbirds, and stellar jays.

The yard is fenced and safe for canine companions. Few cars pass on a short street off the main road. Proud pet owners have been scrupulous in maintaining the idyllic surroundings. We look forward to meeting your exceedingly polite dogs of which you may bring as many as you wish. However, the owner is presently traveling to rural clinics in Alaska and the caretaker nearby is the quiet artist type. Our many guests have taken wonderful care of this gem of a location.

This special property is rented to one family per month only. Writers and artists have flourished here as manuscripts were completed and art galleries filled.

We welcome you!

About Elaine Phillips

As I gaze out the window to snowy horizons, I delight in reports from Brittney that all is well in Port Townsend. My clinics call me to fly to 20 rural villages to teach community health practitioners. The cottage is a refuge for my peaceful thoughts, knowing it is well cared for and welcoming travelers from all over to the beautiful Victorian seaport Arts community. I also teach watercolor, acrylics, drawing, calligraphy and silk ribbon embroidery of Alaska Wildflowers wherever I travel. The Cottage and Art studio share our vision of art, peace, and being one step away from as much nature as possible. Enjoy!

Why Elaine Phillips chose Olympic Peninsula & Pacific Coast

The quiet location and gardens make staying here very desirable. The true Port Townsend experience is in the winding neighborhood ambience with parks and pleasant surprises at every trail bend and unique corner.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage is designed to match the style of the 1920's cottage next door but is new, warm, easy to keep clean and modern. Constructed with undyed fiberglass, all wood construction and a cedar lapstrake exterior.

The neighborhood is what makes this a wonderful place, a quiet corner of unique Port Townsend charm.

Small but complete

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for the month of March and we were warm and cozy as we watched spring arrive in this lovely town. The location is good as it is near Fort Worden where one can walk for miles in the woods or on the beach- loved it. Town is a bit longer walk but fun to explore all the streets. The Apple TV did not work and that was a disappointment

but internet is excellent.

I had to move a lot of the clutter out to the 'studio' for some room and think more needs to be removed. Also it would be good if there was some kind of 'welcome' book with maps, info on recycling etc. Host was away so we never met anyone connected to house but all requests answered promptly by email.

If here in summer may need outdoor seating - small is beautiful and this little cottage offers a great deal in this lovely town. We would return for sure!

Enjoyable Cozy warm cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was very warm, clean and cozy so we never had to put thermostat above 60 degrees. Kitchen was fully stocked w every appliance needed to cook and bake. Only thing I would say is there were 2 items that would make it "not Sr. friendly". My hubby and I are in our late seventies and found it difficult to get in and out of tub with no handrail or to balance when showering and washing feet. Other small problem was navigating stairs at night because of no bathroom facility upstairs. Last but not least, we would have liked to meet Elaine. We've always had direct contact with owners of other properties we've stayed at who offered hospitality and current local stuff to check out. Of course not knowing circumstances, we realize this might not have been possible. All in all, we did like the warm cozy cottage and the bed was very comfortable. Hope we left the key correctly because there was no instructions for check out. Also no instructions on when to put out trash and recycling. Tried to leave it as clean as we found it, if not better. Will keep in mind when other family

Members visit. Blessed Christmas to you. Thank you. Ellie Kuzma

Owner's Response: We always enjoy improving our cozy Cottage for even better experiences. Check out and recycling information is in the Rental Agreement, and now it's posted inside the kitchen cupboard and inside the bookcase door along with WiFi password. Thanks for the bath rail idea, we're working on it. We appreciate how thoughtful our guests have been caring for the house. I've been traveling to Alaska villages teaching clinic practitioners and Art. It's wonderful to be in PT and meet guests! Looking forward to meeting your family, Elaine

Very cozy

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay. It was quiet, cozy, and conveniently located. The owner was responsive and quite helpful. My only issue was the mattress in the upstairs bedroom. I would recommend it be replaced since both my wife and I had difficulty sleeping on it.

Owner's Response: We always want our guests to have the best experience in every way. Now that I know a replacement is needed, we will get a new mattress before our next guests arrive. Thank you!

Very cozy cottage and studio/office

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our month-long stay here in this warm, well-built and insulated cottage. The owners were friendly and helpful, promptly answering all our questions. A flat-panel cable TV (also with Apple-TV) in the living area, a glass-top stove, and a larger (but not large) refrigerator have been added since the photos were taken. And a new stacking washer-dryer was installed during our first week The property is centrally-located, close to everything in the charming town of Port Townsend. Neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful, with roaming dear and hiking/biking trails nearby in Fort Worden, Fort Townsend, and throughout the area. Highly recommended.
