About Andrew Paxton

After 30+ years living and working in England, Belgium and Virginia, USA, I have moved home to Scotland. I was born in Perth and was a student in Edinburgh.

I love travelling around the world, walking, skiing and eating out. My two sons live in the USA and I take every opportunity to meet up with them, wherever in the world works.

By sharing our apartments, I want others to fall in love with Scotland and Edinburgh. We aim to provide the best Scottish hospitality Edinburgh can offer, want it to be a home away from home and have everything you need to make your stay very comfortable.

Andrew Paxton purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Andrew Paxton chose Haymarket

We loved the central location in the West End of the city, easy walking distance to everything Edinburgh has to offer and access to the wonderful public transport. The finish of the listed building and apartment is beautiful - completed late 2012.

What makes this apartment unique

We aim to provide the best Scottish Hospitality Edinburgh can offer. We want it to be a home from home (although we know it is much smaller than American standards) with everything you need to make your stay very comfortable. Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fantastic week in Edinburgh at this lovely apartment. Every comfort, fresh clean and modern. Great location for EdFest! Close enough to walk to all major venues, yet quiet at night (bedrooms at back which helps). Thanks Margaret and Karen for making us so welcome and well-informed! Can't wait to return

Light airy and very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

I think we picked the best the apartment clean well furnished with nice airy bedrooms. The kitchen is well-equipped, not that we stayed in and cooked much the weather was so good although did have a takeaway on Saturday.

What more can I say we enjoyed our stay at your apartment and recommend it to anyone and do look forward to booking it again in the near future.

Owner's Response: Being a historical building, the apartment is larger than average and the windows allow a lot of light in. We want the apartment to be clean and comfortable.....so glad we delivered. Recommendations and repeat guests let us know we are doing the right things.

Great Location, Great Suite

  • 5 of 5

Because of the West End Apartment, our 6 day visit to Edinburgh exceeded expectations. In fact, we had previously stayed in Edinburgh- but from this location, we experienced a whole new perspective. The city’s beauty is readily enjoyed and attractions, restaurants, cafes , shops are readily accessible.

The suite itself is spacious, clean and modern. Communicating with Andrew is a pleasure and he warmly invites any queries and is most helpful. We would choose to stay here again- if we return to Edinburgh.

Excellent location and facilities

  • 5 of 5

Within walking distance of central Edinburgh and close to great transport links. Quiet apartment even though on busy road as there are double front windows. Two supermarkets really close, as well as a choice of restaurants and pubs. Facilities modern, clean and comfortable. Only real issue was the disposal of rubbish which basically needed two people unless you wanted to be locked out of the back of the building requiring a trek around the front to let yourself in again.

Owner's Response: Great location, modern, clean and comfortable are what we offer all our guests looking for an Edinburgh city break. The rubbish disposal for the apartment block is through a self-closing and locking door, which does make it tricky (I will check if the block to hold the door has gone missing). I agree that it is non-ideal, but the door is there for the security of the building and residents.

Brief apartment review

  • 1 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in your apartment. The location was excellent, and the apartment was very clean and comfortable. We wished there was an elevator, however.

Overall we would stay there again. Thank you, Andrew!

Owner's Response: On asking the guest about the 1 star rating, I received the following reply: "There must have been a mistake!!!! We had a great time there and really enjoyed your place! Would come again and would recommend it to anyone going to Edinburgh!!! I don't know what happened to the stars ! But I did put 4 not 1. Thank you again for the nice stay in Edinburgh!" Unfortunately they appear to be unable to correct the error.

Truly fabulous location truly fabulous apartment..

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is everything you expect and a little bit more. The owner is a wonderful communicator and very helpful and the most delightful thing is that there is a property manager that meets you at the apartment the day you arrive. The apartment is beautifully maintained and very comfortable. We, a family of three, often said that this would be the perfect home for us to live in. Many of us make noises at different hours of the day and the apartment layout is perfect for this. The living room and kitchen are at one end of the apartment with a closed door. The two very comfortable bedrooms are at the very opposite end of the apartment and are quite quiet. The bathroom in the hallway with the giant soaker tub is truly luxurious. I had a few really nice soaks while there. Another lovely treat was to discover that there is a welcome package in the apartment with coffee, tea, bread, milk etc. Thoughtful owners. ( the apartment we rented in London didn't have oil or salt or pepper… Or anything in the kitchen it was expensive to add just the very basics to their kitchen so this was a nice contrast).

My 11-year-old son would like me to add: that it was really fun to find that the television had YouTube on it. He really loved having his own bedroom in such a comfortable place. He also said our entire 21 day trip would have been greatly improved if instead of staying for four days in this apartment in Edinburgh we had stayed here the entire time.

The location of the apartment was ideal, an easy walk from the train station, a nice walk to the castle, in fact we walked just about everywhere. Even to the town of Leith.

Thank you so much for having us.

Owner's Response: So nice to receive such a thoughtful and nice review. Pleased that the layout worked well for the family and they rated it so highly compared to other places they stayed. Location, quietness, facilities and attention to detail is what we offer all our guests.

The Perfect stay in the Perfect Edinburgh location!

  • 5 of 5

Within walking distance to most all of the Edinburgh must see attractions, this apartment is the absolute perfect location. The two bedrooms and two baths were comfortable and private and situated to keep noise to a minimum. And the kitchen and living area overlook the main street allowing guests to keep abreast of the weather and all the activity and goings on at the doorstep! If you need to venture out of Edinburgh, Haymarket and Waverly train stations are just a short walk from the door. Andrew and Karen could not have been more professional and accommodating with all of our needs! This apartment enabled us to have the most memorable Edinburgh vacation!

Owner's Response: The apartment is in an ideal location for the airport, stations, buses and exploring Edinburgh on foot. Although located on a main road, the bedrooms are at the rear and the front is double glazed. Noise is not a problem and it is easy to have a good nights sleep. We don't just rent an apartment, Karen and I want you to have the best possible time in Edinburgh. We are here to answer any questions and to help you plan your stay.
